DESCRIPTION:About the event:\nGeopolitical tensions and inequality between and within countries highlight the urgent need for a socially just transition that leaves no one behind. While the EU has taken significant steps through the EU Green Deal\, contradictions persist. Wellbeing is mentioned in EU documents\, but a comprehensive plan for making human and planetary wellbeing a priority in decision-making is still missing. \nAs we strive for an economy that aligns with human needs and planetary boundaries\, new economic approaches are emerging across academia\, civil society\, and institutions. The publication we are launching aims to address this challenge by developing ideas and political proposals to turn the EU’s ambition to “work towards an integrated framework for wellbeing” into action. \nOur political brief is the result of a one-year-long exchange within a  Knowledge Community of more than 60 experts\, mapping key challenges and offering recommendations to guide European institutions in making wellbeing a reality. SUMMARY:GEF Green Horizons Academy - Good for Nature (Belgrade)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nThe GEF Green Horizons Academy (GHA) is an annual space for discussion and idea development around the future of environmental and social policies in Europe. This year’s edition\, Good for Nature\, will focus on advocating for strong biodiversity protection policies and empowering civic engagement in environmental efforts.  \nIn 2025\, nature protection activists and green minded individuals in general face mounting challenges. The EU’s Biodiversity Strategy 2030 is under pressure\, environmental laws are threatened by corporate lobbying\, and civic movements face increasing repression amid a growing trend of authoritarianism. Meanwhile\, in Serbia and across the Balkans\, local movements struggle to protect ecosystems from extractivist industries\, such as lithium mining and hydropower projects. In this context\, GHA: Good for Nature will bring together civil society representatives\, grassroots activists\, EU policy experts\, and decision-makers to strategize and build knowledge on defending nature and strengthening environmental democracy.  \nThe two-day conference will feature a public panel debate\, a field trip to explore local environmental challenges\, workshops\, and networking opportunities.  \nProject Background\nGEF GHA: Good for Nature is part of the Green European Foundation’s broader mission to promote a sustainable and socially just future. Join us at Green Talks with GEF during Green Days 2025 in Białowieża for a day of powerful discussions on defense\, democracy\, and environmental justice! \nAbout the event\nGreen Talks with GEF is a special contribution by the Green European Foundation (GEF) to Green Days 2025\, a Green summer school taking place this year in the iconic Białowieża National Park. DESCRIPTION:The Greenhouse: Training for Activists is a unique opportunity to connect\, learn and grow as part of a new generation of green European changemakers. 30 young green activists\, committed to building a more just and sustainable Europe\, will join this summer in Sigulda\, Latvia to further build their green activist skillset. \n\nAbout the training \nThe Greenhouse: Training for Activists is a five-day summer intensive designed for young green activists and emerging changemakers aligned with green values and European democracy.   \nCentered around the theme of  Freedom\, the training combines participatory methods\, expert-led workshops and debates\, and community-building activities.    \nParticipants will deepen their understanding of political ecology\, explore pressing societal challenges through an EU lens\, strengthen their skills and competences in areas like rhetoric and debating\, and become part of The Greenhouse Community of Green European changemakers. \n  \nHighlights \n\nIn-depth exploration of our main theme “freedom” through the lens of political ecology \n\n\nPractical skill-building and action-planning sessions with a focus on political campaigning and debate\n\n\nA strong focus on collaboration\, peer-learning\, and a European perspective  \n\n\nOpportunities to connect with fellow activists and build lasting relationships across borders \n\n\nA dynamic\, empowering environment with specialized trainers and speakers \n\nAt GEF\, we believe that the European green movement is strongest when it is diverse\, inclusive\, and interconnected. This year’s Academy is crucial – unfolding at a moment when democracy across Europe is under an intensifying attack\, and urgent questions of resilience\, autonomy and collective action demand fresh thinking and alliances. \nAbout the event\nEurope enters 2026 facing a stark political reality. Democratic backsliding\, shrinking civic space\, geopolitical instability\, and the rise of hybrid and technological threats are reshaping the political landscape towards fear\, rollback\, and polarisation. Civil society is being systematically constrained: its autonomy reduced\, its legitimacy attacked\, and its role in democratic life eroded. SUMMARY:From Sustainability to Sufficiency - The Next Step for Cities
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Stockholm for a one-day workshop on urban sufficiency – the next step for cities beyond sustainability.\nMany European cities have made real progress on sustainability – cleaner air\, greener streets\, better mobility. But staying within planetary boundaries while ensuring a good life for all requires a deeper shift. Cities still consume too many resources\, and overconsumption by some creates scarcity for others. \nTaking place in Stockholm\, this one-day workshop will explore urban sufficiency*: a practical\, forward-looking approach to healthier\, more resilient and socially just cities.
