SUMMARY:Feminist Climate Ambassadors – Future Frequency
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nOur aim is to build bridges across Europe for feminist climate change advocates and activists. This training will equip selected Feminist Climate Ambassadors with the tools needed to get their message through in their own region and media\, to support sustainable and feminist community-level impact across Europe. In addition\, the training provides space for more political level conversation on the intersections of gender and climate change. \nThe theme of the second meeting is future. What would our ideal futures look like? What would it take to get there? How do we stay optimistic and focused? \n\nContext:\nThis training is part of the project Feminists in the Climate Movement\, organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Visio\, the Green Economics Institute\, Strefa Zieleni\, and Oikos. While the training is for selected participants only\, the project also features a webinar series and summer school\, which are open to the general public. \n\nSpeakers:\nMaia Fandi – Facilitator at Educational Centre Visio (Finland) \nNoni Makuyana – co-founder of Decolonising Economics \n\nProgramme: \n12:00-12:10 Welcome \n12:10 – 12:40 Guest Expert: Noni Makuyana on Decolonising Economics \n“It’s not a coincidence that under neoliberal capitalism\, racial inequality exists. Race is a social construct\, and one that was used to further the colonial project\, in pursuit of ever-growing economic wealth and power. It is essential to identify strategies that dismantle the system of white supremacy in the pursuit of a just transition.” \n\nAs our two previous public webinars have revolved around economics\, climate\, and gender\, Noni Makuyana’s and Gubbi Bola’s work on decolonising economics completes the picture we have received\, and offers an essential perspective to our understanding of just transition.\n\n12:40-13:00 Discussion on assignments \n13:00-15:30 Future Frequency workshop \n\nFuture Frequency is a workshop method which combines future-oriented thinking with change-making. The core of the three-step method involves challenging assumptions about the future\, imagining preferred futures and making them a reality. Facilitated by Maia Fandi.\n\n15:30–15:45 Next steps \n\nPracticalities:\nThis event is for selected participants only and will take place online via Zoom and Howspace. Applications for the training programme are now closed. \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Visio and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. The European Parliament is not responsible for the content of this event.

SUMMARY:Urban Steps for Resilient Future (Istanbul)
DESCRIPTION:Context\nThis training for trainers includes several stages aiming at young  and motivated people who are eager to improve Eastern European cities through alternative ways of urbanisation\, as well as in mastering their skills in advocacy and project management. \nThe objective is to empower them to shape and improve their urban communities\, and to ultimately create more sustainable green cities based on the principles of inclusion and democracy. \nFirst step: Online Course “Urban Steps for a Resilient Future \nPrior to their attendance of the training\, the course introduces the training participants to different concepts concerning public spaces and urban commons\, explores various examples of urban activism as well as grassroots and entrepreneurial initiatives\, illustrates urban problems and propose good practices. The course Urban Steps for a Resilient Future shows ways to turn ideas into concrete action and how urban activism can serve as a connection point for collaboration between different stakeholders on a local level in reaching common solutions.   \nSecond step: Face-to-face training \nDuring an intensive one-week face-to-face training\, the participants consolidate the knowledge gained while going through the online course\, they receive insights from external speakers and receive in-depth and hands-on training on a variety of topics. Among those are a session on “City and Economy” by Dirk Holemans (Director of the Flemish Green Think Tank Oikos\, GEF Board member and city councillor in Gent\, Belgium)\, an introduction to useful tools of project management by Vesna Jusup (European Green Party)\, as well as a hands-on training on effective communication by Pinar Ilkiz  (Co-Founder and Communications Director at Pikan Ajans\, an NGO social media consultancy). \nThird step: Fortify \nParticipants of the Training for Trainers will have an opportunity to implement one of four Regional Trainings that they designed and planned themselves. These activities are targeting young people from the regions respectively. Young people will both be able to practice their trainer and project management skills as well as to map decision-makers and existing urban initiatives in their local communities/regions and exchange experiences and practices among themselves. At the end of this phase\, every group from each country will have a completed action plan. \n\nAbout the event\nThe international activity will take place from 24-29 April near Istanbul\, Turkey\, in the framework of this year’s transnational project “Creating Socio-Ecological Societies through Urban Commons Transitions”. Both urban activists with experience and people who are new to this topic but keen to develop an expertise in this field were invited to answer the call for participants. \nThe training is going to enable young people to analyse their cities (think global) as well as equip them with capabilities to conduct local activities on the spot with the goal to improve their communities (act local)\, and will include\, among others\, sessions on “City and Inclusion”\, “City and Environment”\, Manifesto Writing\, and more. \nAll the materials produced during the project: Manifesto\, Regional Action plans\, impressions\, recommendations and other materials will be summed up into a publication that will be translated into four different languages\, so stay tuned for the follow up! \n

SUMMARY:Fundraising Training: Projects on Migration\, Refugees & Asylum
DESCRIPTION:In 2016\, GEF and Greens-EFA collaborated on the ‘Guide to EU Funding on Migration and Asylum’\, a publication available in 16 languages\, which showcases EU funds available to local activists and organisations across Europe. In 2017\, the need was identified to organise a training which allows organisations working on these topics to exchange best practices\, at the same time with reinforcing their fundraising capacities. \nTraining in Athens\nThis training is targeting grassroots organisations all over Europe who are working on topics around migration\, refugees or asylum seekers\, and who oftentimes lack the capacities to obtain the necessary funding for their important work. With this opportunity we want to empower the participating organisations to apply for EU funds\, namely the Asylum\, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF)\, or determine alternative funding possibilities and exchange their experiences and best practices. We will share practical experience on innovative fundraising techniques available to organisations with reduced means\, such as crowdfunding\, experiential fundraising\, etc. \nWe also want to enable the participants to network and shape future project ideas together. Last but not least\, we aim to enable exchange with policy-makers as well as with refugees and asylum seekers themselves. \nVenue\, timing and duration\nThe training will last 3 full days\, starting on Thursday\, 28 September 2017\, in the afternoon and ending on Sunday\, 1 October 2017\, in the afternoon. The training will be organised in Athens\, Greece. \nApplications for participation in this event are closed. For more information\, please contact the Project Coordinator\, Carlotta.Weber@gef.eu.
