SUMMARY:Green-Red Dialogues - From Silence to Action: Europe’s Duty in the Face of Genocide
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Green Red Dialogue confronting Europe’s silence in the face of the ongoing genocide in Palestine\, and exploring what accountability\, justice\, and solidarity should mean today.\nAbout the event\nEurope’s position on the ongoing Palestinian genocide has become one of the most urgent and divisive political issues of our time. It exposes profound contradictions within European diplomacy\, from the continued provision of aid to Israel by certain EU member states\, to the muted response of institutions faced with mounting civilian deaths and international law violations repeated countlessly. \nThis dialogue will explore the political\, civic\, and moral implications of Europe’s stance\, both within and beyond the EU\, and reflect on its responsibilities and prospects for peace. The discussion will also address the role of boycott movements and public mobilisation\, examining how citizens’ voices opposing the genocide have been heard (or silenced) across Europe\, with a specific zoom into Spain and how this EU country decided to take a firm stance as compared to other member states. \nTargeted at those interested in foreign policy\, human rights\, and European democracy\, this event aims to foster a critical and forward-looking conversation on the EU’s role in global justice and peacebuilding. \nThe webinar format will allow participants from across Europe to join and engage in this one-hour dialogue\, which seeks to identify pathways toward a more coherent\, just\, and principled European foreign policy. \nProject background\nGEF’s Green Red Dialogues\, organised with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons\, provide a platform to address the defining social and ecological challenges of our time through a Southern European perspective. From the genocide in Palestine to the war in Ukraine\, the far-right resurgence to feminist struggles\, the Dialogues bring together diverse voices to connect the red and the green\, bridging social and environmental justice concerns in Europe. \nThis dialogue continues that mission by focusing on Europe’s role and responsibility in the context of the Palestinian genocide\, and by encouraging open dialogue that challenges silence and inaction. \nSpeakers\n\nGabriel Garroum – Doctor in War Studies\nAina Vidal – Member of the Spanish Parliament\, Sumar\nGwendoline Delbos-Corfield – Co-president\, Green European Foundation\n\nModeration: Marc Rius (Fundacio Nous Horitzons)\nPracticalities\nDate: 24 November 2025Time: 18h00 – 19h00Format: Online (webinar)\nLanguage: The webinar will be held in Catalan and English\, with simultaneous translation provided.\nRegistration: link here \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation (GEF) with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Post-Growth Geopolitics: Europe at a Crossroads
DESCRIPTION:  \nAbout the event\nOur current socio-economic model is leading us to a dead end\, that’s widely recognised.  However\, concerns abound that a Europe prioritising the abandonment of GDP growth as a policy goal may face potential disadvantages on the complex geopolitical chessboard. \nFor the past year\, GEF – with the support of its partners – has been exploring the possible geopolitical consequences of a post-growth Europe. This launch event will highlight the importance of this topic\, delve into some of our main findings and recommendations\, and spotlight the Spanish translation of the resulting report. With our panel of experts\, we will reflect on the difficult challenge ahead for Europe\, standing at the crossroads of navigating a substantial environmental and climate crisis while concurrently surviving in a  progressively intricate geopolitical landscape. \n  \nProject background\nThis event is part of GEF’s project Geopolitics of a Post-Growth Europe\, which explores the tensions between degrowth/post-growth and geopolitics. The project aims to ignite a conversation between critics of economic growth and progressive thinkers on foreign and security policy\, who now often operate in separate circuits. It aims to find solutions beyond naïve anti-militarism and convenient belief in green growth. Find out more about the project and its findings at geopoliticspostgrowth.eu. \n  \nSpeakers\n\nGaya Herrington – Research and econometrician. Author of ‘Update to Limits to Growth.’\nJesús A. Núñez – Geopolitical expert. Co-director of IECAH (Institute of Studies on Conflicts and Humanitarian Action)\nRichard Wouters – Think tanker at Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks. Coordinator and co-author of Geopolitics of a Post-Growth Europe.\n\nModerated by Lourdes Lucía\, lawyer and publisher. \n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: Thursday\, February 8th at 17:30 CEST \nLanguage: Spanish and English (simultaneous translation will be provided) \nLocation: Online\, via Zoom. \nRegistration: Please register in advance via this link in order to receive the Zoom details. \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Fundación Transición Verde\, and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Just Transition Sore Points
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nWhat should justness mean in the context of the green transition? How could it be measured and guaranteed? What are the most troublesome questions to solve if we zoom into the Finnish context? Does the definition of justness differ between urban and rural areas? \nIn this online event\, researcher Teea Kortetmäki will discuss this topic with Lukas Korpelainen from the Green Think Tank Visio. The discussion is open to participants to contribute their points of view for Kortetmäki to take home to the academic research projects like 2035Legitimacy. \n  \nProject background\nThis event is part of the Green European Foundation’s project A Just Green deal and Beyond. The first focus of this project is based on proposals of the green family to integrate ambitiously the social dimension\, so to work on a ‘Just Green Deal’. The second level will ‘Go Beyond’ the Green Deal and mobilize future-oriented concepts such as Sustainable Welfare\, related to an Ecological Welfare State and the operational concept of Universal Public Services. \n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 20th December\, 4-5pm EET \nLocation: Online \nLanguage:  Main language is Finnish \nRegistration: No registration\, the event link will be provided in due time on our website. \n  \n\nThis event is organized by the Green European Foundation with the support of  Green Think Tank Visio and with the financial support of the European parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:How Can Greens and Progressives Influence NATO?
