Partner organisation to formally launch in Ireland
GEF Co-President Pierre Jonckheer will attend the formal launch of the Green Foundation Ireland, which will take place in Dublin on May 4th. The GFI plans projects in a number of areas in 2012, some of which will involve close cooperation with GEF.

The GFI launches at a crucial time for Ireland. Its 'Celtic Tiger' economic model has spectacularly imploded, and the resulting financial bailout has transformed Ireland's relationship with the EU. In this context, there is much scope for alternative economic and political thinking, which will be the objective of this foundation.

The GFI is being founded by, among others, a number of Irish Green Party activists. Its current Chairperson is former Green MEP Nuala Ahern. However, the foundation will remain independent of the Party.

The GFI's Tommy Simpson is a member of the GEF General Assembly, and cooperation between GFI and GEF is envisaged. In particular, the GFI will be supporting GEF's Summer University in Carnsore, Ireland this September.

Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague, will speak at the start of the launch to welcome participants and share his thoughts on the current situation in Ireland.
