SUMMARY:Green Academy: Stay with the Trouble! (Komiža)
DESCRIPTION:About the event:\nThe Green Academy is a discussion and dialogue platform\, established in 2010 as a space for advanced learning in political ecology. The 9th edition of Green Academy is entitled ”Stay with the Trouble\,” and will feature a varied programme of keynotes\, panels\, workshops\, and social activities. As part of the programme\, GEF is hosting a series of Green Talks spotlighting our latest work on the wellbeing economy\, adaptation\, and building a resilient Europe beyond growth. \n\nProject background:\nIf trends continue\, the summer of 2024 is likely to be the hottest yet\, with the daily reality of the climate crisis coming into even sharper focus for ever more citizens. Yet unlike five years ago\, climate and biodiversity do not dominate the political headlines or European voter priorities\, whether due to disillusionment\, disinformation\, or competing concerns like cost-of-living and (in)security. \nMore than ever\, it is important to demonstrate how social and ecological justice go hand in hand\, and to foster the bottom-up democracy to make that happen. Concepts and ideas like post-growth\, the commons\, and citizen assemblies may hold some of the answers\, but need the right narratives and policy grounding to truly pierce the mainstream European debate. GEF has supported this endeavour for a long time\, including as a partner of the 2023 Beyond Growth Conference in the European Parliament and the International Degrowth Conference that took place in Zagreb that same year. \nAs we get ready to enter a new EU cycle\, with a reshuffled parliament and Commission\, it is crucial to keep the momentum going and ensure that wellbeing and a prosperous Europe beyond growth remain on the agenda. The Green Academy provides a constructive yet convivial setting in which to learn\, exchange and expand on this challenge\, in line with GEF’s role as a hub for political education and laboratory for new ideas. \n\nProgramme and Speakers:\nGEF’s Green Talks  are featured in specific slots throughout the programme. August 24th and August 28th are arrival and departure days. \nMonday\, 26/08 (12 – 13:30): Enough – Thriving Democracies for Tomorrow’s Europe \nPanel discussion with Remy Bonny\, Danijela Dolenec\, Dirk Holemans\, and Elze Vermaas (moderated by Alice Hubbard) \nTuesday\, 27/08 (12 – 13:30): A Race Against the Clock? Time and Climate Adaptation \nPanel discussion with Marc Martorell Escofet\, Marie-Monique Franssen\, and Katarina Kusic (moderated by Alessio Giussani) \nTuesday\, 27/08 (17 – 19:00): Knowledge Community on the European Wellbeing Economy \nInteractive workshop with Emma Bergeling and Antoine Oger (moderated by Sien Hasker and Laurent Standaert) \n\nPracticalities:\nDate and Time: 24-28 August \nLocation: Hotel Biševo – Komiža\, Croatia \nLanguage: English   \nThis is an invitation-only event with limited capacity. For more information please contact sien.hasker@gef.eu and/or lana@ipe.hr.    \n\n\nThis event is co-organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of the Institute for Political Ecology and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:Green Day in Poland: EGD for All (Szklarska Poręba)
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nDo we really want to continue on the path of exponential growth and increasing consumerism? If we do\, a major global catastrophe is inevitable. Rapid change is needed at all levels: global\, European\, national\, regional\, and local. While the European Green Deal has provided a much-needed roadmap at the EU level\, its implementation\, particularly the social dimension\, has fallen short of many greens’ hopes and expectations. More worryingly\, the progress made over the past five years is now under threat from growing conservative and far-right voices in the European Parliament and certain national governments. Amid these forces of delay and distraction\, it is crucial to equip European citizens with the tools to continue fighting for a European Green Deal for All. \nPoland “returned to the European Union” thanks to the extraordinary electoral mobilisation of Polish society\, especially women and young people. However\, with this new progressive coalition in power\, it is crucial for progressive stakeholders to strengthen their bonds to ensure a lasting impact on society. Additionally\, they must ensure that the new coalition remains true to the principles for which they were elected. \n\n\n\n\nThis one-day GEF summer school in Poland aims to connect the green movement\, NGOs\, activists\, and other relevant stakeholders. The program will cover topics such as just energy transition\, alternative models like doughnut cities and the wellbeing economy\, and the future of the European Green Deal (EGD). \nSessions will explore the connections between the ecological and social dimensions of the doughnut model\, with a backdrop of the European Union’s landscape following the 2024 elections\, especially concerning the fate of the EGD. Particular attention will be given to exchanging local solutions and best practices to build grassroots support and resilience for eco-social policies\, utilizing European tools and leverage where possible. \nRegarding energy transition\, the focus will be on lignite mining\, which dominates this Polish-Czech-German border region\, seeking cross-border exchanges and ideas. \n\n\n\n\n  \nProject background\nThis project connects to GEF’s strategic and thematic priorities Capacity Building for All\, Go Green East and South\, and Green Deal for All. Additionally\, it reinforces GEF’s specific focus on Poland and maintains the momentum of our work as the European Green Academy moves to Brussels in 2024.  \n  \nSpeakers\nTo be announced  \n  \nProgramme\n10:00 – 11:30 Doughnut morning: building a thriving\, just\, and inclusive Europe within planetary boundaries   \nCONFERENCE HALL (EN/PL): Roundtable on the social doughnut – how to ensure inclusion of women\, youth\, LGBTQ+ residents\, and people with disabilities?    \nPARALLEL ROOM (EN): Workshop on introducing the city-level doughnut as a social pact   \n   \n11:30 – 12:00 Coffee break   \n   \n12:00 – 12:45 Official opening and keynote speeches   \nCONFERENCE HALL (EN/PL)   \n   \n12:45 – 13:45 Plenary debate: Future of the European Green Deal   \nCONFERENCE HALL (EN/PL): Panel discussion on EU 2024: What about the European Green Deal for All?   \n   \n13:45 – 15:00 Lunch break   \n   \n15:00 – 17:30 Energy transition afternoon: transborder exchanges   \n   \n15:00 CONFERENCE HALL (EN/PL): Plenary presentations on transborder approach to energy transition: the future of lignite in the Tri-Earth region   \n16:00 CONFERENCE HALL (EN/PL): Round table discussion on the future of lignite areas of the Tri-Earth transborder region   \n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 29th of June\, 10AM-6PM CEST \nLocation: Szklarska Poręba\, Poland \nLanguage:  English and Polish (simultaneous translation will be provided) \nRegistration and logistics: This summer school is open to everyone. Please register in advance here.  After registration\, you will receive a confirmation email within 5 days. Spots will be allocated on a first come\, first served basis – with a final deadline of Friday\, June 7th. \nParticipation fee: GEF’s Green Day in Poland is free for all registered participants. However\, if you wish to stay in the pre-booked accommodation or participate in the side programme of activities organised by our partners (27\, 28\, and/or 30 June)\, then you will be asked to cover part of the food and accommodation costs. \nYou will be contacted by the organisers after registration to confirm these arrangements. Please do not let this be a barrier\, as we can waive or reduce fees on a case-by-case basis. \nContact: Please email sien.hasker@gef.eu if you have any further questions or concerns. \n  \n\nThis summer school is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Strefa Zieleni and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Deliberative democracy in tackling climate justice? (Požega)
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nDuring this lecture and discussion\, we will try to define some advantages and ambiguities of Deliberative Democracy when confronted with other participatory practices based on self-mobilisation\, as a leverage to discuss about “hybrid” practices and how they must be related to the pre-existing struggles in a territory\, and to the next-steps of decision making. A series of filed-of-contested-actions will emerge\, for opening space to the working groups for imagining solutions that can better relate mini-publics to maxi-publics\, and lay-and-expert knowledge. Leading questions will be formulated about what can we intend as justice (included epistemic justice)\, how can we tackle the asymmetries of information\, and avoiding to consider territories as a neutral ground on which a debate on a specific issues (for example: those related to energy) has to start from scratch. \n  \nProject background\nThe projects aims to explore the different levels and possibilities of citizen participation. Experiences from different countries are presented and discussed\, this summer school event being one oft them. \n  \nSpeakers\nGiovanni Allegretti\, Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the Coimbra University\, researcher on citizen participation in the management of territorial transformations and budgeting. \n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 26th August 2023\, 10am-12am \nLocation: Osnovna skola Emilija Ostojic\, Knjaza Miloša 26\, Požega 31210\, Serbia \nLanguage:  The main languags of the event will be English. \n  \n\nThis EGAT programme is organised by Green European Foundation with the support of Institute of  Center for Green Politics and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Green Political Activists Training (Balatonfenyves)

SUMMARY:Green Academy: Archipelagos in Movement (Komiža)
DESCRIPTION:About the event:\nIn the aftermath of the COVID-pandemic and surrounded with the devastating impacts of the war in Ukraine\, we are moving forward with the second decade of the Green Academy\, an effort to provide permanent discussion and a learning platform for progressive\, green and left social forces in the Balkans\, Europe and internationally. \nWhile new energy and food crises are approaching quickly\, the depth of the climate crisis and huge loss of biodiversity did not disappear. On the contrary\, they are at its peak\, continuing to challenge our maturity to create conditions for the good life of the generations to come. And yet\, achievements and successes\, bigger and smaller\, of green and progressive political platforms in Croatia\, Serbia\, Montenegro and Slovenia demonstrate that the green wave is spreading through Eastern Europe and the Balkans – and that the protagonists that might be carriers of systemic change\, though surrounded by hostile environments and worsening conditions\, are gaining more and more recognition and power. \nOur event is located on the island of Vis\, in the midst of the Adriatic archipelagos\, but in this 8th edition we explicitly focus on symbolic archipelagos of epistemological\, cognitive\, practical and political “islands of change” that