SUMMARY:The Challenges of Metropolitan Sustainable Mobility
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nSustainable mobility is a particular priority in metropolitan areas because of its impact on air quality\, on the daily lives of millions of people and economic actors\, and as an instrument of territorial cohesion. Public transport\, cycling and walking are at the heart of a model that guarantees the right to sustainable mobility. \nThe Barcelona metropolitan area\, with its population exceeding 3.5 million inhabitants\, is a paradigmatic case in this debate\, as it is an area that risks being sanctioned by the EU due to its poor air quality. \nWithin this context\, what are the examples of good and bad practices of mobility? What are the challenges that lie ahead? Can we find successful sustainable urban mobility practices in other European cities? \nThese questions and possible answers will be the subject of this dynamic debate\, bringing together diverse experts\, academics\, and local government actors. \n  \nProject background\nThis event is part of a series of debates entitled “Europe on the Move: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Mobility in the Iberian Peninsula” organised by the Green European Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung EU with the support of Transición Verde\, Instituto José Tengarrinha\, Fundació Nous Horitzons\, EcoPolítica and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. \nThis series of debates aims to foster debate in Portugal and Spain around the future of mobility\, bringing together relevant stakeholders from civil society\, academia and politics to analyse and explore challenges and opportunities for the future of mobility and the Green Deal in Europe. \n  \nSpeakers\n\nGuille Lopez\, Barcelona City Councillor and Promoter of the Eixample Breathe platform\nCarme Miralles\, Professor of Urban Geography at the UAB\nLaura Campos\, Montcada I Reixac City Councillor\nZeeger Ernsting\, Amsterdam City Councillor\n\n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 14th December\, 6:30pm CET \nLocation: Ateneu Barcelones\, Carrer Canuda\, 6 \nRegistration: Prior registration is required – please register here. \nLanguage:  Catalan with English simultaneous translation \nRecommended reading: European Mobility Atlas \n  \n\nThis event is organized by the Green European Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung EU with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Moving to the Future: Reimagining Urban Mobility (Lisbon)
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nThe present ecological crisis impels us to seek a change in the way we move\, leading to increased efforts towards the decarbonisation of mobility. A mix of new and old solutions are key to change the urban mobility panorama\, namely the electrification and the expansion of public transportation networks\, and the creation of walking or cycling infrastructure to make active mobility attractive and pleasant. This change can also be seen as an opportunity to improve people’s lives by decreasing commuting time\, improving the air quality\, reducing noise\, and promoting an active lifestyle.  \nIn a simple sentence\, there is a need to shift the cities’ focus from cars to people. To achieve this\, a new mindset that prioritises public transportation is needed\, or “the social ideology of the motorcar”\, as the philosopher André Gorz named it back in 1973.  \nSustainable mobility must not only encompass ecological considerations\, but also needs to include an intersectional approach which takes gender and accessibility dimensions into account. As such\, we will also speak about gender and accessibility\, and dive into how to make daily commuting in metropolitan areas more sustainable\, accessible\, and inclusive.  \nProject background\nThis event is part of “Europe on the Move: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Mobility in the Iberian Peninsula” event series\, which aims to nurture the debate in Portugal and Spain around the future of mobility and the Green Deal\, with a particular eye for the challenges and opportunities for sustainable mobility and how they relate to Iberian realities.   \nSpeakers\n\nManuel Banza\, EMEL \nCarla Castelo\, Local Councillor at Oeiras \nRosa Félix\, Instituto Superior Técnico \nPhilipp Cerny\, Chief Executive Editor of the European Mobility Atlas \nMore to be announced \n\nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 12th December\, 6:30pm-8:30pm GMT  \nLocation: Sala do Conselho\, UACS\, Rua Castilho 14\, Lisboa  \nLanguage: The main languages of the event will be Portuguese and English\, with simultaneous interpretation provided EN<>PT.    \nRegistration: N/A  \nOther useful info: A recording will be uploaded to the GEF Youtube channel following the event.  \nRecommended reading: \n\nEuropean Mobility Atlas \nMetals for a Green and Digital Europe – An Agenda for Action \n\n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung EU with the support of Instituto José Tengarrinha and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:New Mobility: Economy and Employment