DESCRIPTION:About the event: \nGreen and progressive parties across Europe have historically held a sceptical view towards NATO\, with many deeming such a military alliance incompatible with disarmament and a shift towards non-military solutions to international conflicts.   \nThe Russian war of aggression against Ukraine shifted some of these stances\, prompting extensive internal and external debates within the green movement\, particularly in Western and Northern Europe. These debates have cast a light on the desperate need for a green and progressive policy path within security and defence issues\, and revealed gaps that exist within green and progressive parties’ positions on military defence.   \nTo contribute to this crucial European debate\, GEF commissioned a report with the support of Cogito that maps out stances towards NATO across Europe\, explores how Greens and progressives can influence NATO\, and asks specific questions around topics like nuclear disarmament or focusing on European defence cooperation instead.   \nThis webinar will present some key findings of the working paper\, and discuss these questions further with a panel of interviewees.    \nProject background: \nWith a focus on the Eastern flank of Europe\, the 2022-2023 debates series seeks to enrich green and political ecology discourse. The series aim to provide spaces to hear the voices of green actors\, peace and security experts\, as well as partners from different regions. With the support of Cogito\, GEF is delving specifically into the question of NATO and anchoring the green movement’s debates on this topic within its many historical and geographical dimensions.  \nSpeakers:\n\nJacob Risberg\, Miljöpartiet de gröna \nAtte Harjanne\, Vihreät  \nMerle Spellerberg\, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen \nAndrés Ingi\, Píratar \nModerated by Sarah Bitamazire (report author) \n\nPracticalities: \nDate and Time: November 8th (20:30 – 22:00 CET)  \nLanguage: English    \nRegistration: This is an online event\, please register in advance via this link.  \n\nThis webinar is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Cogito and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Geopolitics of Post-Growth
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nScientists increasingly doubt whether we can stop the climate and ecological crises as long as our economy continues to grow. So we had better prepare for a future without GDP growth. In fact\, the degrowth movement\, which is rapidly gaining popularity among activists and scientists\, advocates the deliberate scaling back of overproduction and overconsumption to bring the economy back into balance with the living world\, in a way that reduces inequality and improves human well-being. \nBut what would a farewell to economic growth mean for geopolitics? Can a European Union that is the first to enter the post-growth era remain (or become) a global player? Will it be able to defend itself\, its allies\, democracy\, and the international rule of law against aggressive autocrats? The transition to a post-growth society must be a democratic one. But that is far from obvious at a time when authoritarian regimes are invading or threatening their democratic neighbours. \nOn the plus side\, a post-growth EU might gain resilience. Without economic growth\, it will be easier for the EU to reduce its dependence on imported energy and raw materials. This favours strategic autonomy. It also provides an opportunity to move beyond the neo-colonial ‘extractivism’ that burdens relations with the global South. \nIn this webinar\, we will identify points of contention and try to develop commonalities. After some brief introductions\, there will be ample time for participants to have their say. \n\nProject background\nThis event is part of GEF’s project Geopolitics of a Post-Growth Europe\, which explores the tensions between degrowth/post-growth and geopolitics. \n\nSpeakers\n\nSophie Bloemen\, co-director Commons Network\nRoderick Kefferpütz\, director of the European Union office of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung \nRichard Wouters\, project leader ‘Geopolitics of a post-growth Europe’ for GEF \n\nThe webinar will be moderated by Judith Sargentini\, former MEP for GroenLinks and CEO in the not-for-profit sector. \n\nPracticalities\nDate and Time: Friday\, 8 September (14:00 – 16:00 CEST)  \nLanguage: English  \nAudience: Public event online\, via Zoom    \nRegistration: Please register online via this link.  \nIn case of further questions\, contact project lead Richard Wouters – rwouters (at) groenlinks.nl  \n\nThis project is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:Dare to Care Book Tour: Poland
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nCare includes everything we do to preserve and restore the world. The multiple crises\, or perhaps polycrisis that we are facing\, show the importance of daring to care. The erosion of the welfare state\, the ongoing war in Ukraine\, the plundering of the Global South\, and the crossing of planetary boundaries are alarming\, to say the least. There is also a link between the exploitation of people and nature. Imagine what could happen if we found the courage to care for all people and other earthlings. \nCan care offer us a fresh start based on interconnectedness and generosity? How can care\, as an emancipatory principle\, underpin politics and the economy? In this webinar\, we will dive deeper into the content of the essay with author Philsan Osman\, and have a Q&A with the audience. \nContext\nThis webinar is part of Feminists in the Environmental Movement\, a GEF transnational project that seeks to stimulate conversations around (the intersections of) gender and environmental justice across Europe. The project is implemented with the support of Visio (Finland)\, Green Economics Institute (UK)\, Oikos (Belgium)\, Strefa Zieleni (Poland)\, Green Thought Association (Turkey)\, and CDNEE. \nSpeakers\nPhilsan Osman – Dare to Care co-author\, activist and community builder \nModerated by Ewa Sufin-Jacquemart\, GEF Board member and director of the Green Polish foundation “Strefa Zieleni” \nPracticalities\nDate and time: Thursday\, January 12th (19:00 CET) \nLanguage: English and Polish\, with simultaneous translation \nRegistration: The event will take place online via Zoom and is open to all. Please register in advance via this link. \nRelated reading\nThis event will revolve around Dare to Care\, GEF’s ecofeminist booklet that is now available in multiple languages including Polish. \nIf you are looking for more resources on feminism and the green movement\, do check out our e-learning course Green Feminism! \n  \n\nThis workshop is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Strefa Zieleni and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Resilience in the City\, How?
