DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nIn the framework of the Idea Challenge\, the Green European Foundation invited young people aged 16 – 24 from Croatia\, Czechia and Portugal to submit their ideas which aims to make their own neighborhood or a local community more open\, democratic\, inclusive\, and ultimately European. 3 winner ideas from the three countries were selected and are now on the way of implementing their projects. \nAbout the event\nMonika – 19 years old high school student is set to film a short documentary\, based on a case study from Czechia. SUMMARY:Towards a Local Healthy Food Distribution System (Brno)
DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nThis roundtable discussion will be held as part of the GEF transnational project Fair and Healthy Food\, which aims to bring together different actors within the food system to find alternative solutions and support positive changes to the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union. \nAbout the Event\nThe participants of this roundtable discussion will include important stakeholders in local food distribution systems\, including local farmers\, sellers\, NGOs\, politicians and community representatives. \nThe discussion will focus on how to promote the emergence of a sustainable system of production and distribution of healthy and organic local food in the southern Czech region of Moravia. \nThe experience of local farmers and producers and the barriers they face will be presented in the form of the results of a survey that GEF together with Institute for Active Citizenship has been conducting among them in Czech Republic throughout the past months. SUMMARY:Climate Emergency – Raising Ambition (London)
DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nWith the consequences of climate change beinng increasingly perceptible through extreme weather events (both worldwide and in European countries)\, verifiable research is urgently needed to set targets and policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the amount necessary to secure a livable environment. At the same time\, policies to reduce greenhouse emissions are often attacked for threatening existing jobs.  \nGEF’s transnational project “Strengthening Climate Targets\, Creating Local Climate Jobs” sets out to explore what greenhouse emissions reductions would mean in practical terms for our job markets and economies\, and whether jobs could be created in rural areas across Europe. Can both a safe and just economically sound life for all be achieved? They are organising a treasure hunt for young residents of the city – connecting various landmarks with European topics\, as well as embedding interesting facts about the EU\, within the context of Varaždin history and culture. DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nGreen European Foudnation partner Cooperation and Development Network Eastern\, alongside Alternative Urbanisation Working Group\, are announcing a call for Participants for the summer school “Youth and the City: Young People for Fair and Green Cities”. \nThe Summer School aims to conceptualise and promote the model of sustainable and democratic cities among active young people in the Central and Eastern Europe and provide them with tools for reclaiming their cities. \nThe aims and objectives of the project are: \n\nTo create a space for youth to discuss the concept and role of Alternative Urbanisation in shaping the future of the cities;\nTo empower young people to use the city as a platform for doing local\, Green and alternative politics;\nTo create a toolkit of positive practices and methods of influencing politics on a very local level.\n\nPracticalities\nThe event will take place from 5th to 9th of August in Prague ( 4th and 10th are travel dates to and from Prague.) \nLanguage: The main language of this activity will be English. But not being comfortable interacting in English should not prevent you from applying\, the majority at the event will be non-native speakers and the group will be able to help out if there is some term you might not know! \nCosts: The full cost of working materials\, visa and lodging (accommodation in multi-bed rooms\, vegetarian food\, and refreshments) during the event will be covered by the organizers. SUMMARY:Hackathon on Social Rights at FYEG Summer Camp (Serbia)
DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nSummer Camp & GEF Hackathon \nGreen European Foundation partner Federation of Young European Greens is organising the Summer Camp “Our Social Rights – Our Future!” that will take place from 22 – 28 July 2019 in Serbia. GEF will support the Summer Camp and organise a hackathon that will take place on 25 and 26 July. \nThe summer camp will consist of five full days exploring different tools and platforms Young Greens can use to campaign and advocate for social rights. Participants will leave the summer camp with practical skills to use and share in their local contexts and on European level. \nThe aims of the summer camp are: \n\nTo understand how social rights apply to specific topics – including regional specificities\, a just transition towards a sustainable society\, and gender aspects.\nTo determine which tools to use for a campaign/advocacy depending on the cause and context\, and how to apply these tools with limited resources.\nTo equip participants with the skills needed to carry out hackathons in their local regions.\n\nAbout the Event\nHackathon – an intense\, sprint-like\, goal-oriented\, small teamwork-based activity. Hackathon is a period of 36h when participants can plan\, design and carry out their own mini-projects in small teams. The teams will be composed of young people – participants and guests – with different skills and backgrounds: activists\, young advocates\, lawyers\, and programmers. \nProgramme\nThe programme will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. We strive for an active\, inclusive environment for direct communication and sharing of knowledge. The summer camp will balance the dynamism of the hackathon with interactive discussions and reflections for participants to develop their practical and theoretical knowledge of social rights in an supportive and informal environment. \nParticipants will already be familiar with social rights and issues facing young people through the other activities of the summer camp. \nThe participants will identify their particular interests and choose one problem that they want to find a solution for. Forming teams of three-four\, they will spend the next 40 hours designing an innovative solution to their chosen problem. \nThe session will start with a small teambuilding and sharing expectations excercise\, as well as determining routine and agreeing breaks amongst the teams. \nThe hackathon will be participant-led\, with monitoring from the prep-team who can offer guidance where needed. \nThe goal of the hackathon is