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nThe decarbonisation of mobility is one of the great challenges of the European Union. The transformation it entails is complex and not without its difficulties\, but it can be an opportunity to reactivate the economy and generate employment. The latter is a particularly relevant aspect in maintaining social stability\, especially at a time when populism and the extreme right are on the rise in Europe. \nIn this event\, we seek to analyse the challenges and opportunities of zero-emission mobility in terms of the economy and employment in Spain\, paying special attention to the bicycle sector from a gender perspective. \nThe event is a roundtable open to all those interested in mobility\, especially members of organisations and platforms working on the issue\, government officials\, politicians\, academia\, and civil society associations. Our aim is to raise awareness of the employment opportunities associated with zero-emission transport and to promote the shift towards more sustainable mobility. \nThe event will be held via zoom platform\, requiring prior registration. \n  \nSpeakers\n\nAlbert Vilallonga\, geographer and mobility technician at ISTAS (Union Institute for Labour\, Environment and Health). Author of the report on Zero-emission mobility.\nIria Vázquez\, equity coordinator at ConBici\, professor of sociology at the University of Vigo and expert in gender studies.\nPhilipp Cerny\,Transport Policy Consultant. SUMMARY:The metallic core of the energy transition (Porto)
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nThe ecological crisis needs urgent action which brings along its own challenges. One of these challenges is the increasing use of certain materials within the context of the energy transition\, resulting from the need to substitute old technologies with new ones. The shift to such materials increases the demand for metals which are particularly necessary for electricity storage and conductivity.  \nHowever\, mining activities have serious impacts on the environment and local populations. Therefore\, there is a tension that arises between the energy transition and the increasing demand for metals. How can we minimize the demand for metals? How should mining activities be regulated and where should they occur? How can the energy transition be fair?  \nIn this debate we will address these questions and look for possible solutions to make the energy transition fair. Join us!   \nProject background\nThis event is part of “Europe on the Move: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Mobility in the Iberian Peninsula” event series\, which aim to nurture the debate in Portugal and Spain around the future of mobility and the Green Deal\, with a particular eye for the challenges and opportunities for sustainable mobility and how they relate to Iberian realities.  \nSpeakers:\n\nAna Rita Antunes\, Coopérnico \nArtur Patuleia\, E3G \nDiego Marín\, European Environmental Bureau  \n\nPracticalities \nDate and Time: 4th December\, 6:30pm-7:45pm GMT  \nLocation: Avenida Fernão de Magalhães 1147\, Porto   \nLanguage:  The main language of the event will be English.    \nOther useful info: In-person event with further publication of the recording online.  \nRecommended readings\nMetals for a Green and Digital Europe- An Agenda for Action (available in multiple languages\, namely Portuguese)  \nEuropean Mobility Atlas   \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung EU with the support of Instituto José Tengarrinha and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Beyond Electrification: Social and Geopolitical Costs of Lithium