DESCRIPTION:Context\nResilient cities are able to withstand potential disasters\, whether they are social\, economic or geographical. The climate crisis\, in particular\, is  affecting the way people live in cities more and more. It creates social injustices with the most vulnerable communities being affected the most. Some local governments in Europe address these challenges by adopting transformative policies and innovative solutions to increase the accessibility to basic needs such as health\, sanitation\, housing\, food\, transportation\, and water management. \nThe Green European Foundation alongside the Green Thought Association\, aim to be a part of the solution by organizing the webinar “Resilience in the City\, How?” within the scope of the ongoing project “Cities as Places of Hope”. \nAbout the event\nDuring this conference\, various urban actors\, academics and green activists will gather to raise awareness\, build capacities and discuss how cities could become more resilient. Within the scope of resilience\, the experts will focus on the social and ecological issues caused by the climate crisis and social injustice through various examples. \nProgramme\nSession 1: Politics of Resilience\n13:05 – 14:05 \n\nLast three years with Cities As Place of Hope – Dirk Holemans\nWhat is Resilience?- Eray Çaylı\n14:05- 14:15 Break\n\nSession 2: Resilience in the Context of Food\, Housing and Social Issues\n14.15- 15.30 \n\nResilience and Housing in Europe – Kim Van Sparrentak\nFeeding the Metropolis During A Crisis – Berkan Özyer\n Increasing Social Resilience in the City – Who Owns the Night?- Yasemin Bahçekapılı\n\n15.30-16.30 \n\nOpen Session\n\nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 15 November 2022 at 13.00 (CET+3). \nLocation: Online \nLanguage: Turkish \nRegistration: Sign up here. \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Green Thought Association and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:The Dark Side of the Cloud
DESCRIPTION:Context\nWhen we think of the cloud\, we imagine it as something ethereal\, light and dematerialised. We don’t visualise the millions of devices\, thousands of kilometres of cables\, gigantic data storage\, and processing centres\, or the satellites that make up its immense infrastructure. We don’t conceive the enormous amount of mineral\, water\, and energy resources required for its operation. Nor the environmental impacts resulting from their production and disposal. \nDigital technologies have undoubtedly brought great advances for humanity. However\, if we want to continue to benefit from them in the future\, as well as from a healthy environment\, we must delve deeper into that dark side of the cloud and correct its pernicious effects. This is especially relevant at the present time\, with European post-covid policies pushing for digitalisation as a key element for economic recovery. And not only that\, this endeavour aims to face multiple crises\, including the global supply crisis; the energy crisis aggravated by the war in Ukraine; and an increasingly worrying climate and environmental crisis. \nThese will be discussed in this series\, as well as alternatives for a more energy-efficient\, sustainable and long-lasting digitalisation. \n\n  \nAbout\nThe series “The dark side of the cloud. The environmental impact of the virtual” is organised by the Green European Foundation (GEF) in collaboration with Fundación Transición Verde and La Casa Encendida. \nIt will take place on 20 and 27 October and 3 November\, from 18:00 to 19:30 (CEST) and consists of the following round tables. \n\n20 October: “Feeding the Beast. Part I: Infrastructure\, Water and Minerals“.\n27 October: “Feeding the Beast. Part II: Data and Energy“.\n3 November: “The Bright Side of the Cloud: The Digital Transition we Want“.\n\n\n  \nPracticalities\nThe event is online\, open and free with prior registration through this form. The activity will take place in a Zoom room. SUMMARY:Climate Change Impacts on Rural Women: Local Stories
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nOur planet is in danger\, and there are people fighting for their homes daily whose voices are not being heard. Conversations and decision-making around the climate crisis too often highlight the voices and experiences of a limited few\, depriving us of crucial perspectives in national and European conversations. Moreover\, we know that the effects of the climate crisis have a disproportionate impact on specific demographics\, such as women and those living in rural communities.   \nThis year\, local reporters in seven countries of Central and Eastern Europe have visited the areas harmed by climate change and harsh industries\, and listened to the inspiring stories of young women living in rural areas.   \nWe will hear their perspectives and discuss the intersection of feminist and environmental movements through different lenses they discovered in these local stories. \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: Friday\, August 26th (18:00-19:00 CEST)  \nLocation: Online \nRegistration: Please register in advance here. \nAudience: This webinar is open to all interested participants. It will consist of presentations from the local reporters followed by audience Q&A and discussion. The webinar will take place in English.  \nRelated Reading\nFor more on this topic\, check out these articles from our flagship publication\, the Green European Journal:  \nFighting the Patriarchy to Save the Planet  \nGender in Climate Governance: Telling Numbers but Who is Listening?  \nGender Justice: Beyond Binaries and Buzzwords  \nDown but Not Out: Central Europe’s Independent Media  \nSave the Facts: Journalism as a Weapon against Disinformation  \nCommunities Against Climate Change: Exploring Resilience in Rural Scotland  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Cooperation and Development Network Eastern Europe (CDNEE) and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:City and countryside: so close\, so far
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nWith around 55% of the world’s population living in urban areas (over 75% in Europe)\, building resilient cities has become a challenge. But to successfully meet this challenge\, we cannot focus only on urban areas. The strategies put in place must consider the territory they are part of and their dependence on the resources of rural areas. Establishing a balanced relationship with its rural environment will bring mutual benefits\, as well as giving greater autonomy and independence to the city itself in obtaining the basic resources it needs. \nBased on this premise\, how should we manage food\, water or energy to make our cities and territories more resilient? We will talk about this in this session organised by the Green European Foundation (GEF) with the support of the Transición Verde Foundation. \nSpeakers\n\nMarta Olazabal is the head of the Adaptation research group at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3). She has participated in the drafting of the IPCC 2022 report\, in chapter 6 on Urban Areas.\nJorge Molero is a consultant and project technician at the Entretantos Foundation and is in charge of the technical secretariat of the Network of Municipalities for Agroecology.\nFrancesc La Roca is a founding member of Fundación Nueva Cultura del Agua (New Water Culture Foundation) and professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Valencia.\nIsmael Morales is the head of communications at the Fundación Renovables (Renewables Foundation) and a contributor on energy issues to the newspaper El Confidencial.\n\nModerator: Lidia Ucher\, journalist specialising in communication for social and climate justice. \nPracticalities\nWhen: 26th May\, 18:00-19:30 PM CEST \nWhere: The event is online on Zoom\, open and free of charge. \nLanguage: The main language of this activity will be in Spanish. SUMMARY:Green-Red Dialogues: Ukraine and Europe’s New Role in the World
