SUMMARY:Green-Red Dialogues: For a Green and Social European Recovery Plan
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThe economic impact of COVID-19\, on top of health and social dimensions\, has been particularly challenging for economies such as Spain\, with a dependent and weak industrial fabric\, and heavily dependent on foreign production. \nWe want to explore the European recovery fund as an opportunity to propose a new industrial model\, based on a true Green Deal that offers a powerful alternative to what we have today. A model that places ecology\, sustainability\, and the transition towards clean industries at the very centre of what is to be achieved\, while promoting social and territorial cohesion and encouraging greater cross-European solidarity. \nWe will approach this third dialogue from different perspectives\, learning first-hand what the proposals are from the trade union world from the voice of its top representative\, Javier Pacheco. We will also hear from German Green MEP Henrike Hahn on what is happening at the European level. Finally\, we get a local view from Laura Campos\, Mayor of Montcada i Reixac\, one of the territories where industry is the economic base of the municipality and therefore highly affected by this pandemic. \nWith them\, we will debate and make proposals to tackle a real transformation. \nContext:\nThis event is part of the Green Red Dialogues. The main purpose of this series of talks is to reflect on current issues from a green and social perspective. At a time when we have to face the global challenges as a result of COVID-19\, it is important to reflect on a green way out of the crisis. The current capitalist system has demonstrated that it promotes social inequality and that it attacks the planet\, and therefore\, all the inhabitants of the earth. We must urgently reverse the effects of the climate crisis and promote socially just and environmentally friendly models. We need to ensure that these proposals reach citizens\, and explain that it is compatible with the economy\, progress\, and development. \nThe first dialogue dealt with green responses to the health and climate crisis\, and the second explored Universal Basic Income as a possible solution in addressing our current COVID-19 crisis and others to come. \nSpeakers:\n\nJavier Pacheco – General Secretary of CCOO Catalonia\nHenrike Hahn – MEP Greens/EFA\, Committee on Industry\, Research\, and Energy\nLaura Campos – Mayor of Montcada i Reixac\n\nWelcome by: Susanne Rieger – co-president of the Green European Foundation \nModerator: Marc Rius \nPracticalities:\nDate: December 22nd (17:00 – 18:30 CET) \nThis event will take place in Spanish and English\, with simultaneous translation provided via Zoom. \nYou can register for and join the Zoom call directly via this link.

SUMMARY:Between Extractivism and Decolonization: The European Hunger for Resources
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nIn this event\, we invite everyone to join our conversation about natural resources\, extractivism and deep-sea mining. Our aim is both to inform and discuss with European and international citizens. \nContext:\nOpening up new mines is diametrically opposed to curbing our ecological greed and threatens mankind and the planet. Free trade leads to increased deforestation\, land grabbing and violations of human rights\, such as violence against indigenous communities. Deep-sea mining leads to ecological destruction in those few places on earth that have not yet been plundered by the growing economy. \nIf the EU focuses unilaterally on access to precious resources\, there is a threat that a colonial exploitation logic will continue. The alternative is a real just transition\, one that emphasizes on human rights and the provision of a good life for all within the boundaries of the planet. \n  \nSpeakers:\nWies Willems\, Broederlijk Delen \nAn Lambrechts\, Greenpeace Belgium \nSarah Vanden Eede\, WWF Belgium \nModerator: Dirk Holemans\, Oikos \n  \nProgramme:\nIntroduction by Wies Willems (20 min) \n– An Lambrechts and Sarah Vanden Eede will then dive deeper into deep-sea mining (30 min) \n– Q&A (30 min) \n  \nPracticalities:\nRegister your participation via info@oikos.be \nThis webinar will be held in Dutch. \nCall for Action: More info on our Facebook event and website \n—— \nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Oikos Think Tank and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Just Transition to Degrowth Society
