Structure The General Meeting of the Partners elects the Board of Directors.
SizeThe insitute plans to employ one person to provide the secretarial and administrative support required. Several volunteers provide assistance concerning additional work.

Budget/Funding According to the Greek laws the Greek Green Institute is entitled to a 160,000 euro grant per annum. 
Relation to the Green Party The General Meeting of the Partners  consists of 5 members. 3 of them represent the Green Party (Ecologists Greens) and between them control 98% of the votes. The remaining 2% of the votes are held by 2 other persons, namely Michalis Tremopoulos (member of the European Parliament 2009-2012) and Michalis Koulouroudis.

Mission/Main goals

The overarching aim of the Greek Green Institute is to study, analyse and disseminate in all possible ways all aspects of ecological thinking and Political Ecology. Specific targets are as follows:

  • Monitoring, studying, analysing and making recommendations on issues related to the environment, society, the economy, institutions and politics from the Political Ecology perspective;
  • Providing continuing education and training for party officers;
  • Researching and documenting Political Ecology and Green policy issues and raising the wider public’s awareness of them;
  • Supporting Political Ecology and Green policies, solidarity and developmental aid internationally;
  • Organising conferences, seminars, debates, publications, exhibitions, and publishing studies and research relevant to the institute's objects;
  • Establishing, issuing calls for and awarding financial grants for the promotion of studies and research related to the insitute's objects and of dissertations and doctoral theses in the areas of ecological thinking and Political Ecology;
  • Establishing the award of prizes and scholarships to individuals or groups of individuals who have distinguished themselves by virtue of their work in the areas of ecological thinking and Political Ecology;
  • Collecting and protecting the Greek ecological movement’s historical archives

National Green foundations, the Green Group in the European Parliament and the European Green Party are GEF's main stakeholders. National Green foundations are active in engaging citizens in political dialogue in their respective national contexts.