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nThe devastating war in Ukraine is a humanitarian disaster\, with horrific consequences for the country’s inhabitants and more lives lost every day. Europe has taken a leading role in the international response\, not just because of proximity and the direct consequences that this unprecedented conflict is having for the continent\, but also because it marks an undeniable turning point that demands a joint and transversal response. \nThis crisis\, however\, will require not just short-term\, but also mid-to-long term action\, and a shift in how Europe positions itself in various domains. There are economic\, energy\, geopolitical and other implications\, and important choices to be made. Faced with all this\, we need to create room for debate where we can bring green and left-wing perspectives to the questions and consequences we will have to face. \nAnna Lührmann and Ernest Urtasun will try to give us answers from this perspective\, a European vision that will draw different perspectives from both Germany and southern Europe. \nContext\nGEF’s Green Red Dialogues\, organised with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons\, aim to tackle pressing issues of our time and the challenges Europe faces with an explicit social and green lens. In doing so\, these debates connect the red and the green and highlight Southern European perspectives on crucial topics like energy\, mobility\, and security in the 21st century. \nSpeakers\n\nAnna Lührmann – Minister of State for Europe and Climate of the German government \nErnest Urtasun – Member of the European Parliament\, Greens/EFA \n\nPracticalities\nDate and Time: Monday\, April 25th (18:00 – 19:00 CEST)  \nLocation: Online\, via Zoom  \nLanguage: English and Catalan\, with simultaneous translation  \nRegistration: Please sign-up in advance via this link.   \nFurther Reading\nSince the war in Ukraine began\, our independent publication\, the Green European Journal has been publishing articles and interviews to look into the regional context and impacts\, the role of media and civil society\, and the energy and environmental dimension\, as well as its implications for the future of the European Union. Here’s what the Journal has published so far. \n\nThis webinar is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Fundacio Nous Horitzons and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Just Transition in the Western Balkans
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nWhile the EU has tried to extend some of its climate objectives to candidate countries via the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans\, civil society and other actors have raised questions as to what extent it meets the needs and will bring clear\, transparent\, and sustainable change to the region. Renewed efforts and public debate are crucial to drive the transition to a sustainable and carbon-neutral wellbeing economy that works for the people of the Western Balkans.    \nIn this webinar\, we will explore the transition to an economy of the future by bringing together experts on the topic who will share their experiences and solutions to promote a just transition in the Western Balkan region. We have to rethink production and consumption from the perspective of a social circular economy. Only when the transformation is planned and executed in a just and equitable way\, will it find the necessary support in short time among the population. Through this project\, we are researching the different dimensions of a Just Transition and the politics and policies we should develop nationally and regionally to make the change in our economic realities.   \n\nContext\nThis seminar is part of the Green European Foundation’s Just Transition transnational project. The project looks into the question of transforming from an extractive to a regenerative economy in a just and equitable way to find the necessary support among the population. It seeks to show that the green movement\, including GEF in its specific role\, is a leading actor in the development of future-proof politics and policies\, developed in a sensitive way that keeps in mind local specificities.  \n\nSpeakers\n\nDragan Minovski – Professor at the Electro Technical Faculty of Shtip \nSonja Risteska – Project Manager Southeast Europe at Agora Energiewende \nAleksandar Gjorgjievski – National Project Coordinator for GEF Just Transition project (ASSED Sunrise) \n\nModerated by: Hristijan Stanoevikj \n\nProgramme\n10:55-11:00  Participants join the call  \n11:00-11:10  Introduction  \n11:10-11:50  Speaker presentations: exploring Just Transition  \n *announcement of the upcoming GEF  book ”A European Just Transition for a Better World”  (May\, 2022)  \n11:50-12:10  Panel discussion and Q&A  \n\nPracticalities\nDate and Time: Saturday\, March 26th (11:00 – 12:00)  \nLanguage: Macedonian  \nRegistration: This event will be taking place online. SUMMARY:Hydrogen and the Green Transition
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nGreen hydrogen is produced from water and renewable energy. It can be used as an energy carrier and as a raw material\, replacing fossil fuels. But its production requires a lot of green electricity\, and green hydrogen will remain scarce well into the next decade.   \nThis webinar will run through oft-proposed solutions for green hydrogen scarcity\, including the risks they carry and criteria that should be considered. These potential options include the production of blue hydrogen\, prioritisation via a hydrogen ladder\, and importing hydrogen from countries with sun\, wind\, and physical space to produce renewable energy.   \nWe will also discuss broader questions around the role of hydrogen in the green transition.  Does ditching Russian gas require a revision of the hydrogen strategy\, with even less of a role for blue hydrogen? Which industries have a future in a sustainable Netherlands and how big is their demand for hydrogen? What infrastructure is needed to transport hydrogen and its derivatives? How will the costs of scaling up hydrogen production be divided between government and industry?  \n  \nContext\nThis webinar is part of the project Climate Emergency Economy – organised by GEF with the support of Green House Think Tank\, Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks\, and Green Foundation Ireland. The project explores what an economy fit for the climate emergency looks like\, focusing particularly on the policies required in ‘hard-to-reach’ sectors for Europe to reach zero carbon.   \nThe webinar will begin with an overview of key project findings and proposals. This will be followed by political reactions from the MEPs and MPs\, and then room for questions and discussions between all of the participants.   \n  \nSpeakers\n\nBas Eickhout (MEP\, Greens/EFA) \nSuzanne Kröger (MP\, GroenLinks) \nMohammed Chahim (MEP\, S&D) \nJoris Thijssen (MP\, PvdA) \nEvert Nieuwenhuis and Richard Wouters (Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks) \n Paul Apeldoorn (PvdA Duurzaam) \nNienke Homan (Sustainable Hydrogen Club)\nTitia van Leeuwen (Milieunetwerk GroenLinks) – Chair \n\n\nProgramme\n10:00 – Opening by Titia van Leeuwen\n10:05 – Presentation: hydrogen in a European perspectives\, followed by Q&A\n10:30 – Presentation: role of the Netherlands in the hydrogen economy\, followed by Q&A\n10:45 – Political responses\n11:15 – Expert responses\n11:30 –  Discussion with politicians and participants\n11:55 – Closing remarks \n\nPracticalities\nDate and time: 18 March\, 10:00 – 12:00 CET  \nLocation: Online\, via Zoom  \nLanguage: Dutch  \nRegistration: via this link  \n\nDiving in:\nDive into this topic and prepare for the webinar by checking out some of our work on this topic:  \nGreen European Journal article: The Limits of Europe’s Corporate-Led Hydrogen Project  \nProject Publication: Greening Hydrogen – Big issues around a small molecule  \n  \n  \n  \nSummary Video: Greening Hydrogen  \n\n  \n\nThis webinar is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:A just transition: between a bitter pill and sweet dreams