exist across geographical but also institutional\, disciplinary and practical territories and imaginaries. Placing our conversations and learnings in time of turbulences and global turmoil\, we aim to create conditions to dive deeper into ideas\, cases or models of transformative practices where more autonomy and/or innovation is being exercised\, with the final goals of ensuring a just\, secure\, democratic and ecologically sustainable future. These emerging archipelagos spread across different division lines of class\, gender\, disciplines\, sectors; as spaces of autonomy\, emancipation and counter power to any oppressive\, extractive\, exclusive regime. It is the movement of these archipelagos that can open the door for paradigmatic shift and systemic change\, which still appears to be very fragile. \nThis year\, we will dive deeper into our imaginary of change and search for the ways of mutual empowerment. We will revisit our roles and reflect upon our strategies; learn from various experiences and dive deeper into ideas that are based on more autonomy\, more self-organisation and internal knowledge-sharing. Before the next wave of expansion\, our archipelagos need time to reflect on achievements and failures which occurred in our collective experience. Our program is inclined to be more open to initiative and self-organisation. Therefore\, besides keynote lectures\, panels and workshops\, we will ensure sufficient time for participants to self-organize around certain topics and propose topics around which they want to initiate discussion (see Call for sessions). \nProgramme:\nConfirmed speakers include:  \n\nDirk Holemans – co-president of the Green European Foundation\, director of Oikos \nDanijela Dolenec – deputy mayor of the city of Zagreb\, Možemo! \nGiorgos Kallis – ecological economist\, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) \n\n\nJagoda Munić – director at Friends of the Earth Europe \nSrećko Horvat – philosopher\, DiEM25 \n\nCheck out the provisional programme via this link.  \nPracticalities:\nDates and Time: 27th to 31st of August 2022. Registration starts at 18:00 on the 27th of August and the program starts at 20:00 with the opening session. During your stay at the Green Academy\, the program will start at 9:30 and end at 22:30 (including 4 hours of lunch\, sun\, and sea break between 13:30 and 17:30). \nCatering and Accommodation:  Participants will have paid accommodation in two-bed rooms\, including breakfast and dinner in Hotel BiSevo\, which is also the primary event venue. \nLocation and Travel: The Island of Vis is easily reached via a ferry line from Split\, Croatia. Check www.jadrolinija.hr for timetables. Once you arrive on Vis\, a bus to Komiza waits for you in front of the port. Check the bus timetable here. \nDue to decreased funding in 2022\, we are able to offer travel costs only to speakers. In cases of international travel\, where more people travel together (car-sharing) or take public transport to reach the Green Academy\, co-financing of travel costs (up to 50%) will be considered. Travel costs within Croatia will not be covered. \nCall for Action:\nRegistration for this event is now closed.   \n  \n\nThe Green Academy is organised by the Green European Foundation and Institute for Political Ecology\, with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Ecotransformation Summer School (Litomyšl)
DESCRIPTION:Context\nThe quick transformation of European energy is one of our biggest challenges today. Russia’s attack on Ukraine\, and thus on democracy and fundamental freedom\, has shown that investment in renewable energy production and storage is crucial not only for tackling the climate crisis and mitigating its effects but also as part of a strategy to increase European security and our energy independence. \nUnfortunately\, the Czech Republic is still lagging behind in this regard. Will the amendment to the Energy Act bring a change that sets rules for community energy production? What can cities and municipalities do today to promote renewables and increase energy self-sufficiency? The ongoing crises highlight the need for significant changes in how we operate as a society\, how we manage limited resources\, care for the natural environment\, and care for each other. What is the role of politicians\, activists and other partners in achieving such change? How can we support each other and spread green ideas? These are the questions we’d like to debate this during this summer school. \nAbout Ecotransformation 2022\nEcotransformation is an environmental policy summer school\, but it’s also a weekend full of interesting seminars\, debates\, presentations and experiential workshops aimed at helping you develop skills to drive green social change. In this third edition\, we will focus on the following areas and topics: \n\nEnergy revolution: how cities and municipalities can support the development of renewable energy sources and contribute to increasing energy security\nCommunity energy opportunities: experience from other European countries and what we can expect in connection with the new energy law organizing across movements: how to achieve lasting change in a sustainable\, inclusive and effective way – communication\, cooperation\, capacity building and finding partners in different parts of society\nSeeking consensus in a divided society: public opinion is influenced by a number of stereotypes and deliberate misinformation\, the debate on issues such as helping refugees is dominated by populists who reduce it to simple slogans\, a splitting society – what we can do about it and how to talk to people who do not share our opinions\n\n  \nWho is this summer school for?