SUMMARY:GEF Talks at Edellä Forum (Helsinki)
DESCRIPTION:What would it mean to approach the green transition not simply as a set of environmental policies\, but as a broader reconstruction of our economies and societies? The Green European Foundation joins the Edellä Forum for a GEF Talks session\, exploring bold visions for a green economy and ecological reconstruction\, while unpacking the tensions\, opportunities and challenges to reimagine prosperity in a drastically changing world. \nAbout the event\nOn 19 September 2026\, the Green European Foundation joins Visio for the Edellä Forum in Helsinki.  \nEdellä is a new forum dedicated to Green political thought\, culture and social philosophy. Its name\, meaning “forward”\, draws on the history of the Finnish Green movement and reflects the forum’s ambition to look beyond day-to-day political debate. It offers a space to return to the roots of Green thinking\, ask fundamental questions and critically reflect on the ideas and strategies needed to transform society.  \nThrough conversations bringing together researchers\, writers\, academics\, activists\, cultural figures and politicians\, the forum will explore questions concerning the economy\, welfare\, equality\, democracy\, nature and the future of Green politics. Edellä seeks to create space for intellectual exchange\, political imagination and an open discussion of the principles underpinning Green action.  \nAs part of the Saturday programme\, the Green European Foundation will contribute a GEF Talk bringing a broader European dimension to the forum’s debates.  \nProgramme\nSaturday 19 September 2026  \n14:00–15:00 | GEF Talks – Reimagining Prosperity: Ecological reconstruction\, Green politics\, and the future of the economy (EN)  \n\nHalliki Kreinin – Interdisciplinary sustainability researcher and lecturer at Tallinn University \n\n\nAtte Harjanne – Finnish Member of Parliament (Vihreä liitto)\n\n\nModeration: Riina Bhatia – PhD Researcher\, Political ecology & political economy\n\nThis GEF Talks session will bring a leading sustainability researcher into conversation with a Finnish Green political representative to explore bold visions for a Green economy and ecological reconstruction\, unpacking their transformative potential and political implications in an era of profound economic\, social\, and environmental change.   \nWhat would it mean to reorganise our economies and societies around ecological limits and human wellbeing? Which institutions\, alliances\, and political constituencies would be needed to drive such transformation? And how can Greens connect ambitious ideas about prosperity\, sustainability and economic transformation with the everyday concerns of citizens?   \nCombining perspectives from research and political practice\, the discussion will explore the key the tensions and opportunities facing the Green movement as it seeks to connect ecological reconstruction with questions of welfare\, equality and economic security. SUMMARY:Natural Allies: Environmental Protection for European Security (Vilnius)
DESCRIPTION:What if nature is not only something to protect\, but also part of what protects us? As Europe confronts geopolitical instability\, climate breakdown\, and growing societal pressures\, this one–day conference explores how healthy ecosystems and resilient communities can strengthen Europe’s security infrastructure. \nAbout the event\nEurope’s security challenges are ever more interconnected. Russia’s war against Ukraine has underlined the urgent need to strengthen defence and civil preparedness\, while climate change\, biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation pose growing risks to critical infrastructure\, public health\, food and water security\, and local communities. At a moment when Europe’s political focus is increasingly centred on military readiness\, this conference asks how we can avoid creating a false choice between defence and resilience – and what it means to recognise environmental protection as part of a broader security agenda.   \nOn Tuesday 6 October 2026\, the Green European Foundation\, in collaboration with the Demokratijos Institutas\, will host a one-day conference in Vilnius to explore what it means to bring nature\, defence and societal preparedness together in response to a rapidly changing security landscape.  \nTaking GEF’s publication New Idealism for a Disrupted Europe  as starting point\, this event will explore how we can broaden our understanding of security beyond military capabilities alone. How can ecological resilience strengthen societal preparedness? What role can healthy ecosystems play in protecting people and infrastructure? SUMMARY:The Greenhouse: Training for Activists Alumni Edition
DESCRIPTION:The Greenhouse: Training for Activists is a unique opportunity to connect\, learn and grow as part of a new generation of green and green-minded Europeans leading change in their communities. In this alumni edition of the training\, the Green European Foundation will bring together 15-20 alumni of previous Greenhouse cohorts in Lithuania for 5 days of advanced political reflection\, debate\, and peer-learning between 7-11 October 2026. \nAbout The Alumni Training\nThe Greenhouse is the Green European Foundation’s activist training initiative dedicated to offering political education on Europe\, capacity building for the green movement at large\, and fostering engagement and participation of young leaders and activists across the continent – to support a strong and vibrant European democracy.  This Alumni Training offers space for Greenhouse alumni to sharpen their ideological grounding\, deepen their understanding of the European Green landscape\, debate strategic questions facing the Green movement\, and build lasting relationships across cohorts and borders. The training will take place 07-11 October in Lithuania (venue tbc).\n\n\n\nWhat you can expect\n\n\nAdvanced political reflection and debate — going deeper into the foundational ideological and strategic questions shaping European Green politics today\, and exploring how they play out across different national contexts.\n\n\nHigh-level political input — interactive sessions and debates with experienced Green politicians\, movement organisers\, and political ecology thinkers.\n\n\nExploring the European Green project — a deep dive into what the European Green project can mean in practice and how Green actors can shape political realities across local\, national\, and European levels.\n\n\nA participant-led learning experience — inspired by the principles of non-formal education\, the Alumni Training will rely on your active contribution. You’ll be invited to reflect on the political questions emerging from your own context before arriving\, helping shape discussions and peer learning throughout the programme.\n\n\nConnecting across cohorts — bringing together alumni from the first two editions of the Greenhouse Training and strenthening relationships across Europe.\n\n\nSmall-scale and personalised approach — focus on responding to needs and providing resources and guidance for you to take the next step in your political journey.\n\n\nWho should apply\nPlease note: If you have not participated in a previous edition of The Greenhouse: Training for Activists\, you are not eligible to apply. The next open edition (with participants selected via an open call) of The Greenhouse: Training for Activists will take place in Spring 2027. \n\nThis call is open to alumni of previous Greenhouse editions.
