11 April 2012 in Zagreb, Croatia
Seminar on LGBTQ rights in the Balkans - Zagreb
From April 11th - 16th, GEF, the Heinrich Boell Foundation and FYEG will organise a seminar with the title "Queering Green Theory/Greening Queer Theory" in Zagreb, Croatia on the issue of LGBTQ rights in the Balkans.

On Thursday, the 12th April, a panel debate will take place with Marije Cornelissen, Member of the European Parliament for the Greens/EFA Group, Mirela Holy, Croatian minister of Environmental and Nature protection and Mima Simic, an activist and representative of the local queer scene.

The rest of the seminar will be dedicated to discussion on LGBTQ issues on the Balkans: how they can be advanced in the region, what are the particular circumstances in the region, and what role can the EU play in these accession or applicant countries?

Terry Reintke, FYEG Co-Spokesperson and one of the organisers of the seminar, commented: "We will explore different forms of discrimination against LGTBQ – present in Western Europe as well as in the Balkans. The freedom of sexual minorities is closely related to the general situation of human rights in a society, that is why we are putting a focus here."

You can follow the discussions on the website specially prepared for the seminar: http://queeringgreens.wordpress.com/
