SUMMARY:Polish Views on Unconditional Basic Income (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nAfter earlier webinars introducing the general concept of UBI\, the European UBI\, and the achievements of the GEF in promoting this debate\, we discussed UBI pilots in Europe and elsewhere. \nThis time\, in partnership with the Polish Basic Income Network\, we will present UBI and similar concepts that are discussed in Poland and the prospects for implementing them in the country. \nContext:\nThe Green European Foundation has been working and researching the topic of UBI for a few years as part of a transnational project involving many countries. This year\, the project is entitled “CHANGE OF MINDSET. Civil society dialogue around UBI\, social justice and climate impact”. The Polish Green Foundation “Strefa Zieleni” joined the project\, recognising that it was time to start a public debate on this in Poland as well – not only on UBI itself but as part of a broader conversation: what social security system is best adapted to the needs and expectations of Polish society in times of great instability and turmoil? \nOn May 26th\, the webinar “With UBI we would be less afraid of coronavirus” opened a series of four online meetings on this topic\, organised by GEF with the support of Strefa Zieleni. Participants of the first webinar chose the topics of subsequent meetings\, the third of which is an overview of the Polish perspectives on UBI and prospects for implementation. \nSpeakers:\n\nDr hab. Ryszard Szarfenberg – Political scientist\, professor at the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Warsaw. Leader of the Polish Basic Income Network and active populariser of the concept of Unconditional Basic Income in Poland.\nDr Jacek Warda – Political scientist\, an expert in public management in local governments and author of the first Polish scientific article on the UBI: “Potential consequences of the implementation of a negative tax for the state’s social system” (2008). Member of the Polish Basic Income Network.\nDr Maciej Szlinder – doctor of humanities in the field of philosophy\, sociologist\, economist. Member of the Polish Basic Income Network\, Basic Income Earth Network\, Red Renta Básica. Author of the book “Unconditional basic income. A revolutionary reform of the society of the 21st century” (PWN\, 2018).\n\nModeration and comments by Ewa Sufin-Jacquemart and Wojciech Kłosowski. \nWe regret that the guest speakers of this particular webinar are all men\, as unfortunately\, the Polish Basic Income Network is an entirely male initiative. GEF and Strefa Zieleni are committed to hosting diverse and balanced events and have ensured that the next webinar in this series will be dominated by excellent female speakers. \nProgramme: \nThe webinar will start at 18:00 CEST with a short video produced by the UBI transnational project partners. \nPracticalities:\nThis webinar will take place in Polish for a Polish audience. It is open to anyone\, but please register using this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ecc1VTOBS0WdsayiiuGCag \nWe will use the Zoom video conferencing platform. It is recommended to join the webinar via a PC. You do not need to install additional software. However\, for the best user experience and full participation features\, we recommend installing the Zoom Desktop App\, which is free.

SUMMARY:Ecotransformation 2020 Summer School (Kostelec nad Černými lesy)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThe transition to a sustainable\, carbon-neutral future is a central theme of current European policy. Tackling the climate crisis – mitigating climate change and adapting to its inevitable effects – is one of the biggest challenges on this path. \nWe know how to do it. But can we convince others of that? Can we reach out to the important public and private partners and convince them that the transition to a sustainable economy is also in their interests? And does green politics go hand in hand with activism? \nIt turns out that we need to change the way we communicate on environmental issues. More and more people are aware of the threat of climate change\, but it is difficult for them to imagine how to deal with it effectively. They need to hear a new story. The story of how we can handle the crisis together. \nWe cordially invite all those who are interested in green policy and want to take an active part in promoting to Ecotransformation 2020\, a weekend full of interesting seminars\, debates\, presentations and experiential workshops grouped around several main topics: \n\nUrban climate crisis and what to do about it: how to transform our cities to be better prepared for climate change and to actively contribute to reducing emissions.\nTransforming the approach to landscape management: how to heal our landscape and increase its resilience to ongoing change.\nChanging ways of communicating the climate crisis and other environmental topics: using the knowledge of ecopsychology and the art of telling the story of positive change.\nTransformation of Czech ecological policy into a successful project – the role of activism\, inspiration from neighbouring countries.\n\n Speakers: \n\nCarmine Rodi – trainer\, facilitator and consultant\, an expert in communication skills\, public speaking and storytelling techniques.\nHelena Truchlá – editor of Aktuálně.cz\nOndráš Přibyla – founder of faktaoklimatu\nPetra Kolínská – Zelený kruh (association of Czech ecological NGOs)\nMartin Ander – Partnership Foundation (Nadace Partnerství)\nZuzana Pavelková – Federation of European Young Greens\n\nAdditional speakers may be announced. \nProgramme: \nThursday\, 23 July \nPublic debate: Million Moments for Climate \nFriday\, 24 July \nClimate change adaptation of cities \n\nThe new building law as one of the tools to solve the climate crisis? SUMMARY:What future for economic and monetary policy in the EU?