DESCRIPTION:About the Event: \nThis webinar will offer space for debate among representatives of various organisations from the North and South and from both sides of Atlantic. They’ll discuss how just transition in Europe can be shaped through futureproof policies\, for the benefit of decent working conditions and the well being of all\, both in the EU and at global level. Join this webinar to learn more about Just Transition.  \n  \nContext: \nJUST TRANSITION as a transnational project aims to tackle the challenge of transforming from an extractive to a regenerative economy in a just and equitable way to find the necessary support among the population. It seeks to show that the green family\, including GEF in its specific role\, is a leading actor in the development of futureproof politics and policies\, developed in a sensitive way that keeps in mind local specificities.  Project partners are working together in conducting research on the Just Transition and drafting a paper on its different dimensions.   \nIn a world characterised by multi-level governance\, just transition initiatives are needed at the different levels: from companies and sectors\, over cities and regions\, to nations and the European Union. At all these levels\, specific challenges\, groups of stakeholders and power relations make clear that there is not a ‘one size fits all’ model of just transition. This also shows the need to document cases at the different levels\, in different regions.  \nWe are confronted now with both a crisis and employment emergency at the same time\, because millions of jobs are at risk. In order to achieve a carbon neutral Europe we have to be doing much more then we are doing at the moment. Climate policy has to be much more ambitious\, more investment in\, for example \,green and efficient energy is necessary. Just transition is about fair sharing of all the costs and burdens that come with this very ambitious transformation. Outcomes of this transitions should be (green) jobs that follow the pillars of decent work in a society that is carbon neutral and nobody is left behind\, while at the same time taking into consideration solidarity with other parts of the world and the future generations.  \n  \nSpeakers: \nMaruška Mileta\, FoE Croatia  \nOxana Lopatina\, independent researcher\, energy analyst\, Moscow  \nClara Dellaire Fortier\, doctoral candidate\, Lund University  \nMladen Domazet\, Institute for Political Ecology  \n  \nModerated by:  \nVedran Horvat\, Institute for Political Ecology  \n  \nProgramme:  \n17:00 – 17.10 Introduction: Vedran Horvat\, IPE  \n17:10 – 17.25 Maruška Mileta\, programme coordinator\, FoE Croatia  \n17:25 – 17:40 Oxana Lopatina\, energy analyst  \n17:40 – 17.55 Clara Dellaire Fortier\, doctoral candidate\, Lund University  \n17.55 – 18.10 Mladen Domazet\, Institute for Political Ecology \n18:10 – 18.30 Discussion  \n  \nPracticalities: \nWednesday\, 16th December\, 5:00 PM  \nThis is an online event\, please join via zoom link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89384973759  \nEvent will take place in English.  \n  \n——\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Institute for Political Ecology and with the financial support of the European parliament to the Green European Foundation

SUMMARY:In Search of a Green City
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nWhat makes a city “green”? Planning\, Mobility\, Architecture\, Climate and Energy\, Waste\, \nGreen Spaces\, Biodiversity\, Food System … Initiatives and commitments are multiplying\, such as the Pact of Mayors for Energy and Climate\, the Milan Pact\, Circular Cities\, Cities Without Pesticides\, Green Cities Agreement\, Declaration of Glasgow\, among many others that can be voluntarily assumed by cities and municipalities to be more sustainable or ecological … \nDo these commitments reach the public? How do they articulate with Spatial Planning? Are they transparent to the citizen? How do you know that such commitments have an effect? \nIn this webinar\, the Green European Foundation and its partner Quercus will review some of these initiatives and discuss the ways that can safely take us towards greener cities. We will also go into two relatively recent approaches\, that of local food policies and action plans for the biodiversity. \nProgramme\n17:00 Welcome by Paula Lopes da Silva – Project Coordinator at Quercus \n17:30 Raúl Gómez – Director of Fundacíon Transicíon Verde and member of Green European Foundation \n18:00 Cecília Delgado – Architect\, researcher and coordinator of the Food Network Cities Sustainable \n18:30 Mário Carmo – Biologist\, Specialist in Action Plans and Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystems \n19:00 pm Meet and Greet with speakers \nRegistration\nParticipants can register via this link: EM BUSCA DA CIDADE VERDE \nThe event will be in Portuguese and Spanish. \n—— \nThis event is organized by the Green European Foundation with the support of Quercus and with the support of the European Parliament’s financial contribution to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Don’t Just Look in the Mirror\, Look at the System