DESCRIPTION:Context\nTransition is a word that arouses bad associations in the Western Balkans region. When talking about the transition\, people usually first think of collapsing institutions\, selling off public companies and social property. At a time when the Western Balkans are witnessing mass privatisation and commodification of natural resources\, talks on green transition and transformation towards sustainability are emerging too (although still far behind the European average). \nThese days\, we are witnessing mass protests for environmental justice in Serbia and miners’ protests in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The simple introduction of environmental standards\, without a social dimension\, has never worked. Therefore\, this is an important topic for discussion\, even more so within the framework of a fair transition in Europe. \nThe concept of a just transition is a comprehensive guideline that complements the Green Deal in the transformation towards an environmentally sustainable society in a just and fair way. With the development of this concept\, trade unions and climate movements emphasise the need for systemic transformation. A fair transition implies fundamental changes\, not only of key economic branches and consumer systems\, such as energy\, transport\, agriculture and food\, but also changes in infrastructure\, social values and politics. In addition\, this concept highlights the need for a global shift towards a humane and fair economic system\, with a healthy ecosystem\, health\, public services\, education and culture at its core. \nDuring the discussion that will be organized by the Green European Foundation in cooperation with the organization for political ecology Polekol\, we will try to find answers to some of these questions: \n– What is the broader context of a fair transition and why we need it? \n– What does a fair transition mean for the Western Balkans region and how can we reach it? \n– What is the role of workers and unions in the green transition? \n  \nSpeakers\n– Dr. Maja Pupovac\, project manager of the RES Foundation\n– Miodrag Pantović\, project assistant on the project “On the way to the EU” of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and the regional network “SOLIDARITY” with the support of the European Commission\n– Alma Midzic\, Crvena Sarajevo\n\nModerated by:  Žaklina Živković\, Polekol\n\n  \nPracticalities\nDate and time: 28th December \nAudience: the event is open for the general public. \nThe webinar will be broadcasted on the Polekol Facebook page. \n\nThis project is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Polekol and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:Next Generation – A Feminist Perspective
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nThis Green Red Dialogue confronts the European Union’s Next Generation EU fund\, a fund created to support member states in their economic and social recovery and resilience from the COVID-19 pandemic. Such massive investment has a great impact in setting the EU’s economic path for generations to come\, but are feminist issues being considered ? \nWe will discuss the gendered effects of the COVID-19 crisis regarding job creation and overall livelihood improvement\, and of course\, whether the scheme contemplates the fundamental values of gender equality . \nContext\nThe Green-Red Dialogues began in 2020 as a way to reflect on current issues from explicitly green and social perspectives. The challenges we face as a result of the COVID-19 crisis are new and unpredictable. Today it is more urgent than ever to reverse the consequences of a capitalist system that not only brought forth the pandemic but has also caused irreparable cracks in our planet. A capitalist system that has been shown to foster social inequality and that assaults the Earth.   \nWe cannot fall into fatalistic discourses and convey the message that all is lost. Instead\, we must disseminate proposals and make the citizens of the European Union aware that another option is possible – that green policies are compatible with the economy\, progress\, and development.  \nWith this in mind\, the Green Red Dialogues continue in 2021\, once again providing the space for European policy makers\, academics\, activists\, and citizens to address the challenges of today – combining current affairs and in-depth analysis to spark vibrant discussions about greener\, more socially just solutions.  \nSpeakers\n Alexandra Geese – Greens/EFA MEP  \nLaura Lopéz – MP for Catalunya in Común  \nDolors Comas – politician and anthropologist\, Rovira i Virgili University  \nWelcome by Susanne Rieger (GEF) and moderated by Marc Rius  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: Tuesday\, December 21st (18:00-19:00)  \nAudience: The webinar is free and open to the general public. There will be simultaneous interpretation in Spanish and English. \nPlease register in advance via this link.   \nRecommended Reading\nDelve more into the topics of this event by checking out some related articles in the Green European Journal!  \n\nThe Pandemic Is Gendered – and so Is Recovery (Rosa Martínez Rodríguez) \nCoronavirus Recovery and Just Transition in Spain: A Unique Opportunity (Joaquín Nieto and Lucía Baratech) \n“Green Policies Are About Our Entire Way of Life” (Inés Sabanés) \nJust Transition: Time for a Rethink? (Rosa Martínez Rodríguez)

SUMMARY:Women* in Power
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThis international conference brings together speakers from all over Turkey and Europe to highlight commonalities and explore the solidarity and struggles of gender studies in green policy. It is the second edition of the conference\, and just like last year\, we aim to bring together activists\, politicians\, and academics to share their thoughts and build a stronger movement for gender and environmental justice. \nContext: \nIn October\, Turkey finally ratified the Paris Climate Agreement\, asserting its claim to be an important part of the global climate struggle. However\, in July its government left the Istanbul Convention against violence against women\, despite being one of the first signatories and in defiance of countless protests\, actions\, and calls throughout the year.\nThe usurpation of the rights of nature on one hand and gender-based violence\, discrimination\, and inequality on the other are crimes that occur every day in Turkey. But faced with worsening conditions\, the climate\, ecology\, women’s and LGBTQI+ movements have also started to grow. We witness their developing and spreading resistance against male domination\, which imposes itself as the only reality\, sees nature and people as resources and exploits them.