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nThis second installment of the joint series “Worldwide Pandemic\, European Responses” will look at the economic consequences of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and how it is shaping monetary and economic policies on the European level. \nThe event will discuss what the latest developments amidst this crisis could mean for the future of the EU. Will we see a further integration with a fiscal union following the monetary union? Or are those just extraordinary measures in extraordinary times\, and the ECB policy will face massive challenges again in the future as suggested by a landmark ruling of Germany’s Constitutional Court in early May? What are the risks and what are the opportunities of the EU directly borrowing money at the financial markets\, which would have to be paid back after the next long-term budget in 2027? What will this debt mean for the actual ‘next generation’ of the EU? Could this be a precedent for future crises to tackle and could an increased economic ‘firepower’ of the Commission revive public approval for the EU and its institutions? \nContext\nThe COVID-19 pandemic has brought life to a standstill across the globe and the resulting halt in production\, interrupted supply chains worldwide\, and a drop in consumption have plunged our economies into a severe crisis. Within the EU\, the countries hardest hit by the pandemic – Italy and Spain – were also among the member states that suffered most under the European debt crisis a decade ago. Immense efforts and support from financially stronger member states will be needed for their recovery. \nTo soften the economic and social fallout of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and after coordination and display of solidarity was initially lacking amidst the crisis\, the European Commission presented its proposal for a major recovery plan\, which includes a recovery fund entitled ‘Next Generation EU’ amounting to 750 billion euro alongside proposals to reinforce the long-term EU budget\, the Multi-Annual Financial Framework 2021-2027\, as well as an adjustment of its own work programme for the year 2020\, prioritising recovery and resilience. Additionally\, the European Central Bank announced in early June that it would boost its emergency support programme by 600 billion euro to 1.35 trillion euro. The support from the ECB comes on top of up to 540 billion euro in financial aid from Eurozone governments that includes credit lines from the euro bailout fund as well as the above-mentioned proposal by the European Commission. \n  \nSpeakers\n\nErnest Urtasun\, Member of the European Parliament Greens/EFA and member of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament\nGabriele Michalitsch\, economist & political scientist\, lecturer at Vienna and Klagenfurt University & guest professor in Beijing\, Budapest and Istanbul\nThierry Philipponnat\, Head of research & advocacy at Finance Watch\n\nModeration: Jennifer Baker\, Freelance EU Correspondent \nThe event will be live streamed on Facebook and YouTube.

SUMMARY:Public Health and Societal Resilience: what role for the EU?
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nWhich role will public health spending play within the Next Generation EU budget and the MFF 2021-2027\, and how are those two interlinked? How can the general resilience of the EU and its members be strengthened\, in light of other crises such as the climate crisis? \nContext\nThis pandemic has exposed the fragility of the European Union as it led to uncoordinated\, divergent approaches by the European Union’s member states\, and the timidity of any solidarity between member states has prompted many citizens to question the general purpose of the European Union\, particularly in times of crisis. \nOne of the reasons for the lack of coordination certainly lies in the fact that healthcare remains a competence of the member states. Although the EU’s role should be complementary to the member states’ policies\, taking on a coordination role in the case of serious cross-border health risks\, the individualistic approaches by the EU governments and the lack of information sharing about them made such coordination nearly impossible at the beginning of the pandemic. \nAs most member states are slowly easing lockdown measures with daily infection rates and casualties fortunately decreasing\, the EU seems to slowly find its role in the crisis – having recently unveiled an unprecedented financial package as part of the European Commission’s recovery plan. It is underlined that one of the pillars of this budget will be to learn from the lessons of this crisis and hence rolls out a new Health programme (EU4Health) as well as increased resources for the EU’s disaster response rescEU. \nBack in April\, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen suggested in an interview to combine the green deal climate plan with a “white deal” for healthcare\, coined so subsequently by the media as white is usually the colour associated with healthcare. As the Commission is proposing\, alongside the recovery package\, to reinforce the EU long-term budget 2021-2027 and allow within it more flexibility\, this could potentially mean that a substantial amount is being ring-fenced for healthcare spending. \nSpeakers\n\nPetra de Sutter\, Member of the European Parliament for the Greens/EFA group & Chair of the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection\nIngrid Keller\, from unit Crisis management and preparedness in health at the European Commission\n\nModerated by: Sarantis Michalopoulos\, Network Editor EurActiv \n  \nThe event will be live streamed on Facebook and Youtube.