DESCRIPTION:Context:\nThe Just Transition project has as its aim to inspire and inform citizens about the implications of a just transition to a highly sustainable economy\, which involves more than technical measures. We need a new economic system that cares for people and the planet\, in which all costs and benefits are fairly distributed. How do we sustainably transform our labour market? How do we make sure the transition to renewables is inclusive and equitable? These are some of the questions we try to answer. \nAbout the Event:\nIn the last decades growing affluence has led to increased resource use and pollutant emissions. This puts a specific responsibility on the shoulder of affluent citizens. A global Just Transition is only possible if we say farewell to ecological gluttony. At the same time\, it would wrong to translate this insight in the first place into individual responsibility. Just as you can’t eat healthy in a candy shop\, our economies and cultures incite overconsumption and inhibit sustainable lifestyles. How to get rid of your car when there’s no good public transport\, why would you change your diet when governments promote eating meat? \nWithout denying individual responsibility\, the solution is found in collectives answers\, structural changes of life provisioning systems that enable a good life for all within planetary boundaries. \nSpeakers:\n– Julia Steinberger\, Professor of Societal Challenges of Climate Change at the University of Lausanne. She studies the relationships between the use of resources and performance of societies\, researching how human well-begin can be realized within planetary boundaries. She is a Lead Author of the IPCC report. \n– Jaap Tielbeke\, environmental editor of the Dutch progressive magazine De Groene Amsterdammer. He is also the author of the recent book ‘The Myth of the Green Consumer’ (in Dutch). \nPracticalities:\nRegister your participation by emailing at info@oikos.be \n—- \nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Oikos Think Tank and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:‘Gaming Europe’ Online transnational workshop
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nWith the “Gaming Europe” project looking at video games\, the Green European Foundation aims to engage its audience directly in workshops on the use of video games by European teenagers aged 12 to 14. Based on the results of these workshops\, we aim to assess with experts from both the education sector and the video games world whether video games can be used as a medium to address the topic of Europe in an engaging\, fun\, and non-patronising fashion for this target group and\, if the answer is yes\, develop a game concept. The ultimate\, long-term goal of the project is to transfer this game concept into a game accessible to youth across Europe. \nThis transnational workshop brings together national workshops’ participants with representatives from the video gaming world and non-profit organisations working on education on Europe. Based on the discussions and outcomes of their national sessions in Belgium and Portugal\, it aims to highlight key findings\, striving to harvest common lessons and ideas\, and brainstorm on video game ideas that render the EU more graspable to young Europeans (12 – 14 year olds). \nPracticalities\nThe language of the workshop is English and will be moderated by an external moderator. \nThis is a closed event. \nThe event is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the financial support of the Bosch Alumni Network \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Just Transition: Futureproof policies for work
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThe webinar will offer a space for debate among representatives of various organisations from both North and South on both sides of the Atlantic to discuss how just transition in Europe can be shaped through futureproof policies\, for the benefit of decent working conditions and well being of all\, both in the EU and at global level. Join this webinar to learn more about Just Transition. \nContext:\nJUST TRANSITION as transnational project aims to tackle the challenge of transforming from an extractive to a regenerative economy in a just and equitable way to find the necessary support among the population. It seeks to show that the green family\, including Green European Foundation in its specific role\, is a leading actor in the development of futureproof politics and policies\, developed in a sensitive way that keeps in mind local specificities.  Project partners are working together in conducting research on the Just Transition and currently drafting a paper on its different dimensions. \nIn a world characterized by multi-level governance\, just transition initiatives are needed at different levels: from companies and sectors\, over cities and regions\, to nations and the European Union. At all these levels\, specific challenges\, groups of stakeholders and power relations make clear that there is not a ‘one fits all’ model of just transition. This also shows the need to document cases at different levels\, in different regions. \nThis webinar opens a series of three online events on JUST TRANSITION which will take place in November and December 2020. \nSpeakers:\n\nSean Sweney\, CUNY School of Labour and Urban Studies\nLiam McClelland\, Federation of Young European Greens\nAxelle van Wynsberghe\, DiEM 25\nLyda Fernanda\, Colombian economist\, ex-TNI staff member\n\nModerated by: Vedran Horvat\, Institute for Political Ecology \nProgramme: \n17:00 – 17.10 Introduction: Vedran Horvat\, IPE \n17:10 – 17.25 Sean Sweney\, CUNY School of Labour and Urban Studies \n17:25 – 17:40 Liam McClelland\, Federation of Young European Greens \n17:40 – 17.55 Lyda Fernanda\, Colombian economist\, ex-TNI staff member \n17.55 – 18.10 Axelle van Qynsberghe\, DiEM 25 \n18:10 – 18.30 Discussion \nPracticalities:\nMonday\, 30 November\, 17:00-18:30 \nThis is an online event\, please join via the zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89384973759 \nLanguage: English will be the main language of the event \n—- \nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Institute for Political Ecology and with the financial support of the European parliament to the Green European Foundation

SUMMARY:Just Transition - Let No One Be Left Behind
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThe overflow of natural systems\, the extremely rapid loss of global biodiversity or the impacts of climate change are not only a threat to some ecosystems\, but to the global balance of the planet and\, therefore\, to ourselves as a species. Faced with this challenge\, we cannot dissociate the search for natural balance from issues such as the future of employment or inequality which\, while necessary to try to ensure that the necessary transition is fair\, will require a broad social dialogue\, as is already happening\, for example\, with coal mining basins. \nIn order to approach questions on a just transition\, the Green European Foundation and Green Transition together with La Casa Encendidais bringing you thus webinar featuring Laura Martín Murillo\, director of the Institute for the Just Transition (Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge)\, and Joaquín Nieto\, director of the International Labour Organization in Spain; in which we will be able to learn about the current situation\, the future perspectives and the most urgent issues both nationally and internationally in relation to the just transition. The moderation will be led by political analyst Cristina Monge and we will be welcomed by Dirk Holemans\, Co-President of the Green European Foundation. \nContext:\nThis webinar is part of the Green European Foundation’s Just Transition transnational project. SUMMARY:European Positions on Unconditional Basic Income
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nBarbara Prainsack’s new book on an Unconditional Basic Income “Vom Wert des Menschen” has received a lot of attention in recent weeks. At a time when many people have lost their jobs and the economic outlook is uncertain\, an unconditional basic income (UBI) sounds tempting. The Green European Foundation\, with the support of its Austria partner FREDA\, has invited Barbara Prainsack to discuss her thoughts and basic theses with us. \nIn order to delve even deeper into the topic\, we want to bring further perspectives to the table: Sabine Jungwirth (Federal Spokesperson Green Economy) brings her economic expertise and Barbara Huemer (Green Spokesperson for Women\, Work\, Employment\, Human Resources\, Science\, Research & Development) shares her experiences. \nEuropean perspectives will be provided by Antje Schrupp from Germany\, who has been dealing with the feminist aspects of a UBI for years\, and by Francois Denuit\, researcher and staff member of the European Parliament with a focus on an EU-wide UBI. \nContext:\nAfter gathering comprehensive expertise and setting up transnational networks through a three-year long project on universal basic income\, GEF and its partners continue building on the outputs and successes of this work on the topic. \nThe transnational project ‘Change of Mindset – UBI\, Climate and Social Change’ seeks to spark a stronger civil society dialogue to bring about the change of mindset needed to raise acceptance of universal basic income among the public and to deepen the debate on our conceptions of productivity and work. Together\, we dive \ninto the exploration of UBI as a tool of the urgently needed ecological transition and part of social security in a (post-)pandemic\, climate change world. \nSpeakers:\n\nBarbara Prainsack – author of “Vom Wert des Menschen” (Austria)\nSabine Jungwirth – Federal Spokesperson Green Economy (Austria)\nBarbara Huemer – Green Spokesperson for Women\, Work\, Employment\, Human Resources\, Science\, Research & Development (Austria)\nAntje Schrupp – journalist and political scientist (Germany)\nFrancois Denuit – researcher and staff member at the European Parliament (Belgium)\n\nModeration by Carlotta Weber (Strategy Manager at the Green European Foundation) \nProgramme:\n19:00 – 19:10 Onboarding & Welcome (00:10) \n19:10 – 19:20 Reading/Presentation by Barbara Prainsack (00:10) \n19:20 – 20:10 Panel discussion \n20:10 – 20:20 Input by Francois Denuit \n20:20 – 20:30 Panel discussion \n20:30 – 20:45 Audience Q&A (optional) \nPracticalities:\nThis event will take place primarily in German. \nThe event will be streamed live on YouTube\, please tune in here.

