The Green European Foundation (GEF) is a European level political foundation funded by the European Parliament. It is linked to, but independent of, other European Green actors such as the European Green Party and the Green Group in the European Parliament. Modelled on many successful national Green political foundations, the mission of GEF is to encourage European citizens to participate in European political discussions and to ultimately forge a stronger, more participative European democracy.
GEF works to bridge the gap between Green activism at national level and the decisions that are being made at European level. GEF also operates as a platform, bringing diverse Green actors together to discuss Europe’s shared challenges. As a goal, GEF wants to europeanise Green debates, help create
a common Green vision for Europe and communicate European ideas to the wider public.
As well as working with our European Green partners, GEF also has close cooperation with national foundations, think tanks and research institutes, academics and NGOs.

National Green foundations, the Green Group in the European Parliament and the European Green Party are GEF's main stakeholders. National Green foundations are active in engaging citizens in political dialogue in their respective national contexts.
Our European level stakeholders are partners in creating a European-wide Green debate. GEF aims to be a platform for exchange and co-operation at European level. Highlighting some of our partner foundations' news and events is a first step in enhancing this network and enabling exchange.