SUMMARY:Between Theory and Practice – Experiments of Basic Income (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nReflections and specific experiments have been ongoing for many years in the search for systemic solutions to provide people with the opportunity to meet basic life needs in times of instability\, exacerbated amid junk contracts\, rapid climate change and structural inequalities. Unconditional basic income is one such form\, tested by certain public authorities\, but also by non-governmental and research organisations\, both in so-called developed countries as well as some countries of the global South. \nThis webinar focuses on the experiences of basic income in several countries – their goals and results\, but also the political context of each case. A more general academic comparative view will complete a political and activist approach. We invited a European university researcher examining UBI experiments\, their political and social context and overtones\, but also a Kenyan Green politician from a so-called developing country where innovative social policies have been pursued both by the authorities and through the experiments of social aid and research organisations. \nContext:\nThe Green European Foundation has been working and conducting research on the topic of UBI for a few years as part of a transnational project involving many countries. This year\, the project is entitled “CHANGE OF MINDSET. Civil society dialogue around UBI\, social justice and climate impact”. \nOn May 26th\, the webinar “With UBI we would be less afraid of coronavirus” opened a series of four meetings on this topic\, organised by GEF and with the support of Strefa Zieleni. Participants of the first webinar chose the topics of subsequent meetings\, the first of which is an exploration of unconditional basic income experiments and derived social policy solutions in various countries. \nSpeakers:\n\nJurgen De Wispelaere – policy fellow at the Institute for Policy Research (University of Bath) and a visiting scholar at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.\nMartin Ogindo – Party leader of the Green Congress of Kenya.\nModeration and comments by Ewa Sufin-Jacquemart and Wojciech Kłosowski.\n\nPracticalities:\nThis is an open event accessible to an international audience. English-Polish translation will be provided. \nWe will use the Zoom video conferencing platform. It is recommended to join the webinar via a PC. You don’t need to install additional software. SUMMARY:GEF to present in the Online Ariadne Network-UNHCR Joint event on Climate Change and Forced Migration!
DESCRIPTION:Context:\nThe Ariadne Network-UNHCR event aims to raise awareness among philanthropic foundations and seek increasingly innovative and holistic solutions to address the rising challenge of protecting refugees\, internally displaced persons\, and other persons of concern in the era of climate change. \nThe key issues to be discussed are: \n\nHow does climate change\, often combined with conflict\, drive people from their homes?\nHow can foundations support relevant and innovative programmes to deal with the aftermaths of these events? What about anticipatory action\, prevention\, adaptation and mitigation? How can they help build resilience in the long-term so people can stay and/or return?\nLinking these debates with the broader European and international policy agendas\, the event will also look at how foundations can also support civil society advocacy on this topic to improve both policies and practices.\n GEF participation in first session: Climate Change and forced migration: what do European foundations need to know? (14h-15:30h)\n\nCarlotta Weber\, GEF’s Strategy Manager\, and Caroline Zickgraf\, the Deputy Head of Liege University’s Hugo Observatory on Environment\, Migration and Politics\, will contextualise the EU-level discussions and considerations regarding climate-related forced migration\, while presenting some of GEF’s work in this field as well as exploring recent academic developments in the field of mobility and immobility. \nThe other presenters include: \n\nAndrew Harper\, Special Advisor on Climate Action\, UNHCR\nAlex Randall\, Programme Manager\, Climate Migration Coalition\n\n  \nThe discussion will be moderated by Saskia Baar\, PSP Officer\, UNHCR\, with questions to be taken from the audience. \nThis is a closed event\, not open to the public.