\nGreen thought emphasizes the importance of combining climate and ecological struggles\, women and LGBTQI+ struggles\, for a better and liveable world where the rights of all people\, living things and nature are protected. We believe in the need to emerge and the globality of solidarity – issues with which this conference seeks to engage. The international conference forms the closing of a year-long project on centralising gender equality and feminist perspectives in green policies. \n\nProgramme and Speakers\n13:00 – 13:10 Opening  \n\nModeration: Bahar Topçu Board of Green Thought Association & Climate Activist \n\nSession 1: International Solidarity  \n\n13:15-13:30 Faika El-Nagashi – Austrian Greens Member of Parliament \n\n\n13:30-13:45 Anuna De Wever – Belgian climate activist  \n13:45-13:55 Q&A \n\nSession 2: Debates on Gender and Climate Justice  \n\n14:00-14:20 V’cenza Cirefice – Activist / Researcher\, Environmental Justice Network Ireland \n14:20-14:40 Özge Doruk Activist /Researcher – Report Presentation On the Issue of Climate Justice: Field Notes from Bozkurt\n14:40-15:00 Kristen Biehl & Özlem Aslan Researchers (Sabancı University SuGender) \n15:00-15:15 Q&A \n\n\nPracticalities: \nAudience: This conference will take place online and is open to the general public.  \nDate: Saturday\, 11 December (exact times to be announced)  \nLanguage: Turkish and English\, with simultaneous translation  \nRegistration: Please register in advance via this link.   \n  \n\nThis online conference is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Green Thought Association and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.  \n

SUMMARY:Through Value to Wealth: Sustainable Tourism in Serbia
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nAlthough tourism is well known for being an industry that stimulates the economy and the creation of new jobs\, experience shows that its traditional way of development is detrimental to the environment\, and therefore – to all of us. The jobs generated by mass tourism today are mostly seasonal and precarious\, while much of the revenue goes to a few big companies and hotel chains. In addition\, an unreasonable increase of tourists puts a lot of pressure on natural resources and leads to various negative impacts on the environment. \nOn the other hand\, trends show that tourists are increasingly opting to visit preserved natural areas where they can enjoy sports and recreation. In addition\, the Covid-19 pandemic has significantly affected the way we travel\, and it is noticeable that people\, instead of mass\, are increasingly choosing small-scale tourism\, which means less social interaction and more enjoyment of nature. \nWe are witnessing a rise in awareness of green issues in the entire world\, but also in Serbia and the region. Citizens becoming conscious of their own need for living in a healthy and clean environment. That is why they are getting involved in the decision-making process\, demanding to a sustainable development of the environment. \nSerbia is a country rich in natural beauty and has huge tourist potential. In this webinar\, speakers will discuss how we can better use it for the development of sustainable tourism\, drawing lessons and exchanging as well with other emerging tourist destinations in the region. \nContext\nWhat is the future of tourism? Through the project “Fair and carbon-free tourism\,” GEF and its partner organisations across Europe (Austria\, Croatia\, Northern Macedonia\, Spain\, and Serbia)\, is researching ways in which tourism\, as an industry\, can be transformed to be more environmentally and socially sustainable – a tourism that will not only contribute to the development of the local community and economy but also at the same time preserve and regenerate natural resources for future generations.  \nSpeakers\n Milica Kočović – an independent researcher who\, through her specific prism\, considers the potential for the development of sustainable tourism on Mt. Balkans (Stara Planina)  \nKatarina Lević – a researcher from Polekol who researched spa tourism in Serbia  \nPredrag Momčilović – a researcher from Platform Zajedničko who worked on sustainable tourism in the Serbian capital Belgrade  \nStevche Dechev – from Sunrise\, who will present examples of managing nature and cultural good in Ohrid\, North Macedonia  \n\nPracticalities\nDate: Thursday\, December 9th (18:00 CET)  \nLanguage: Serbian  \nRegistration: Please register for the webinar in advance via this link.  \n\nThis webinar is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of PolEkol and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Dare to Care: Ecofeminism as Inspiration
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nThe global Covid crisis brought healthcare into the spotlight. Care\, however\, extends beyond the strictly medical in that it includes everything we do to preserve and restore the world. The erosion of the welfare state\, the plundering of the Global South and the crossing of planetary boundaries is alarming. There is also the link between the exploitation of people and of nature. Imagine we found the courage to truly care for all people and other earthlings\, for our unique living world.   \nInspired by ecofeminists worldwide\, the authors wonder: can care be a new starting point\, based on connectedness and generosity? Can care\, as an emancipatory principle\, underpin politics and economics?  \nIn this webinar\, we will dive deeper into the content of the essay\, followed by a Q&A with the audience. \n  \nContext\nThis is the last of four public webinars as part of the project “Feminists in the Climate Movement\,” organised by GEF with the support of Visio\, Green Economics Institute\, Oikos\, and Fundacja Strefa Zieleni. With a closed training programme for selected Feminist Climate Ambassadors as well as a series of public events\, the project seeks to build capacity among (potential) climate leaders\, while highlighting the gendered aspects and impacts of the climate crisis to a broader audience.    \n\n\nPracticalities\nDate and time: Monday\, December 6th from 19:30 to 21:00 CET.   \nAudience: This webinar will take place in English and is open to the general public.   \nRegistration: Please register in advance via this link.    \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Oikos and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Pilot projects on UBI
DESCRIPTION:About the event\n“The Unconditional Basic Income is a periodic cash transfer granted to all members of a political community\, without work requirement nor means-testing\, and high enough to ensure an existence in dignity and participation in society”. \nDuring this event\, we will analyse some examples of UBI pilot projects that have been developed in recent years as debunk negative stereotypes. The last part of the session will focus on deriving lessons and best practices for a future universal basic income. \nContext\nThe idea of a basic income was\, for decades\, a utopia. But the last few years have seen it become more and more real\, to the point where we now have many basic income pilot programs up and running around the world. \nThe severity of the pandemic has also highlighted the need to reduce inequalities and protect the most vulnerable. With the crisis generating so much financial loss and uncertainty\, and with public stimulus packages failing to meet the needs of millions\, we need decisive actions and bold solutions more than ever. \nSpeakers\n• Julen Bollain: Spanish economist specialising in unconditional basic income. Julen is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Mondragón (Basque Country). He is also a PhD student in Development Studies\, under the direction of Daniel Raventós. SUMMARY:How do we build Community Wealth?