SUMMARY:Exploring Fair and Carbon Free Tourism
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThis international seminar will offer insight into the research conducted by 7 organizations across Europe on the sustainability of tourism and the influences the Corona pandemic had on this sector. This will be an opportunity to share experiences and be inspired by the practices of others. \nThe impacts of tourism-induced economic activities are often underestimated\, and while social impacts are increasingly being considered in some of the tourist hubs of the project partners’ countries\, for instance in Barcelona\, Dubrovnik\, Salzburg\, or Ohrid\, environmental impacts in particular are often not (yet) addressed. \nContext:\nThis event is part of the Green European Foundation’s Fair and Carbon Free Tourism transnational project. This project aims to identify and create conditions for collective action against the detrimental social and environmental impacts of tourism. In many countries\, tourism is a generator of GDP and fully employed in a growth oriented consumerist economy. However\, there is an underestimated environmental and social impact of tourism. \nSpeakers:\n\nMaja Morachanin\, MP and Leader of the Macedonian Green Party (DOM)\nAleksandar Gjorgjievski\, ASSED Sunrise – North Macedonia\nVedran Horvat\, Institute for Political Ecology – Croatia\nSergi Alegre\, Fundacio Nous Horizons\, Barcelona – Spain\nZaklina Zivkovic\, Networked – Serbia\nClaus Mersch\, FREDA – Austria\nAna Petrovska\, ASSED Sunrise – North Macedonia\n\nProgramme: \n11:00 – 11:10      Introduction of the event and participants; opening remarks by Maja Morachanin \n11:10 – 11:25       Vedran Horvat – Project Leader of the GEF “Fair and Carbon Free Tourism” – IPE Croatia \n11:25 – 11:35      Sergi Alegre – Sand and Sun Tourism in Catalonia: An Overview \n11:35 – 11:45      Zaklina Zivkovic – Serbian Tourism Overview \n11:45 – 11:55      Claus Mersch – Austrian Tourism Overview \n11:55 – 12:05     Ana Petrovska – Responsible Tourism in Ohrid \n12:05 – 12:30    Discussion and conclusions \nPracticalities:\nThis online event is open to the general public. SUMMARY:Smart Cities and Citizen Science
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThis international webinar will offer local government representatives\, politicians\, municipal officials\, as well as academic experts and practitioners from Czech and Slovak cities the opportunity to share their experiences and be inspired by the practices of other cities. \nWe will discuss how to strengthen the environmental qualities of cities through citizens’ participation. For example\, through presenting various examples of using citizens as motivated amateur scientists\, equipping them with modern technologies for direct data collection. \nContext:\nThis project is a part of the GEF transnational project “A Charter for the Smart City II”. \nAll over Europe\, so-called ‘smart cities’ are the testing grounds for new technologies that affect how we live\, how we organise our societies and what our ethical foundation is. Given the opportunities that new technologies offer for reducing the ecological footprint of cities and creating new urban commons\, but also the potential threats they pose to civil liberties and social justice\, GEF aims to stimulate the debate on smart cities. \nTo this end\, GEF has developed\, with the support of its partners\, a Charter for the Smart City\, consisting of guiding principles that will make it easier for green European politicians and activists to assess and steer technological innovations in their cities. Throughout 2019\, ideas were solicited digitally and through events across Europe\, including best practices from NGOs\, experts\, and local green politicians\, as well as from GEF partner foundations and other Green European actors. These resulted in the published Charter for the Smart City. \nSpeakers:\n\nRichard Wouters (Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks\, Utrecht) – author of “A Charter for the Smart City” will show how modern technologies often present us with new dilemmas and how to approach them in order to strengthen the fundamental values of a democratic society.\nAlena Bartoňová (Norwegian Institute for Air Research\, Oslo) – Director of Air Quality Research in Oslo\, Norway\, will highlight concrete examples from European cities of how easier access to monitoring technologies increases people’s interest in the cleanliness of the air they breathe and enables research institutions and municipalities to involve the general public in tackling air pollution.\nThomas van Oppens (City Councilor\, Leuven) – the city councilor of the Belgian city of Leuven will present inspiring examples of the use of “citizen science” for independent traffic monitoring. SUMMARY:Citizen Scoring