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nThe growing demand for electrification does not come without its own costs. Environmental\, social and ethical considerations arise when taking into account the impact on local communities. To obtain the necessary resources\, huge extractivist industries threaten to devastate entire regions. How can we resist them? Furthermore\, electrification also poses some serious global issues. Can we move beyond our outdated electricity and mobility model without compromising social justice and the exploitation of the Global South? \nThis session will bring together voices and expertise from politics and civil society to expose the flaws and limitations of the current model of electrification at local\, national and European levels. The aim of the event is to create a dynamic space for debate where we can explore ways to ensure a more sustainable and socially just electrified future. \n  \nSpeakers\n\nCatalina Abell (moderator)\, EcoPolitica\, expert in political communication and political processes.\nFlorent Marcellesi\, former-MEP. Federal Co-Spokesperson of Verdes Equo.\nAdriana Espinosa\, Amigas de la Tierra (Friends of the Earth Spain). Responsible for the Area of Natural resources and Waste. Author of the next AdT inform on “Materials for the energetic and digital transition”.\nCatarina Scarrott\, Associação Unidos em Defesa de Covas do Barroso (UDCB) movement. Covas de Barroso is being targeted as a ‘sacrifice zone’ for lithium mining\, and the local population\, represented by the UDCB\, is opposed.\nDiego Marin\, Policy Officer for Raw Materials and Resource Justice\, European Environmental Bureau\n\n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 30th November\, 6pm-7:30pm CEST \nLocation: Online \nLanguage: The main languages of the event will be Spanish and English\, with simultaneous interpretation provided EN<>SP. \nRegistration: Prior registration is required – Please register in advance here. \nRecommended reading: \n\nMetals for a Green and Digital Europe- An Agenda for Action\nEuropean Mobility Atlas\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n\nThis debates series is organised by the Green European Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung EU with the support of\, EcoPolítica and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Far from the Center: Mobility in the Ultra-Periphery (Ponta Delgada)
DESCRIPTION:About\nMobility plays a crucial role in shaping the quality of people’s lives by influencing multiple aspects. To name a few examples\, it determines which jobs people can apply to\, how often they can see relatives and friends\, and the amount of free time they have. It can also amplify prejudice and inequality\, namely those regarding gender\, race and others. The way people move has a huge impact on the environment that should always be taken into consideration. \nWith both wonderful but challenging geography\, the Azores is a good place to discuss these problems as there is much work to be done towards sustainable mobility that works for all. Far from mainland Portugal\, travelling to or from Azores is not affordable to everyone’s pockets; there are inequalities between the islands in the archipelago\, with some having much better connections than others. In this debate\, we seek to address the pressing issues connected to mobility in the ultra-periphery with multiple analytical and geographical lenses. We will bring together diverse perspectives to analyse the challenges and opportunities for mobility on island and in ultra-peripheral contexts\, the impacts of tourism on mobility and how mobility is also a gender issue. Besides the Azorean perspective\, we welcome an international panel with insights from Greece\, Croatia and Spain. \n  \nProject background\nThis event is part of “Europe On the Move: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Mobility in the Iberian Peninsula”\, which aims to nurture the debate in Portugal and Spain around the future of mobility and the Green Deal\, with a particular eye for the challenges and opportunities for sustainable mobility and how they relate to Iberian realities. \n  \nSpeakers\no            Filipe Roque (moderator) – Councillor of Ponta Delgada\, Portugal \no            Henar Martín – Consultant of Sustainable Mobility in Canarias\, Spain \no            Nikolina Rajkovic – Institute for Political Ecology\, Croatia \no            Rosa Simas – Universidade dos Açores e Universidade Nova de Lisboa\, Portugal \no            Theocharis Tsoutsos – Technical University of Crete\, Greece \n  \nProgramme\n\nIntroduction and presentation of the speakers\n\nFilipe Roque (moderator) – Councillor of Ponta Delgada\, Portugal \n\nMobility on the island: the Azorean case\n\nNikolina Rajkovic – Institute for Political Ecology\, Croatia \n\nThe impact of tourism on mobility\n\nTheocharis Tsoutsos – Technical University of Crete\, Greece \n\nSustainable mobility in and between islands\n\nRosa Simas – Universidade dos Açores e Universidade Nova de Lisboa\, Portugal \n\nA gender perspective on mobility in Azores and its links with sustainability\n\nHenar Martín – Consultant of Sustainable Mobility in Canarias\, Spain \n\nMobility