SUMMARY:Green Post-Corona Talks with Bram Van Braeckevelt and Robert Fletcher
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 crisis has led to closed borders and brought international travel to a halt and thereby dramatically impacted the tourism industry across the world. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) warns that “the impact on tourism enterprises and workers\, the majority being young women\, is unprecedented.” Within the EU\, some of the hardest hit countries by the pandemic\, such as Spain and Italy\, are heavily relying on their tourism industry flourishing. \nAt the same time\, with the almost complete suspension of international air travel\, record low emissions and in many tourist hot spots a partial recovery of the environment (e.g. water quality in Venice) could be observed. \nThe World Tourism Organization launched the campaign #TravelTomorrow earlier this year. While it underlines the importance of tourism as one of the key drivers of international (economic) recovery\, it also aims to highlight the need for a more sustainable approach to international travel as an effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. \nWith most inner European borders opening again as of mid-June just in time for the summer holidays\, the question arises whether the COVID-19 crisis can be a second chance for sustainable tourism that considers and tries to reverse the detrimental social and environmental impacts of tourism. Is a real transformation of the industry towards low or zero carbon intensity possible? \n\n\n\nJoin our Facebook event to stay alert for the live stream.\n  \n\n \n\n\nAbout the event\n  \nThe ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is having a grip on societies worldwide and will impact our lives long after the crisis is overcome. It is clear that we cannot continue with “business as usual\,” but that we need to discuss positive ideas and concepts for a better\, greener future and resilient societies now. \nGEF is therefore hosting the Green Post-Corona Talks\, a series of participatory online discussions with high-level experts\, thinkers\, and policy-makers\, and the opportunity for participants to pose their most pressing questions to them live. \nThe talks will highlight what is currently at stake in the Corona crisis but also look beyond the period of the pandemic\, and what possible solutions are already out there and can lend themselves to design the post-corona world. \nThe series will cover different themes from economy\, over migration to gender\, and bring in inspiring perspectives from all across Europe. \nThe project is implemented in cooperation with Oikos. \n\n  \nYou can help us advancing forward-looking green ideas\nto shape the Europe that we want! \n  \nWe rely on your generous contribution to continue putting together new\, exciting Green Post-Corona Talks made extensively available to the general European public! So\, please consider making a donation today\, by clicking on this link.

SUMMARY:Public Values and Technology in the Corona Crisis
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThe Green European Foundation and the Green Economics Institute are delighted to invite you to a webinar on smart cities in corona times. All over Europe\, municipalities want to become ‘smart cities’\, front-runners in the use of sensors\, big data\, algorithms and apps. Smart technologies offer opportunities for improving the quality of life in cities\, for reducing their ecological footprint and for creating new urban commons. But they may also present threats to civil liberties and to social justice. The smart city should not be an end in itself. A smart city is only really smart if data collection and artificial intelligence are steered by values. How do we ensure that public values such as democracy\, human dignity\, privacy\, equality and sustainability are put at the heart of smart cities? \nThis webinar will gather experts\, practitioners\, activists and (local) politicians. The online discussions will cover two mornings. Participants can choose to take part in one session or in both sessions. The webinar takes the Green European Foundation’s Charter for the Smart City as a starting point. The results of the webinar will feed into the online version of the Charter. \nSpeakers:\nFriday: \n\nRichard Wouters – Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks\, project leader A Charter for the Smart City. (Netherlands)\nProf. Maria Madi – Specialist in the Digital Economy and Innovation Philosophy. (Portugal/Brazil)\n\nSaturday: \n\nMonika Sobiecki – Barrister specialising in Digital Technology\, Data and AI Law; senior associate in a Privacy and Cybersecurity team. (United Kingdom)\nDr. Vandana Shiva – Scholar\, environmental activist\, food sovereignty advocate\, and anti-globalization author; Founder of the Research Foundation for Science\, Technology and Ecology. (India)\nDorothy Nalubega – Minority rights activist\, feminist\, and environmentalist; African Coordinator for the Global Greens Women’s Network and Chairperson of the East African Greens Women’s Network. (Uganda)\nNatalie Louise Bennett – Former leader of the Green Party of England and Wales; member of the UK House of Lords; specialist in Mass Communication and former editor of The Guardian Weekly. (United Kingdom)\nEwa Sufin-Jacquemart – Director of the Green Polish foundation “Strefa Zieleni”\, writes for the Green journal „Zielone Wiadomości”\, and coordinator of the Green Centre of the Congress of Women. (Poland)\n\nProgramme: \nJune 19th 11:00 – 13:00 \n\n\n\nPresentation of the Charter for the Smart City\, value-led development of technology and its relevance in times of corona by Richard Wouters (Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks\, NL)\, followed by discussion.