\nWe invite anyone passionate about green policy and wanting to take an active part in promoting it. This event can be beneficial for people interested in environmental issues who want to explore how to implement practical sustainable solutions such as activists\, researchers\, students\, scientists\, teachers\, politicians\, journalists and so on. \n\nProgramme\nTHURSDAY 14 JULY \n19:00–21:00 Public Debate: Pacifism and green values in the light of the war in Ukraine\nDagmar Tutschek (Co-president of the Green European Foundation and chair of FREDA\, Austria)\nKateřina Vnoučková (Faculty of Social Science\, Charles University in Prague) \nModerator: Michal Berg \n\nFRIDAY 15 JULY \n9:00–9:45 \nIntroduction & Ice-breakers\nKlára Berg (GEF) \n10:00–11:00 \nCommunity energy – experience from Austria – Michael Sigmund\, Vice Mayor of Pressbaum\, Austria \nModern waste management – example of good practice – Jan Pažin\, Choceň Town Councillor \n11:15–12:45 \nThe energy revolution: reducing our dependence on Russian fossil fuels – Patrícia Čekanová\, Association of Community Energy of the Czech Republic \n14:30–16:00 \nOrganizing the climate movement – Klára Bělíčková\, Klára Suková\, Fridays for Future Czech Republic \nWalking tour of Litomyšl – Citizen participation in the design of urban public space – Daniel Brýdl\, Litomyšl Town Mayor \n16:30–18:00 \nCommunity energy projects: energy self-sufficiency of municipalities – Jiří Krist\, Local Action Group Opavsko \nActive hope – doing activism sustainably (workshop) – Martin Nawrath\, therapist and facilitator \n20:00–21:30 \nDebate: Barriers and opportunities for engaging women in active citizenship\nAnna Kárníková (Friends of the Earth Czech Republic)\nKlára Bělíčková (Fridays for Future Czech Republic)\nEliška Koldová (cooperative SdruŽeny)\nModerator: Marie Sehnalová \n\nSATURDAY 16 JULY \n9:00–10:30 \nGroup Work & networking\nKlára Berg (GEF) \n10:45–12:15 \nBuilding communities – experience from Poland (workshop in English) – Dagmara Kubik\, Rzecz Społeczna \nAgeing in the city\, cities friendly to older people – Marcela Petrová Kafková\, Department of Sociology\, Faculty of Social Studies\, Masaryk University in Brno \n14:30–16:00 \nHow to engage religious communities in environmental issues – Marek Drápal\, Czech Christian Environmental Network (ČKES) \nLight pollution – Hynek Medřický\, the lighting expert \n16:30–18:00 \nKlimavize – the future of the Czech climate movement – Tereza Navarová\, klimavize.cz \nCitizens’ assemblies as a tool for change – Andrea Culková\, filmmaker\, author of the documentary Citizens’ Assemblies \n20:00–21:30 \nCivil society in Ukraine before and during the war (helping activists in occupied Ukraine) – Milan Štefanec\, NESEHNUTÍ \n\nSUNDAY 17 JULY \n9:00 – 12:30 \nOpen space – an opportunity to bring your own topics \n\nPracticalities\nDate: 14. 07- 17. 07. 2022 \nLocation: Castle Hill in Litomyšl \nPrice: The price of the registration fee includes accommodation and meals \n– basic amount of fee 990 CZK\n– reduced fee 650 CZK\n– sponsorship fee (any amount over 990 CZK) \nThe reduced fee is intended for those participants who\, for whatever reason\, cannot afford the basic fee – we do not require any justification. SUMMARY:GEF at the Green Days: On the Way to COP26
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nThe past year has taught us painful but vital lessons about our relation to nature\, the importance of often underfunded public services\, and other topics which the Greens have been highlighting for years. Yet as the green wave continues rolling\, and with pandemic lessons fresh on our mind\, now is precisely the time to refocus attention on key challenges like the climate emergency and to ensure that green-minded activists and politicians are ready to take responsibility at all levels.        \nThe annual Green Days conference is an important moment of learning and exchange for the green movement in Poland and beyond. GEF is hosting several sessions at this event – tackling important topics on the road to COP26. We will address the question of rare-earth metals\, a crucial but challenging aspect of the energy and digital transition. We will also ask ourselves what feminist climate and foreign policy looks like\, heading to Glasgow\, as well as dive into local and regional recovery plans. SUMMARY:Terrestrial Forum: Horizons of Change- Summer School
DESCRIPTION:About the event:\nSociologists define social change as changes in human interactions and relationships that transform cultural and social institutions. Well known examples of such change have resulted from social movements in civil rights\, women’s rights\, and LBGTQ rights\, to name just a few. \nThe desire for change will be the driving force of this Summer School. We will explore together progressive policies\, institutional practices and the fight for a just society within the limits of global sustainability. The National Forum’s purpose is to inspire progressive policy discussions and facilitate a networking space for social actors. This year’s program comprises three modules: \n\nAffordable housing.\nDemocratization of public services and management of public resources.\nA fair energy transition.\n\nContext\nSerbia has been under a conservative and authoritarian government for almost a decade. During this time\, the powers in office have rapidly decomposed all the remaining welfare services and further deteriorated the already fragile democratic institutions. Whether one looks at the political\, economic or social aspects\, the Serbian society cries out for a radical structural change. Although we’ve witnesses a rise in resisting practices that show alternative models of governing\, we need to strengthen our efforts to coordinate the counter-hegemonic voices to achieve better results. \n\nPracticalities:\nThe program will unfold under the current COVID-19 measures. Travel\, accommodation and food costs are covered by the summer school organizer. The official language of the school will be B / C / S\, while some lectures will be held in English. \nDates: 23rd-29th August \nWhere: Sremski Karlovci (Serbia) \n  \n\nThis event is organised by Green European Foundation with the support of MINISTARSTVO PROSTORA and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Climate Feminist Summer School