DESCRIPTION:Context\nA new model of economic development\, called Community Wealth Building (CWB)\, is emerging in cities and communities all over Europe. These cities are challenging the dominant economic system that puts private capital accumulation above the basic needs of people. Local policymakers are building collaborative\, inclusive\, and locally controlled economies. \nDuring this event\, we will explore the concept of CWB and discuss how local authorities can implement these ideas in their own cities. This webinar is part of the project Cities as Places of Hope\, that highlights inspiring examples of progressive cities across Europe which are the frontrunners of the social-ecological transition. \nSpeakers\n\nTom Lloyd Goodwin\, Associate Director of the Centre for Local Economic Strategies: Tom is one of the drivers of Community Wealth Building movement in the United Kingdom and will tell us about the ideas of CWB and the way it is being developed in the UK.\nSimion Blom\, Councilor of GroenLinks in Amsterdam: Simion will talk about their plans to implement the CWB model in Amsterdam.\n\n  \nProgramme\n19:00 – 19:05: Welcome and introduction by Hans Rodenburg \n19:05 – 19:20: Presentation by Tom Lloyd Goodwin \n19:20 – 19:35: Presentation by Simion Blom \n19:35 – 20:00: Questions and discussion \n  \nPracticalities\nDate and time: Thursday\, 28th October from 19:30 to 20:30 CET. \nAudience: This webinar will take place in English and is open to the general public \nRegistrations: Please register through this link. \nThis event will be organised through the ZOOM platform. \n\nAudiovisual material\n\nAdditional GEF reading material:  \n \n  \n\nThis project is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:Towards a fair and sustainable food system: The Transformative Potential of Agroecology
DESCRIPTION:About the event:\nThe food industry is one of the main factors behind biodiversity loss and the worsening of global inequalities. We aim to contribute to a better understanding of the food system as a tool for social change. It is vital to understand the different processes and exercise critical thinking\, as actors in the agri-food system become aware\, act\, and demand change. \nThese project will be decided into sessions that will have a European focus\, but also a global one\, as global is the agri-food business and\, above all\, its impacts. The Common Agricultural Policy and the different European strategies and policies (From Farm to Fork) will be present throughout this series of roundtables in September/ October and with the speakers we will try to analyse their positive and negative aspects regarding the topics discussed. \n  \nProgramme:\n5. THE TRANSFORMATIVE POTENTIAL OF AGROECOLOGY \nAgroecology is a way of farming that focuses on food production that makes the best use of nature’s goods and services while not damaging these resources. It is an in-depth transformative tool to develop sustainable agri-food systems\, moving away from the industrial system. \nAgroecology teaches us that there is another way of looking at the world\, a more sustainable and fairer way to feed humanity\, respecting the environment\, and taking care of both producers and consumers. \nAgroecological initiatives are on the rise as they favour soil regeneration\, water protection\, and safeguards biodiversity. It protects our health\, promotes employment\, fair wages\, makes women’s work visible and valued\, and revitalizes the rural economy. \nHowever\, the adjective “agroecological” can hide a distinct reality. Large agri-food companies have found in agroecology a new business opportunity\, albeit one that promotes their vision based on profit and is far removed from its transformative component. They incorporate certain practices to mitigate some agricultural affects but avoid touching the pillars holding the current industrial system. In this session\, we will further explore this issue. We will also look at the EU’s strategies and policies to promote agroecology. We will also learn about two agroecological experiences: the Ecocomedores in the Canary Islands and the projects of the El Colletero Association ( \nSpeakers:\n* Andrés Muñoz\, Head of Food Sovereignty at Friends of the Earth specialising in\nawareness raising and advocacy on Food Sovereignty.\n* Aina Calafat\nHead of international projects of the Spanish Society of Organic Agriculture and Agroecology. She\nworked for almost 20 years as technical director of the Consell Balear de la Producció Agrària\nEcològica.\n* Margarita Hernández\nTechnician at the Canary Islands Institute of Agri-food Quality (ICCA) and coordinator of the\nEcocomedores (eco canteens) programme.\n* Raquel Ramírez\nrepresentative of El Colletero (Nalda – La Rioja)\, an association that promotes agroecology to\nachieve sustainable development and equality.\nModeration:\n* Helena Cifre\nCoordinator of the Spanish Society of Organic Agriculture and Agroecology. Law graduate\,\necofeminist and expert in responsible consumption. \nPracticalities:\nWhere: Online platform – ZOOM \nTime and date: 21 October\, 17:30-19:00 PM CET \nLanguage: Simultaneous translation to English \nAudience: these series of webinars are open for the general public \nRegistrations: Registrations are now open <<< \n \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Transición Verde and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:UBI & the COVID-19 pandemic
DESCRIPTION:About the event\n“The Unconditional Basic Income is a periodic cash transfer granted to all members of a political community\, without work requirement nor means-testing\, and high enough to ensure an existence in dignity and participation in society”. \nDuring this event\, we’ll put UBI on the spotlight as a driving solution to tackle poverty and income inequality and other problems in a changing world. \nWe will also review GEF brochure on social policy responses to COVID-19\, which examines the social policy reactions to the Covid-19 crisis in a dozen different European countries. \nContext\nThe COVID-19 crisis continues to change the way we live our lives\, and how social services continue to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable. This crisis will affect how governments plan their future responses to social emergencies\, and UBI could be one effective way to do it. \nThis event is part of our knowledge community ‘A welfare state of the 21st century’. The Green European Foundation has been working on this issue for several years with the aim of opening a debate on UBI across Europe. We are now joining forces with other social actors to give this effort a broader scope. \nAs the debate continues\, we too would be interested in expanding our analysis to include new information and additional countries. \nSpeakers\n• Valerija Korošec\, PhD in Postmodern Sociology. She is a representative of Slovenia in the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN) and the European Network for the Fair Sharing of Working Time.\n• Natalie Bennet\, Green member of the House of Lords in the UK. Former leader of the Green Party of England and Wales from 2012 to 2016. She previously spent 20\nyears working as a journalist\, (the Bangkok Post\, The Times\, and the Guardian Weekly)\n• Simo Raittila\, Coordinator of the Finnish think tank Visio and a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Helsinki. In 2018 he worked on last-resort social assistance register research at Kela\, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. \nModeration:\nHannes Mehrer. Coordinator of the Basic income working Group of the German Green party and of the Green Network of UBI supporters. \n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: October 19th (17:00-18:00)\nAudience: The webinar is free and open to the general public.\nRegistration: Please register in advance via this link. \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Transición Verde and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:Towards a fair and sustainable food system: Food Sovereignty vs. Corporate Control