\nPresentation and discussion on digital surveillance. Will the corona crisis take the surveillance of citizens and workers to new heights? Can and should we counter this tendency? Is there a role for local politics?\n\n\n\nJune 20th 11:00 – 13:00 \n\n\n\nPresentation and discussion on digital innovations. The corona crisis has given a boost to the digitalisation of work\, commerce\, education and social life. How do we deal with the socio-economic inequalities which arise from this? Can we prevent Big Tech from becoming even more powerful? What role for local politics?\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresentation and discussion on a Green New Deal. The economic crisis and the climate crisis must be tackled simultaneously. Does this create new opportunities for green technologies? What role for local politics?\n\n\n\nPracticalities:\nPlatform \nWe will use the Zoom video conferencing platform. It is recommended to join the webinar via a PC. You do not need to install additional software. However\, for the best user experience and full participation features\, we recommend to install the Zoom Desktop App\, which is free. \nRegistration \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but advance registration is required. You can register via the GEI website\, via Eventbrite\, or by emailing info@geiconferences.org. \nPlease consider making a donation to enable the Green Economics Institute\, a not for profit\, to continue its work. The suggested donation is around £25.00 per person. \nPreparation \nThe Charter for the Smart City is available on the website of the Green European Foundation. Click here to download. \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation and the Green Economics Institute\, with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:Green Post-Corona Talks with Özge Kara\, Michael Piccinino\, Adélaïde Charlier\, Jada Kennedy
DESCRIPTION:The talk wants to address intergenerational solidarity in the light of the COVID-19 crisis but also how the pandemic is specifically affecting young people – from implications on their mobility or exercise of rights\, to of course how the economic crisis will especially impact youth unemployment and precarity. \nWith the recovery package recently presented by the von der Leyen Commission being entitled “Next Generation EU”\, the discussion will also shed a light on how the recovery of the EU and its economy can be ensured with without leaving the young generation behind\, and how a more ambitious climate policy must be at the core of that. \n\n\n\nJoin our Facebook event to stay alert for the live stream.\n  \n\n \n\n\nAbout the event\n  \nThe ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is having a grip on societies worldwide and will impact our lives long after the crisis is overcome. SUMMARY:Just Transition: a chance for cooperation between social and environmental movements
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nWith their demand for a Just Transition\, trade unions point out the importance of sufficient and decent jobs. The phase-out or conversion of fossil fuel-based industries requires the creation of new and decent jobs in climate neutral economic activities. This focus on the social dimension of transition has been picked up well in recent years by environmental and climate movements. New forms of cooperation are emerging\, such as in the Netherlands in the context of the Climate Tables and in Belgium around a joint position on the future of aviation. This can strengthen civil society as such\, and in its role of driving the transition to a socio-ecological society. \nIn this second webinar of our Just Transition series\, we will delve further into this topic with two experts from the social and environmental movements. \nContext:\nThe Just Transition project has as its aim to inspire and inform citizens about the implications of a just transition to a highly sustainable economy\, which involves more than technical measures. We need a new economic system that cares for people and the planet\, in which all costs and benefits are fairly distributed. How do we sustainably transform our labour market? How do we make sure the transition to renewables is inclusive and equitable? These are some of the questions we try to answer. \nSpeakers:\nKitty Jong (Director at FNV\, the biggest Dutch labour union federation) \nMathias Bienstman (Policy Coordinator at Bond Beter Leefmilieu\, a Flemish network-organisation facilitating the transition to a more sustainable society and circular economy) \nPracticalities:\nThis is an open webinar. Please register here to receive an event reminder and further details on how to join in. \n  \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Oikos Think Tank and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. SUMMARY:Green-Red Dialogues: Green Answers to the Health and Climate Crisis
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nThe first Green-Red Dialogue will address key issues such as health\, basic income and the economy. \nWhat health model allows us to face possible future pandemics? The European Union is diverse\, and the member states have faced the crisis from different health models\, which have proven to be more effective in this fight against the COVID-18? How can we work to make the health system of the member countries more efficient and inclusive? \nThis is a health crisis that today\, more than ever\, cannot be addressed without taking into account the link with the climate crisis. The model of consumption is linked to agri-food exploitation\, which also causes the deforestation of the planet and in turn has consequences for our health. Should we ignore the fact that the macro animal farms have something to do with the origin of the COVID-19? And what about the air we