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nWomen and minorities are more likely to be affected by the impacts of climate change and environmental crises\, but are also key to bringing about change in their communities. Countries with more diversity in decision-making have more ambitious climate policies\, while the empowerment of women is also closely linked to better economic and wellbeing outcomes for all.   \nWe need this diversity and we celebrate it\, but we also know that it flourishes best when it is pursued actively and obstacles are clearly understood. Specific support for systemically underrepresented groups\, including women and non-binary people\, is crucial in order to make a change in traditionally male-dominated spaces.   \nHow are women currently excluded from climate negotiations and decisions? What are the lessons and insights from those leaders who have managed to break through? What are the narratives and structures that keep inequalities in place\, and the “gender-blind” solutions that fail to challenge the status quo? How does the patriarchal exploitation of the planet relate to the lived experiences and activism of women of colour\, indigenous women\, LGBTQ+ women\, and others? And above all\, what can we do to address all of this?   \nThis online summer school will feature a series of interactive sessions to explore the gendered impacts of the climate crisis\, but also provide concrete tools\, inspiration\, and knowledge to equip participants in their own lives and with a special eye on COP26. We will facilitate encounters between activists\, climate scientists\, researchers\, policy makers\, campaigners\, politicians\, and the general public\, in order to move this priority high on the agenda and spark connections across Europe and beyond.  \nContext: \nThis summer school is part of the project “Feminists in the Climate Movement\,” organised by GEF with the support of Visio\, Green Economics Institute\, Oikos\, and Fundacja Strefa Zieleni. With a closed training programme for selected Feminist Climate Ambassadors as well as a series of public events\, the project seeks to build capacity among (potential) climate leaders\, while highlighting the gendered aspects and impacts of the climate crisis to a broader audience.    \nSpeakers: \nConfirmed speakers include:  \n\nProf. Graciela Chichilnisky (professor of economics at Columbia University\, IPCC lead author\, co-founder of Global Thermostat) \nClare Bailey (Leader of Green Party Northern Ireland)\nJean Lambert (European Green Party)\nMana Livardjani (Director of ENOP – European Network of Political Foundations)\nFrances Roberts-Gregory (Northeastern University Future Faculty Fellow)\nPatrizia Heidegger (European Environmental Bureau)\nRahila James (ActionAid Nigeria)\nMarie Pochon (Notre Affaire a Tous)\nEwa Sufin-Jacquemart (director of Strefa Zieleni\, Congress of Women coordinator) \nChelangat Scholar (national chairperson at Green Congress of Kenya) \nOlfa Jelassi (GenderCC) \nDr. Alexandra Harrington (research director at Centre for International Sustainable Development Law) \n\nAnd many more! \nProgramme:  \nThe full programme and speakers can be found here. Please note that sessions are subject to change.  \nPracticalities: \nDate and time: August 20th – 22nd (13:00 – 19:30)    \n\nSessions include plenaries\, networking\, workshops\, social sessions\, and many other formats. There will be plenty of extended breaks\, and participants are welcome to join whenever and for whichever session(s) they want.  \n\nAudience: This summer school will take place in English\, online\, and is open to the general public. We strive for an open but safe space\, making the summer school as interactive and accessible as possible while ensuring the wellbeing of our participants.    \nRegistration: Please register in advance here.  \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of the Green Economics Institute and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:Ecotransformation of Cities Summer School
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nToday\, more than 70% of people in the Czech Republic live in cities. For most of us\, the city has become a major environment. The appearance of urban space is fundamentally reflected in the quality of our lives. But cities also have a significant impact on their surroundings. They contribute significantly to the production of carbon emissions and thus contribute to climate change. Urban sustainability is one of the keys to solving many global problems.  \nThis July\, we will discuss ideas and inspirations on how to build healthier\, greener and more resilient post-pandemic cities. We will explore topics such as sustainable urban mobility\, supporting healthy local food\, introducing principles of the circular economy or climate neutrality at the urban level\, and how these concepts impact the quality of life in cities.  \nPromoting change towards a more sustainable future requires cooperation with many partners. We must communicate our ideas in an inclusive way and invite others to the dialogue. This is why we traditionally include practical workshops in the program\, for example on communicating climate change\, or how to link municipal policy and local activism in a divided society. Like planetary resources\, our powers are not unlimited\, so we will also find time for tips on how to take care of your mental health and not burn out.  \nContext: \nThis is the second edition of the Ecotransformation summer school\, which seeks to empower (local) politicians\, activists\, academics\, and engaged citizens to better understand key green and environmental issues and act for change in their own communities. With a mix of traditional debates and presentations\, but also skill-building workshops and more open and informal networking spaces\, the summer school inspires\, connects\, and activates participants for a lasting impact.  \nSpeakers: \n\nLucie Trlifajová (Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences) \nBarbora Bakošová (Re-Set) \nRichard Wouters (Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks) \n\n\nAnna Kšírová (Doctors for Future) \nOndráš Přibyla (Fakta o klimatu) \nHana Matoušová (City councillor and member of Urban Development Commission\, Prague 8) \nMichal Berg (European Green Party) \n\nAnd many more!  \nProgramme:  \nA weekend full of interesting seminars\, debates\, presentations and experiential workshops awaits us.   \nThursday\, July 22nd  \n19:00 – 21:00 Public debate: Green Recovery of Europe\, with Lucie Trlifajová (Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences) and Barbora Bakošová (Re-Set)  \nFriday\, July 23rd  \n9:00 – 9:45 Icebreaker with Klára Berg (GEF)  \n10:00 – 12:00 Parallel sessions: Air Quality in Cities / How to Talk about the Climate Crisis  \n14:30 – 16:00 Parallel sessions: Modern Waste Management of Cities / Mental Wellness – Forest Mind  \n16:30 – 18:00 Parallel sessions: Re-use Centres / Gender-Sensitive Budgeting and Public Spending  \n20:00 – 22:00 Debate: Cooperation of Progressive Environmental Movements in Politics\, with Michal Šmarda\, Michal Berg and others  \nSaturday\, July 24th  \n9:00 – 10:30 Parallel sessions: Metals for a Green and Digital Europe / Visual Smog in Cities  \n11:00 – 12:30  Parallel sessions: Transport and Sustainable Urban Development / Email Marketing and Copywriting   \n14:30 – 16:00  Parallel sessions: Urban Green Space Management in Times of Climate Change / Guided Arboretum Walk  \n16:30 – 18:00 Parallel sessions: A Charter for the Smart City / Communal Politics and Local Activism in a Time of Social Division  \n20:00 – 22:00 Mental Wellness: Self-Care in Politics and Activism  \nSunday\, July 25th  \n9:00 – 12:30 Open Space – time for participants’ own ideas and contributions  \nPracticalities: \nDate: 22-25 July  \nPlace: Kostelec nad Černými lesy\, Czech Republic  \nPrice: The registration fee includes accommodation and meals.  \n\nBasic fee: CZK 990 \nReduced fee: CZK 650 \nSponsorship fee: over CZK 990 \n\nThe reduced fee is intended for those participants who\, for whatever reason\, cannot afford the basic fee. SUMMARY:Ecotransformation 2020 Summer School (Kostelec nad Černými lesy)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThe transition to a sustainable\, carbon-neutral future is a central theme of current European policy. Tackling the climate crisis – mitigating climate change and adapting to its inevitable effects – is one of the biggest challenges on this path. \nWe know how to do it. But can we convince others of that? Can we reach out to the important public and private partners and convince them that the transition to a sustainable economy is also in their interests? And does green politics go hand in hand with activism? \nIt turns out that we need to change the way we communicate on environmental issues. More and more people are aware of the threat of climate change\, but it is difficult for them to imagine how to deal with it effectively. They need to hear a new story. The story of how we can handle the crisis together. \nWe cordially invite all those who are interested in green policy and want to take an active part in promoting to Ecotransformation 2020\, a weekend full of interesting seminars\, debates\, presentations and experiential workshops grouped around several main topics: \n\nUrban climate crisis and what to do about it: how to transform our cities to be better prepared for climate change and to actively contribute to reducing emissions.\nTransforming the approach to landscape management: how to heal our landscape and increase its resilience to ongoing change.\nChanging ways of communicating the climate crisis and other environmental topics: using the knowledge of ecopsychology and the art of telling the story of positive change.\nTransformation of Czech ecological policy into a successful project – the role of activism\, inspiration from neighbouring countries.\n\n Speakers: \n\nCarmine Rodi – trainer\, facilitator and consultant\, an expert in communication skills\, public speaking and storytelling techniques.\nHelena Truchlá – editor of Aktuálně.cz\nOndráš Přibyla – founder of faktaoklimatu\nPetra Kolínská – Zelený kruh (association of Czech ecological NGOs)\nMartin Ander – Partnership Foundation (Nadace Partnerství)\nZuzana Pavelková – Federation of European Young Greens\n\nAdditional speakers may be announced. \nProgramme: \nThursday\, 23 July \nPublic debate: Million Moments for Climate \nFriday\, 24 July \nClimate change adaptation of cities \n\nThe new building law as one of the tools to solve the climate crisis? SUMMARY:Hackathon on Social Rights at FYEG Summer Camp (Serbia)
DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nSummer Camp & GEF Hackathon \nGreen European Foundation partner Federation of Young European Greens is organising the Summer Camp “Our Social Rights – Our Future!” that will take place from 22 – 28 July 2019 in Serbia. GEF will support the Summer Camp and organise a hackathon that will take place on 25 and 26 July. \nThe summer camp will consist of five full days exploring different tools and platforms Young Greens can use to campaign and advocate for social rights. Participants will leave the summer camp with practical skills to use and share in their local contexts and on European level. \nThe aims of the summer camp are: \n\nTo understand how social rights apply to specific topics – including regional specificities\, a just transition towards a sustainable society\, and gender aspects.\nTo determine which tools to use for a campaign/advocacy depending on the cause and context\, and how to apply these tools with limited resources.\nTo equip participants with the skills needed to carry out hackathons in their local regions.\n\nAbout the Event\nHackathon – an intense\, sprint-like\, goal-oriented\, small teamwork-based activity. Hackathon is a period of 36h when participants can plan\, design and carry out their own mini-projects in small teams. The teams will be composed of young people – participants and guests – with different skills and backgrounds: activists\, young advocates\, lawyers\, and programmers. \nProgramme\nThe programme will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. We strive for an active\, inclusive environment for direct communication and sharing of knowledge. The summer camp will balance the dynamism of the hackathon with interactive discussions and reflections for participants to develop their practical and theoretical knowledge of social rights in an supportive and informal environment. \nParticipants will already be familiar with social rights and issues facing young people through the other activities of the summer camp. \nThe participants will identify their particular interests and choose one problem that they want to find a solution for. Forming teams of three-four\, they will spend the next 40 hours designing an innovative solution to their chosen problem. \nThe session will start with a small teambuilding and sharing expectations excercise\, as well as determining routine and agreeing breaks amongst the teams. \nThe hackathon will be participant-led\, with monitoring from the prep-team who can offer guidance where needed. \nThe goal of the hackathon is to not necessarily have a concrete solution to the challenge posed\, but to have developed ideas in how to approach the issues and work collectively and creatively towards solutions. Partiticipants will hone their practical skills by putting their ideas into reality. \nPracticalities:\nLanguage: The main language of this activity will be English. \n\nSuccessful applicants to the FYEG Summer Camp will be notified by 5 June. Stay tuned for more information on the Summer Camp coming soon.

SUMMARY:Green Summer Academy - Closer to Europe (Ośno Lubuskie)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nThe fifth Green Summer Academy in Poland will take place 20km from the Odra River\, a  natural border between Poland and Germany\, near the two towns on the both sides of the river: Słubice in Poland and Frankfurt / Oder in Germany. \nThe Academy is set against the new political reality following the European Parliament elections\, in which the Greens became the fourth largest force in the Parliament. At the same time\, right-wing and conservative\, authoritarian forces were highly successful in Poland and Hungary. \nIn Poland\, pro-democracy and European opposition are preparing for national parliamentary elections in October. SUMMARY:New Political Course Days (Barcelona)
DESCRIPTION:Context\nThe current times in Europe are characterised by political uncertainty and instability in regard to domestic as well as foreign policies. As it is clear that we are living in times of fundamental change\, citizens all over Europe must be equipped with the tools to take a new political course and they must be empowered to face the challenges ahead. \nMany countries across the EU face similar challenges in various areas that affect citizens’ daily lives: insufficient access to affordable housing\, high unemployment rates and precarious jobs\, sexist violence and the ongoing migration and asylum policies crisis. At the same time\, we can observe a neoliberal drift as well as the rise of nationalist\, undemocratic forces in some EU member states that is counterproductive to find sustainable solutions to those challenges. \nOnly with an extensive participation of citizens\, the radical changes that are needed to face those challenges can be made. \nAbout the event\nThe upcoming New Political Course Days\, organised with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons and in collaboration with a variety of other actors such as Fundació l’Alternativa and Instituto 25M Democracia\, will provide a space for debate with agents of change and to formulate demands towards the political representatives for this era of change in Catalonia\, Spain and Europe. \nProgramme\nFriday\, 14 September \n17:00 REGISTRATION \n17:20 OPENING \n17:30 DISCUSSION WITH ADA COLAU \nAda Colau\, Mayor of Barcelona \n18:15 PANEL DEBATE Multilevel governance\, politics of scale and social transformation \nLucía Martín\, ECP representative in the Congress of Deputies: Housing policies \nPablo Cotarelo\, Engineer and consultant for the energy sector: A new energy economy \nMarta Junqué\, Fearless Cities: From the neighbourhoods to Europe – the relation of local and global \nModeration: Marc Parés\, Professor of Geography at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and head of the  Research Group on Urban Governance\, Commons\, Internet & Social innovation at the Institute for Government and Public Policies \nProgramme\nSaturday\, 15 September \n10:00 PANEL DEBATE Europe\, sovereignty and democracy \nErnest Urtasun\, Member of the European Parliament for the Greens/EFA Group \nFabio de Masi\, Member of the German Parliament of Die Linke \nElly Schlein\, MEP of S&D \nModeration: Lucile Schmid\, Co-President of the Green European Foundation \n11:00 BREAK \n11:15 PANEL DEBATE A new economic\, social and environmental model for Catalonia \nJordi Angusto\, Economist: A new economic model for Catalonia \nSandra Ezquerra\, Professor of sociology at Universitat de Vic Barcelona: A feminist economy \nJosé Antonio Donaire\, Professor of geography at Universitat de Girona: A sustainable economy \n12:45 PANEL DEBATE Start of the new political course: the challenges  ahead for progressive forces in this moment of change \nElisenda Alemany\, Member of the Catalan Parliament for Catalunya En Comú Podem \nIone Belarra\, Representative in the Congress of Deputies for Unidos Podemos \nEnric Juliana\, Deputy Director of La Vanguardia \nGemma Ubasart\, Professor of political science at Universitat de Girona \nModeration: Dolors Comas d’Argemir\, President of Fundació Nous Horitzons \n14:15 CLOSING \n\nFor more info and registration\, send an email to fundacio@noushoritzons.cat \nStay tuned for updates on this website and by signing up for the Facebook event!

SUMMARY:Univerde X Edition (Madrid)
DESCRIPTION:Context\n66% of the world population will live in urban areas by 2050. Currently\, already 73% of Europeans live in urban areas. There is no doubt that the future of humanity will be decided in cities and that they can be catalysts for the transformation we urgently need to face the multiple challenges\, both socially and environmentally\, that we see at the moment. Cities constitute the new political centre\, tackling global problems on a local level: local governments and citizens’ movements are at the forefront of the fight against climate change or aid to refugees\, and new forms of participation and democracy are being experimented with.\n\nAbout the event\n\nAt this Univerde\, which will already be the tenth edition of the successful Spanish summer school\, we’ll reflect on the present and future of cities; about their role for the future of the planet and its inhabitants; about how our cities should be to move towards environmental and social sustainability.\n\nIn this context\, we’ll discuss about climate change\, citizen movements and commons\, gentrification\, water and food supply\, the relationship between the urban and the rural. SUMMARY:Moving Beyond Fragments (Komiža)
DESCRIPTION:Context   \nIn its 6th edition\, the Green Academy aims to identify the convergences and draw on positive experiences of social movements and political actors across Europe. The will is to foster transnational European exchange on ways of moving beyond the fragments\, with a particular focus on Eastern Europe and the European South\, where obstacles to enact progressive politics seem most vivid. The emergence of far-right authoritarianism and the exposure to austerity should challenge us to formulate a sharp and coherent political strategy\, homegrown to the European semi-periphery.   \nSince its establishment in 2010\, the Green Academy was designed as an intensive knowledge-building and discussion program for left\, green and other progressive political forces. So far\, almost 1000 people from civil society\, politics\, academia\, movements and media have participated in its work. The 6th edition of the Green Academy\, grounded in intersectionality and transdisciplinary approach\, encourages in-depth knowledge building\, combining academic modules with political debate and activist exchanges.   \nContinuing its focus on three education modules\, namely degrowth/sustainability\, municipalism/commons and climate change/just transition\, it will aim to break with disciplinary divisions and limitations\, using methodologies such as critical pedagogy and new formats that encourage self-organisation\, cultural expression and learning of practical political skills.   \nAbout the event \nAt the Green Academy GEF will organise a specific workshop under the title ‘’Degrowth & Glocal Sustainability’\, that will offer relevant cutting-edge knowledge to participants (from Doughnut Economics and Eco-Sufficiency to the concept of a Good life for all) through interactive formats of learning.  \nThe workshop will concentrate on different variations between growth\, technology\, work and quality of life\, but also tackling specific aspects of inequality or participation. It will help to identify points of convergences where political and social alliances can be framed and strengthened while at the same time not ignoring the potential conflicts or controversial aspects that have divisive impact\, with the ultimate goal of finding solutions for them. The focus of this workshop will be predominantly to frame the narrative about a deeper understanding of sustainability as an old concept\, through discovering of its importance of future design of future life in and of the European Union.  \n  \nThe workshop ‘Degrowth & Glocal Sustainability‘ is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Institute for Political Ecology and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.