in the ultra-periphery\, the example of Canarias and connection with sustainable mobility\nModerated discussion followed by Q&A\n\n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 25th November\, 15:30pm-17:30pm GMT-1 \nLocation: Anfiteatro VIII\, Universidade dos Açores and Online (streamed on GEF Youtube). \nLanguage:  The main languages of the event will be Portuguese and English\, with simultaneous interpretation provided EN<>PT. \nRegistration: This is public event; no prior registration is required. \nSocial media event page: Longe do Centro: Mobilidade na Ultraperiferia | Facebook \nRecommended reading: European Mobility Atlas \n  \n  \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung EU with the support of Instituto José Tengarrinha and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation

SUMMARY:Europe On the Move: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Mobility in the Iberian Peninsula
DESCRIPTION:About\nIn the face of multiple crises – climate and energy\, geopolitical\, cost-of-living – the challenges and opportunities for sustainable mobility are complex and evolving. What implications do these challenges hold for the specific contexts of Portugal and Spain\, within the wider context of the European Green Deal? And how can we safeguard a green and socially just mobility transition? \nBy putting a spotlight on these challenges while fostering a trans-European exchange on best practices\, this event series seeks to nurture the debate in Portugal and Spain around the future of mobility. It seeks to bring together relevant stakeholders from civil society\, academia\, and politics to discuss and explore key questions\, tensions\, and opportunities for the future of mobility and the Green Deal in Europe. \n  \nEvents\nOur debates series will unfold in various locations across Portugal and Spain\, hybrid\, and online formats. \n\n25 November: Far from the Center: Mobility in the Ultra-Periphery (Ponta Delgada\, Azores)\n30 November: Beyond electrification: social and geopolitical costs of lithium (Online)\n4 December: The Metallic Core of the Energy Transition (Porto)\n11 December: New Mobility: Employment and Economy (Online)\n12 December: Moving to the Future: Reimagining Urban Mobility (Lisbon)\n14 December: The Challenges of Metropolitan and Sustainable Mobility (Barcelona)\n\n  \nReading material\nThe project is based on the Heinrich Böll Stiftung European Mobility Atlas\, corresponding Portuguese and Spanish language versions\, and associated booklet\, Present and Future of Mobility in Spain\, and the GEF Metals for a Green and Digital Europe – An Agenda for Action\, and corresponding Portuguese and Spanish language versions. \n  \n\nThis debates series is organised by the Green European Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung EU with the support of Instituto José Tengarrinha\, Transición Verde\, Fundació Nous Horitzons\, EcoPolítica and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Anticipating the Climate Collapse (Barcelona)
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nThe future we predicted is unfolding before us. Devastating climate changes have resulted from pushing the planet to unprecedented limits. We must continue to fight to reverse the effects we have\, unfortunately\, already provoked. But in the meantime\, we are living with climate changes that are here to stay. What can we do about it? How can we fight increasingly hot summers in our cities? How can we ensure the protection of the natural environment\, so that deforestation and mistreatment do not continue? How can we live comfortably without damaging natural and energy resources? What can we do to ensure that our children live in a less polluted environment? How can we help young people who suffer from climate anxiety? How can we continue fighting and prevent ourselves from succumbing to inaction and helplessness? \nContext\nGEF’s Green Red Dialogues\, organised with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons\, aim to tackle pressing issues of our time and the challenges Europe faces with an explicit social and green lens. From COVID-19 to the war in Ukraine\, far right resurgence to feminist struggles – these issues tend to reverberate across multiple countries and domains. Through the dialogues\, we connect the red and the green and highlight Southern European perspectives on crucial topics and developments across the continent.  \nSpeakers\n\nFrancesc Mauri – Weather Forecaster\nJúlia Boada – Member of the Spanish Congress\, former Political Advisor to the European Greens\,\nLlorenç Serrano – Just Transition manager (CCOO Catalonia)\nMercè Conangla– Psychologist\n\nPracticalities\nDate and time: Thursday\, December 15th\, 18:00 – 19:30  \nLocation: Espai Assemblea of CCOO (Via Laietana\, 16 Barcelona) \nLanguage: The main languages of this event will be Catalan and English. \nRegistration: Please register in advance via this link.  \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Fundacio Nous Horitzons and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Mobility Cannot Leave Anyone Behind