breathe? How does it influence our health\, our defences\, and the increased vulnerability to severe symptoms of the coronavirus? \nContext:\nThis event is part of the Green Red Dialogues. The main purpose of this series of talks is to reflect on current issues from a green and social perspective. At a time when we have to face the global challenges as a result of COVID-19\, it is important to reflect on a green way out of the crisis. \nSpeakers:\nSka Keller\, Co-President of Greens/EFA in the European Parliament \nJoan Herrera\, lawyer and politician\, former leader of Iniciativa per Catalunya \nModerator: Marc Rius\, Director of Fundació Nous Horitzons \nProgramme: \n18h00 Opening words by Marc Rius \n18h05 Contribution from Ska Keller \n18h20 Contribution from Joan Herrera \n18h35 Q&A \n19h00 Final round of closing words \n19h15 End \nPracticalities:\nThe primary language of the event is Catalan. \nThis event will be livestreamed on the YouTube channel of Fundació Nous Horitzons. \n\nThis event is organised by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

SUMMARY:With UBI\, We Would Be Less Afraid of the Coronavirus Crisis (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event:\nWe would like to invite you to the first edition of a series of four webinars on the topic of universal basic income (UBI). This event series is organised for by the Green European Foundation\, with the support of Fundacja Strefa Zieleni\, and a grassroots initiative of Polish activists: “Community of Ideas”. It consists of two Polish and two international webinars. \nOne feature of our current unsustainable system is the massive\, and rapidly growing\, increase in inequalities – emphasizing feelings of insecurity and material instability for a growing share of the population\, and especially among young people. \nEven in the “old Europe” countries\, with some of the most caring welfare state systems in the world\, the growing trends of precarious work and increasing workforce poverty have grown too much to be thought of as marginal. The overwhelming feeling of social injustice often leads either to social unrest\, like with the yellow vest movement in France\, or to the development of populism and political authoritarianism\, which we can observe\, among other places\, in Poland. \nThe past few years have seen research and some practical experiments in search of systemic answers to enable people to meet their basic needs – in times of structural inequalities and instability\, due in part to this spread of precarious work and the destructive consequences of rapid climate change. The universal basic income (UBI) is one of the solutions on the table. \nIn this webinar\, we take a look at the existing work GEF has done on UBI\, where these ideas come from\, and what they are based on. We will also discuss why this is a “green” concept\, consistent with “green policy\,” have an overview of the UBI reflections and experiments in different countries\, and address its critics. Finally\, we touch on GEF’s continuing research plans on the topic and go over the present efforts to introduce a pan-European basic income and other social security measures at the EU level. \nContext:\nThe Green European Foundation has been working and conducting research on the topic of UBI for a few years as part of a transnational project involving many countries. This year\, the project is entitled “CHANGE OF MINDSET. Civil society dialogue around UBI\, social justice and climate impact”. The Polish Green Foundation “Strefa Zieleni” joined the project\, recognizing that it was time to start a public debate on this in Poland as well – not only on UBI itself\, but as part of a broader conversation: what social security system is best adapted to the needs and expectations of Polish society in times of great instability and turmoil? \nSpeakers:\nFrançois Denuit is an adviser to the Co-President of the Greens/EFA group in the EP Philippe Lamberts and scientific collaborator at the Université libre de Bruxelles. He wrote his PhD dissertation on the idea of a pan-European unconditional basic income. \nSusanne Rieger is a Co-President of the GEF Board of Directors and a board member of the Catalan Green foundation\, Fundació Nous Horitzons (FNH). Susanne has been working on topics such as political education\, capacity building\, as well as developing political and public discussions and communication structures on the European level for the past twenty years. \nWojciech Kłosowski is an expert\, researcher\, activist\, author\, lecturer and practitioner of social issues\, local governance and social policy of cities. Wojciech is a founding member of the Zieloni 2004 party (today: Partia Zieloni). \nModerator :  \nEwa Sufin-Jacquemart is the director of the Fundacja Strefa Zieleni\, a member of the GEF Board of Directors and coordinator of the Green Center of the Congress of Women. \nProgramme: \n18:00 – 19:30 \n\nWelcome\nPresentation by Susanne Rieger\nPresentation by François Denuit\nSummary and comments (in Polish) by Wojciech Kłosowski\nDiscussion\n\nPracticalities:\nThis is an open event\, aimed at an international audience. English-Polish translation will be provided. \nPlease use the following link to join the webinar (joining the webinar is preceded by registration). \nWhen joining the webinar\, you will have to complete a short registration form – so make sure to tune in early! \nIf you would like to read more about some of GEF’s existing work on UBI\, please refer to the following publications: \n\nBasic Social Security 2030 (published in January 2020)\nEuropean Green Perspectives on Basic Income (published in February 2019)\n\n\nThis project is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Fundacja Strefa Zieleni and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.
