In 2016, the Austrian Sommerlabor (Summer Lab) was organised for the first time in Kapfenberg, Upper Styria.
The aim of the first edition of the Summer Lab in July 2016 was to tackle questions around the crisis of European democracy and provide an analysis of the future role of the Greens and possibilities of change for the parliamentary democracy in Austria and Europe. It evolved around the question how progressive forces could contribute in a stronger way to shape the future. Therefore, the Summer University featured discussions on how to make political participation more effective, how political parties should be re-structured and what form of state would be desirable. The key question was: How can we realise grassroots democracy?
In this context, the Green European Foundation hosted one of the four modules, entitled “Progressive Populism!”. A summary of the session can be found here.