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nCouncils all over Europe are now using services to apply algorithms to public data in order to segment and “score” citizens and population groups according to their social group or “risk profile”. We will talk about citizen data scoring and what should be taken in consideration when building up a truly smart city. \nThis workshop focuses on the different aspects (social\, environmental\, economic\, democratic) of this topic with a specific lens on Central and Eastern Europe. We hope to empower participants to influence public debate and local decision-making on technological innovations and their implementation in the cities of the region. \nLearnings from this process will be used to create a manifesto on principles of new technologies’ implementation in Eastern European cities. \nContext:\nThis project is a part of the GEF transnational project “A Charter for the Smart City II”. \nAll over Europe\, so-called ‘smart cities’ are the testing grounds for new technologies that affect how we live\, how we organise our societies and what our ethical foundation is. Given the opportunities that new technologies offer for reducing the ecological footprint of cities and creating new urban commons\, as well as the potential threats they pose to civil liberties and social justice\, GEF aims to stimulate the debate on smart cities. To this end\, GEF has developed\, with the support of its partners\, a Charter for the Smart City\, consisting of guiding principles that will make it easier for green European politicians and activists to assess and steer technological innovations in their cities. Throughout 2019\, ideas were solicited digitally and through events across Europe\, including best practices from NGOs\, experts and local green politicians\, as well as from GEF partner foundations and other Green European actors. \nSpeakers: \nMichiel Filippart – Regional councilor for GroenLinks in the Netherlands and an adviser to the GroenLinks group in the Dutch senate. A contributor to the Charter for the Smart City; he will talk about Citizen Scoring and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in it. \nJulian Hauser – PhD student in philosophy of mind and cognitive science at the University of Edinburgh. He researches the self and how it is changed by modern digital technologies\, focusing in particular on the constitution of its boundaries. He will talk about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its ethical aspects. \nPracticalities:\nThis event will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube. \nYou can listen to our podcast now at https://soundcloud.com/user-881417568/smart-cities \nLanguage: The main language of this event will be English. \nAcknowledgements: \nThis project is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of CDNEE and Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Green-Red Dialogues: Minimum Living Income – A Step Towards UBI?
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nCOVID-19 has once again put on the table the need for a change of model\, based on solidarity and equity for all European citizens. If we apply the same instruments that we have used up to now\, we are in danger of leaving many people behind\, creating a socially and economically unequal Europe. What model of Europe do we want? How can we ensure that people can live with dignity? How can we contribute to the creation of a social security system that works for all? How can we make it possible for people to live with dignity from their work without having to accept multiple jobs or over-exploitation? \nThe second Green-Red Dialogue will address the topic of Basic Income. The Green European Foundation has worked with experts on this topic for the past three years\, formulating “European Green Perspectives on Basic Income” together with several partner foundations including Fundacio Nous Horitzons. \nNow is a good time to present the conclusions of that research and put back on the agenda an issue that in the current crisis situation is more relevant than ever. The effects of the coronavirus have left much of the population excluded and the outlook for the coming years is not very encouraging. Current welfare and subsidy models have been shown to fall short both in protecting groups at risk of exclusion and encouraging economic development in Europe. \nAccording to experts in the field\, basic income could: improve the situation of people with a low purchasing power; prevent overexploitation\, job insecurity\, and illegal work; prevent fraud by companies against their employees; allow higher taxes to be levied on high incomes; and enable economic development through empowering groups at risk of exclusion by dignifying them and thus contributing to a fairer and more egalitarian society. \nThese and other questions will be addressed in this second discussion on Basic Income – featuring Pepe Fernández Albertos\, Aina Vidal\, and Philippe Van Parijs. We need to ensure that these proposals reach citizens\, and explain that it is compatible with the economy\, progress and development. \nThe first dialogue dealt with green responses to the health and climate crisis. \nSpeakers:\nPhilippe Van Parijs\, professor of philosophy and key promoter of basic income. \nPepe Fernández Albertos\, doctor in political science from Harvard University and researcher at the Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas. \nAina Vidal\, deputy at the Congress of Deputies of En Comú-Podem. \nModerator: Marc Rius \nPracticalities:\nDate: September 17th (18:00 – 19:15 CEST) \nThis event will take place in Spanish and English\, with simultaneous translation provided via Zoom. \nYou can join the Zoom call directly here. The webinar will also be livestreamed on the YouTube channel of Fundació Nous Horitzons. \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Polish Views on Unconditional Basic Income (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nAfter earlier webinars introducing the general concept of UBI\, the European UBI\, and the achievements of the GEF in promoting this debate\, we discussed UBI pilots in Europe and elsewhere. \nThis time\, in partnership with the Polish Basic Income Network\, we will present UBI and similar concepts that are discussed in Poland and the prospects for implementing them in the country. \nContext:\nThe Green European