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nThe EU is promoting policies and actions aimed at reducing pollution and improving air quality\, especially in the transport sector and in large cities. In fact\, the Court of Justice of the European Union has warned that failure by states to respond could lead to the withdrawal of funding from the EU budget.  \nUrban tolls\, low-emission zones and green taxation on car registrations are just some of the instruments that states\, regions\, and cities implement to make the polluter pays principle effective. But how can we mitigate the collateral effects of these measures on vulnerable groups such as workers dependent on private vehicles and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds? And how can we ensure that the ecological transition is just?  \nTo explore these important questions\, join us for a lively debate bringing together experts\, foundations\, and organisations working on proposals for a just ecological transition.   \nSpeakers\n\nDavid Lois\, Mobility Behaviour\, Professor of Social Psychology\, Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia\nLaura Dieguez\, Secretary for trade union action and just transitions\, Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras \nGeorgina Montesinos\, Secretary of PTP (Promoció de Transport Públic)\nLena Widefjall\, Parliamentary Assistant Greens/EFA\n\nModerator: Marc Rius: President\, Nous Horitzons Foundation  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 30th November\, 6pm-7:30pm CET \nLocation: This event will take place in person at the Headquarters of the Confederación Sindical de Comisiones Obreras in Barcelona and online via Zoom.   \nLanguage:  The main languages of the event will be Catalan and English\, with simultaneous interpretation provided EN<>CAT.   \nRegistration: Please register in advance here! \nInformation in Catalan available here. \n  \n\nThis project is organised by the Green European Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons\, and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:The Climate Crisis and the European Media (Prague)
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nWhat is the role of the media in Europe in communicating the climate crisis? What needs to be changed? And how can this be achieved? These and other questions will guide our panel debate\, which takes place in prostor39 café and community centre\, and features contributions from MEPs\, activists\, and journalists. \nThey touch on a wide range of topics\, from ownership structures and oligarchisation of the media\, to fossil industry disinformation campaigns and the sometimes bizarre consequences of media emphasis on balancing content. Concerns are expressed\, but there is also room for hope and solutions. While the internet environment may be prone to opinion bubbles and misinformation\, it facilitates diversified news sources and can also give rise to social movements and allow for mobilization. For journalists\, informing people of the vital and indisputable science behind climate change is perhaps a way to defend the very need for their profession. \nThe panel debate marks another successful step in cooperation between Deník Referendum and the Green European Journal. \n  \nSpeakers\nThe panel will consist of two MEPs and two journalists. It will be moderated by Zuzana Vlasatá\, reporter and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Denik Referendum\, and Laurent Standaert\, Editor-in-Chief of the Green European Journal. \nThe panel composition is as follows: \n\nBas Eickhout – Dutch MEP for GroenLinks and co-leading candidate for the European Green Party in the last European elections\nMarkéta Gregorová – Czech MEP for Česká pirátská strana (Czech Pirate Party) and member of the European Parliament Committee on International Trade\nAude Massiot – journalist from the international desk of the French daily Libération\nJosef Patočka\, climate reporter for Deník Referendum and co-founder of the grassroots anti-coal initiative Limity jsme my\n\n  \nPracticalities\nThis event is taking place in prostor39 in Prague. The panel and debate are all in English. It is free and open to the public\, with no pre-registration necessary.