\n  \nProgramme:\n4. FOOD SOVEREIGNTY VERSUS CORPORATE CONTROL \nThe logic of liberalism applied to agri-food markets has led to the accumulation of political and economic power by a small group of actors in critical sectors of the food chain. \nPowerful agricultural companies dictate the rules for the functioning of the entire system. They exercise influence on policy-makers to boost policies that promote a productivity-based form of agriculture\, neglecting any form of environmental responsibility or social justice. \nWho’s in charge of making these decisions and in whose interests? How do these corporations exercise power? What is the EU doing to control this power and guarantee food sovereignty? Is food sovereignty compatible with free-market models as we know them today? Are there economic alternatives? In this session\, we will try to delve deeper into the web of interests that are endangering food sovereignty and security. \nSpeakers:\n* Vandana Shiva\none of the most influential women in the field of ecology and ecofeminism. PhD in Physics\,\nphilosopher and writer\, she has received numerous awards such as the Right Livelihood Award\,\nthe UN Global 500 Award and the Sanctuary Wildlife Award..\n* Sofía Monsalve\nSecretary General of FIAN International where she coordinated the land and natural resources\nprogramme for more than 15 years. SUMMARY:Towards a fair and sustainable food system: The Hidden Cost of Cheap Food
\n  \nProgramme:\n3. THE HIDDEN COST OF CHEAP FOOD  \nThe EU is responsible for more than 10% of global deforestation. Global soy production -driven by a growing demand to provide food for large industrial meat farms- has more than doubled since 1997.\nThis rapid expansion is destroying some of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems\, such as the Amazon and the Cerrado and Gran Chaco forests in South America. \nAquaculture is the fastest-growing food sector in the world. Multinationals in the aquaculture sector present fish and shellfish farming as a cheap solution to the natural limits of fisheries. These fish\, however\, have to be fed on fishmeal and fish oil\, most of which is made from wild-caught fish and crustaceans. Spain is the EU Country with the highest production\, accounting for almost a quarter of the entire union. \nThe production of cheap food has profound environmental\, social\, and health impacts. In this session\, we will focus on soy monoculture for livestock feed\, industrial aquaculture\, and animal suffering. \nSpeakers:\n* Olga Kikou\nEuropean Affairs Manager at Compassion in World Farming. She was President of the Green Greek\nInstitute and a member of the Board of the Green European Foundation.\n* Nazaret Castro\nJournalist\, PhD in Social Sciences and co-founder of Carro de Combate\, a collective dedicated to\nindependent journalism\, which investigates the origin of the products we consume.\n* Natasha Hurley\nCampaign Manager Changing Markets where she is currently running a campaign to eradicate the\nuse of wild-caught fish in aquaculture. She was formerly Climate Campaigner at EIA lobbying for a\nglobal phase-out of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)\n* Thomas Waitz\nCo-chair of the European Green Party\, MEP in the Greens/EFA Group. His work focuses on\nsustainable agriculture\, regional production and healthy food\, the Common Agricultural Policy\nand the reform of the animal transport directive. \nModeration:\n* Lidia Ucher\nJournalist specialising in social communication in the field of cooperation\, the third sector and\necology. \nPracticalities:\nWhere: Online platform – ZOOM \nTime and date: 7 October\, 17:30-19:00 PM CET \nLanguage: Simultaneous translation to English \nAudience: these series of webinars are open for the general public \nRegistrations: Registrations are now open <<< \n \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Transición Verde and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:A Basic Income for Europe
DESCRIPTION:About the event\n“The Unconditional Basic Income is a periodic cash transfer granted to all members of a political community\, without work requirement nor means-testing\, and high enough to ensure an existence in dignity and participation in society”. \nDuring this event\, we’ll seek to analyse if a European UBI is possible. We’ll put the focus on what benefits it would bring compared to nationwide implementation and how institutions could finance it. \nWe will also review how the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) for a European Basic Income emerged and whether European society is actually ready for a basic income. \nContext\nViews on a guaranteed basic income vary drastically across Europe. In 2020 a Universal Basic Income ECI was launched to request the EU Commission to make a proposal for unconditional basic incomes throughout the EU to reduce regional disparities and to strengthen the economic\, social and territorial cohesion in the EU. \nSpeakers\n\nMalcolm Torry. Dr. Malcolm Torry is a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Bath and treasurer of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN)\, and was until recently a visiting senior fellow at the London School of Economics and director of the Citizen’s Basic Income Trust. He has written a number of books about Basic Income\, and for nearly twenty years has researched the financial feasibility of illustrative Basic Income schemes.\n\n  \n\nKlaus Sambor. One of the main initiators of activities surrounding basic income in Austria and in Europe and one of the main organizers of the European Citizens’ Initiative “Start Unconditional Basic Incomes (UBI) throughout the EU”\, which is taking place in all countries of the European Union.\n\n  \nModeration: \nEwa Suffin-Jacquemart.  Member of the Board of the Green European Foundation and Director of the Polish green foundation Fundacja Strefa Zieleni.\n  \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: October 5th (17:00-18:00)\nAudience: The webinar is free and open to the general public.\nRegistration: Please register in advance via this link. \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Transición Verde and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:Germany after Merkel – Consequences for Southern Europe
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nGermany will be heading to the polls on September 26th to elect a new government. Citizens across Europe will follow the results with anticipation – also in Spain and Catalonia.\nIs a green government possible? What will the results mean for German relations with Southern Europe? Will a potential Green Wave help Spanish and Catalan Greens gain more space and influence too?\nWe will discuss these and other questions with our guest speakers. Together we’ll try to get insight into what could be a consequential moment in European politics. \n  \nContext:\nThe Green-Red Dialogues began in 2020 to trigger a reflection on current issues from explicitly green and social perspectives. The challenges we face as a result of the COVID-19 crisis are new and unpredictable. Today we highlight the need to reverse the consequences of a capitalist system that generated the pandemic and has also caused irreparable cracks in our planet. A capitalist system that fosters social inequality and that assails the Earth.\nWe cannot fall into fatalistic discourse and convey the message that all is lost\, and consequently\, there isn’t much more to do. Instead\, we must disseminate proposals and make EU citizens aware that an alternative way of living is possible – that green policies are compatible with a prosperous economy\, progress\, and development.\nWith this in mind\, the Green Red Dialogues continue in 2021\, once again providing the space for European policymakers\, academics\, activists\, and citizens to address today’s challenges – combining current affairs and in-depth analysis to spark vibrant discussions about greener\, more socially just solutions. \n  \nSpeakers:\nReinhard Bütikofer – German MEP\, European Greens\nCarme Colomina – researcher specialising in the EU\, disinformation\, and global politics at CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs)\nMaría-Paz López – La Vanguardia\, Berlin correspondent \nWelcome by Susanne Rieger (co-president of the Green European Foundation)\nModeration by Marc Rius \n  \nPracticalities:\nDate and Time: September 30th (16:00-17:30)\nAudience: The webinar is free and open to the general public.\nThere will be simultaneous interpretation in Spanish and English.\nRegistration: Please register in advance via this link. \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Nous Horitzons and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.