Foundation has been working and researching the topic of UBI for a few years as part of a transnational project involving many countries. This year\, the project is entitled “CHANGE OF MINDSET. Civil society dialogue around UBI\, social justice and climate impact”. The Polish Green Foundation “Strefa Zieleni” joined the project\, recognising that it was time to start a public debate on this in Poland as well – not only on UBI itself but as part of a broader conversation: what social security system is best adapted to the needs and expectations of Polish society in times of great instability and turmoil? \nOn May 26th\, the webinar “With UBI we would be less afraid of coronavirus” opened a series of four online meetings on this topic\, organised by GEF with the support of Strefa Zieleni. Participants of the first webinar chose the topics of subsequent meetings\, the third of which is an overview of the Polish perspectives on UBI and prospects for implementation. \nSpeakers:\n\nDr hab. Ryszard Szarfenberg – Political scientist\, professor at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw. Leader of the Polish Basic Income Network and active populariser of the concept of Unconditional Basic Income in Poland.\nDr Jacek Warda – Political scientist\, an expert in public management in local governments and author of the first Polish scientific article on the UBI: “Potential consequences of the implementation of a negative tax for the state’s social system” (2008). Member of the Polish Basic Income Network.\nDr Maciej Szlinder – doctor of humanities in the field of philosophy\, sociologist\, economist. Member of the Polish Basic Income Network\, Basic Income Earth Network\, Red Renta Básica. Author of the book “Unconditional basic income. A revolutionary reform of the society of the 21st century” (PWN\, 2018).\n\nModeration and comments by Ewa Sufin-Jacquemart and Wojciech Kłosowski. \nWe regret that the guest speakers of this particular webinar are all men\, as unfortunately\, the Polish Basic Income Network is an entirely male initiative. GEF and Strefa Zieleni are committed to hosting diverse and balanced events and have ensured that the next webinar in this series will be dominated by excellent female speakers. \nProgramme: \nThe webinar will start at 18:00 CEST with a short video produced by the UBI transnational project partners. \nPracticalities:\nThis webinar will take place in Polish for a Polish audience. It is open to anyone\, but please register using this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ecc1VTOBS0WdsayiiuGCag \nWe will use the Zoom video conferencing platform. It is recommended to join the webinar via a PC. You do not need to install additional software. However\, for the best user experience and full participation features\, we recommend installing the Zoom Desktop App\, which is free.

SUMMARY:Between Theory and Practice – Experiments of Basic Income (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nReflections and specific experiments have been ongoing for many years in the search for systemic solutions to provide people with the opportunity to meet basic life needs in times of instability\, exacerbated amid junk contracts\, rapid climate change and structural inequalities. Unconditional basic income is one such form\, tested by certain public authorities\, but also by non-governmental and research organisations\, both in so-called developed countries as well as some countries of the global South. \nThis webinar focuses on the experiences of basic income in several countries – their goals and results\, but also the political context of each case. A more general academic comparative view will complete a political and activist approach. We invited a European university researcher examining UBI experiments\, their political and social context and overtones\, but also a Kenyan Green politician from a so-called developing country where innovative social policies have been pursued both by the authorities and through the experiments of social aid and research organisations. \nContext:\nThe Green European Foundation has been working and conducting research on the topic of UBI for a few years as part of a transnational project involving many countries. This year\, the project is entitled “CHANGE OF MINDSET. Civil society dialogue around UBI\, social justice and climate impact”. \nOn May 26th\, the webinar “With UBI we would be less afraid of coronavirus” opened a series of four meetings on this topic\, organised by GEF and with the support of Strefa Zieleni. Participants of the first webinar chose the topics of subsequent meetings\, the first of which is an exploration of unconditional basic income experiments and derived social policy solutions in various countries. \nSpeakers:\n\nJurgen De Wispelaere – policy fellow at the Institute for Policy Research (University of Bath) and a visiting scholar at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.\nMartin Ogindo – Party leader of the Green Congress of Kenya.\nModeration and comments by Ewa Sufin-Jacquemart and Wojciech Kłosowski.\n\nPracticalities:\nThis is an open event accessible to an international audience. English-Polish translation will be provided. \nWe will use the Zoom video conferencing platform. It is recommended to join the webinar via a PC. You don’t need to install additional software. However\, for the best user experience and full participation features\, we recommend to install the Zoom Desktop App\, which is free. \nPlease register and join the webinar via this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_rM7YcboBRNmUC3brggoaAg