SUMMARY:The Leading Role of Cities in Fighting Against Climate Change (Madrid)
DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nThe role of cities is gaining prominence in the fight against climate change. The extreme severity of the environmental crisis would require urgent and courageous decision taking and action by government institutions at national\, European and global levels\, in the short\, medium and long term\, but on the contrary\, the interference of economic powers is making this decision-making extremely slow and with little ambitious goals. \nThe municipalities\, as institutions closer to citizenship\, and citizen movements are getting many cities to take measures that are making them the forefront of the fight against climate change in the face of the paralysis of other institutions. \nAbout the Event\nThis round table discussion will take place as part of the GEF transnational project Cities as Places of Hope in the European Union. \nIt will allow the speakers and guests to listen to and exchange on the different experiences of European cities and analyse the role that citizens can play in fighting a global crisis that threatens us all. \nSpeakers\n\nInés Sabanés\, Councilor for More Madrid at the Madrid City Council\nJúlia López Ventura\, European Regional Director in C40\nRosa Fraga\, Architect. Administrative Coordinator of the Platform for a New Energy Model (Px1NME)\nDirk Holemans\, former Councilor of Ghent (Belgium)\, Director of the Think Tank Oikos\, member of the board of the Green European Foundation.\n\nPracticalities\nThis roundtable discussion is an open event. If you like to attend\, please register your interest by contacting our partner at info@fundacionequo.es. \n\nRound table organized by the Green European Foundation (GEF) with the support of Fundación EQUO and the collaboration of La Casa Encendida.  \n

SUMMARY:Green Salon: A Green Vision on Future Scenarios for European Defence
DESCRIPTION:The project aims at creating a sheltered space for Green-minded politicians and experts to critically explore political issues and build sharp answers to today’s challenges. \nA Green Vision on Future Scenarios for European Defence\nThe first Green Salon – A Green vision on future scenarios for European defence – took place in Brussels on 18 October 2017. It was an invitation-only event that addressed Greens from the European and national level as well as independent experts and thinkers from across Europe to feed-into the debate with their expertise and assist Greens in discussion and fine-tuning their ideas and positions. \nThe first Green Salon addressed the topic of the future of European defence\, which has re-emerged on the European agenda\, raising questions as to its direction\, ambitions and goals that urgently need to be addressed. \nFormat\nThe opening reflections of the two main contributors\, Nicoletta Pirozzi\, Istituto Affari Internationali\, and Sven Biscop\, Egmont Institute\, served as a spring board for the debate. After their input\, an open discussion between all participants under Chatham house rules formed the core of the event and was moderated by Kristine Berzina\, German Marshall Fund of the United States. \nThe two main contributors’ role was to launch the debate by ‘feeding’ the audience with information and provocative food for thought on the current state of play and debates around European defence\, thereby enabling participants to engage into discussion. \nFollowing the event\, two videos were produced\, focusing on: \n\nThe explanation of the Green Salon concept:\n\n \n\nA summary of the debate on the future of European Defence Policy\, featuring 3 speakers (Nicoletta Pirozzi\, Kristine Berzina and MEP Bodil Valero):\n\n \n

SUMMARY:“Europe after Brexit. Will a green transition still be possible?” (Poland)
DESCRIPTION:Theme:\nBrexit will have a huge impact on the UK and EU economies and on virtually every area of policy\, which increases the need for public discussion of that impact and the choices that will have to be made to deal with it. Beyond that\, it calls into question the coherence and effectiveness of the EU as a polity\, and as a vehicle for the Green movement. Greens are committed to the belief that European countries can make the transition to sustainability more quickly as a coordinated polity (the EU) than as individual states or societies but this assumption may need to be re-examined. \nThe event is a part of the ongoing transnational project “The potential impact of Brexit on the prospects for a Green transition in Europe” which attempts to support the much-needed public discussion of Brexit’s impact on individual Member States\, as well as on the EU level\, while exploring what this means for the Green movements’ endeavour in the transition to sustainability. \nThis debate took place during the Green Summer Academy in Puszczykowo\, Poland\, organised with the support of Fundacja Strefa Zieleni.  It featured a discussion amongst prominent politicians and experts listed below. The debate was moderated by Ewa Sufin-Jacquemart (Fundacja Strefa Zielenie) and Bartłomiej Kozek (Editorial Board Green European Journal). \nSpeakers:\n\nVideo introduction by Philippe Lamberts (MEP Greens/EFA);\nDebate with Dr Ray Cunningham (Green House Think Tank\, UK)\, Lucile Schmid (GEF/Fondation de l’Écolgie Politique\, France)\, Marek Kossakowski (Partia Zieloni)\, Kuba Gogolewski (Koalicja Rozwój TAK – odkrywki NIE).\n\nRegistration:\nTo register for the Summer Academy of Fundacja Strefa Zieleni\, please send an email to: Ewa Sufin-Jacquemart at ewa.sufin@strefazieleni.org \n

SUMMARY:What impact will Brexit have on the ecological transition in Europe? (Paris)
DESCRIPTION:On March 29\, 2017\, Theresa May\, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom\, triggered article 50 of the Treaty on the European Union and thereby activated the procedure of withdrawal from the European Union\, which the country had joined in 1973.  Amongst all the controversies around Brexit\, there is also the question on the impact of the UK’s withdrawal on ecological policies in Europe. Climate\, energy\, protection of biodiversity\, agriculture and environmental standards are the range of policy fields concerned and not all domains are affected in the same way. \nHow will ecological policies evolve in an EU without the United Kingdom? Will Brexit change the European civil society that is mobilising on environmental issues? \nThe language of the event was French. Speakers were Viviane Gravey (PhD and Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast) and Claude Turmes (MEP in the Greens/EFA). Debate was facilitated by Benoit Monange\, director of FEP. \n  \nMore Information\nRegistration: Please sign up for the event here \nDate/Time : 27 June 2017\, 18:30-20:00 \nVenue: Maison de l’Europe\,  29 Avenue de Villiers\, 75017 Paris\, France

SUMMARY:(W)E-Democracy - Will Parliament survive the digital era?
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of our ongoing transnational project Reclaim the Commons which this year has a special focus on digital commons under the title (W)E-Democracy. More specifically\, this year we foster  the understanding of the possibilities that emerge in the digital age for citizens to organise themselves in innovative ways and to generate influence and even co-create policy decisions that affect their lives. \nThe 21st century democracy in Europe is in dire straits. Citizens feel disconnected with politics\, and a growing distrust has led to the lowest participation in European elections ever in 2014. According to the latest Eurobarometer\, a staggering 54% of citizens thinks that their voice doesn’t count in the EU. Democracy seems overdue for a profound upgrade. How can we reverse the erosion? \nOur digitising society forms a fertile breeding ground for citizens to get organized in innovative ways\, and gain more power to influence and even co-create policy decisions that affect their lives. Digital initiatives like online knowledge centres and participation platforms are popping up all over Europe. What is the potential of these technologies to transform and rethink democracy? What are the threats? And how can local governments anticipate to this growing tendency? \n  \n#WEdemocracy\n(W)E-Democracy takes a look from different angles at promising (citizen) initiatives who employ digital tools to strengthen democracy. We invited Lina Dencik from Cardiff University to talk about citizen rights in a digitised society. We then discussed two successful online platforms: CitizenLab\, introduced to us by founder Wietse Van Ransbeeck and DemocracyOS France\, presented by its President Caroline Corbal. Next\, Xabier E. Barandiaran and Arnau Monterde from Decidim Barcelona shared their experiences with open democracy on city level. Last but not least\, Imade Annouri\, Green Member of Flemish Parliament\, and Dóra Björt Guðjónsdóttir\, Chair of the Young Pirates in Iceland\, reflected on the possibilities of e-democracy for political parties. \n  \nProgramme:\n13:00h:  Introduction (Dirk Holemans\, Coordinator of Oikos and Coordinator of the GEF transnational project Reclaim the Commons) \n13:20h: Young Europeans fighting surveillance (Lea Caillere) \n13:40h: Citizen rights in a digital era (Lina Dencik) \n14:25h: – Digital participation: CitizenLab (Wietse Van Ransbeeck)  \n– Digital commons: DemocracyOS (Caroline Corbal) \n15:20h:  break \n15:35h:  E-democratic cities (Arnau Monterde and Xabier E. Barandiaran) \n16:05h:  Digital parties – closing panel (Dóra Björt Guðjónsdóttir and Imade Annouri) \n17:00h:  closing drink \nMore information on the key speakers can be found on the Oikos website. \n  \nLocation & Date:\nTHE VENUE OF THE THINKING DAY HAS BEEN CHANGED! \nThe event will take place at L42\, Rue de la Loi 42\, on Friday\, the 26 May\, from 13h onwards. \n  \nRegistration:\nThe event is free of charge. Please register here. \n  \nNot able to attend the event in Brussels?\nThe event will be livestreamed by our partner foundations Fondation de l’Écologie Politique (Paris\, France)\, Fundacja Strefa Zieleni (Warsaw\, Poland) as well as the Cooperation and Development Network Eastern Europe (Belgrade\, Serbia). \n