to not necessarily have a concrete solution to the challenge posed\, but to have developed ideas in how to approach the issues and work collectively and creatively towards solutions. DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nThe fifth Green Summer Academy in Poland will take place 20km from the Odra River\, a  natural border between Poland and Germany\, near the two towns on the both sides of the river: Słubice in Poland and Frankfurt / Oder in Germany. \nThe Academy is set against the new political reality following the European Parliament elections\, in which the Greens became the fourth largest force in the Parliament. At the same time\, right-wing and conservative\, authoritarian forces were highly successful in Poland and Hungary. \nIn Poland\, pro-democracy and European opposition are preparing for national parliamentary elections in October. On a global context\, we are facing crises in the form of climate change\, biodiversity extinction\, natural resource depletion\, pollution\, growing inequalities and rising nationalism. \nOn the other end of the spectrum\, we are seeing citizens mobilising across the world\, with initiatives at every level rising to meet these crises. DESCRIPTION:The Project \nThe UX design expert will be responsible for providing an analysis of the current Green European Journal website and for making recommendations to improve the user experience. The Green European Journal has identified its homepage\, user journeys between articles\, categorisation\, and certain specific content types as areas for potential improvement. The UX design expert will have access to qualitative and quantitative data for their analysis. The recommendations should:  \n\nKeep users on site and encourage them to move between articles \n\n\nMake the most of the range of content and formats that the Green European Journal offers \nEncourage users to return to the site \nEncourage users to sign up to the newsletter \nEncourage users to subscribe to or purchase the edition \nOffer a range of options and identify strengths and weaknesses of different approaches \n\nThe objective is not a full redesign of the website\, the UX design expert is expected to work from the current design basis and make recommendations in line with the current products and mission of the Green European Journal.   \nThe final deliverable for the UX design expert will be agreed by both parties at the outset of the project. The project will take place in September 2019 and will involve multiple meetings to present the UX design analysis and move to recommendations so the service provider must be able to deliver in that period. DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nAs part of the transnational project Fair and Healthy Food\, GEF aims to reach different actors and bring them together to explore alternative solutions and reforms to the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy and how to redesign food systems around agroecological principles. \nAlongside exploring examples of cities developing their own outstanding food policies\, the project will also examine how regional sustainable food systems can revitalise rural communities. \nAbout the Event\nRising public concern around climate change and biodiversity loss has led to increasing attention on our food system as both a cause but also a potential contributing solution to environmental breakdown. While efforts are underway to reform European food and agricultural policies in order to better protect nature and rural livelihoods\, growing numbers of people are becoming actively involved in reshaping food systems at local level. \nSuch efforts are demonstrating a creative resurgence of ideas and practices of how we can recover the multidimensional values of food as a public good rather than allow it to remain as a means for private corporate profit\, and to help reduce our own personal environmental footprint and retrieve some control over our food supply. \nThe event proposes that food is not only a vital source of personal well-being but offers a route toward greater citizen engagement. DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nIn the framework of the Idea Challenge\, the Green European Foundation invited young people aged 16 – 24 from Croatia\, Czechia and Portugal to submit their ideas which aim to make their own neighborhood or local community more open\, democratic\, inclusive\, and ultimately European. Three winning ideas from the three countries were selected and are now in the process of implementing their projects. \nAbout the event\nThis project by João – 23 years old Aquatic Science student from Porto\, pulls together technological\, social and environmental dimensions\, as he will build an aquarium integrated with a floating island at the Porto Escola Básica Augusto Gil high school . \nThe installation of the aquarium will involve Marine and Biotechnology Science students and the students of the high school. The aquarium intends to raise awareness about freshwater ecosytems\, which are particularly vulnerable to climate change: many species within these fragmented habitats have limited abilities to disperse as the environment changes;  water temperature and availability are climate-dependent;  many systems are already exposed to numerous anthropogenic stressors. \nThe aquarium will be inaugurated over June 5th & 6th\, on World Environment Day and in the run-up to World Oceans Day. Students will receive presentations on climate change and Portuguese freshwater fish\, presented by João and Dr. Cristina Calheiros.  The students will also have the opportunity to help in the installation of plants in the aquarium and learn more about how it works. \n\nFor updates on the the activity\, follow our Facebook and Instagram accounts.

DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nGreen European Foudnation partner Cooperation and Development Network Eastern\, alongside Alternative Urbanisation Working Group\, are announcing a call for Participants for the summer school “Youth and the City: Young People for Fair and Green Cities”. \nThe Summer School aims to conceptualise and promote the model of sustainable and democratic cities among active young people in the Central and Eastern Europe and provide them with tools for reclaiming their cities. \nThe aims and objectives of the project are: \n\nTo create a space for youth to discuss the concept and role of Alternative Urbanisation in shaping the future of the cities;\nTo empower young people to use the city as a platform for doing local\, Green and alternative politics;\nTo create a toolkit of positive practices and methods of influencing politics on a very local level.\n\nWho should apply?\nWe are looking for 20 young people aged 16-35\, residing in Central and Eastern Europe (Albania\, Armenia\, Azerbaijan\, Belarus\, Bosnia and Herzegovina\, Bulgaria\, Croatia\, Czech Republic\, Cyprus\, Estonia\, Georgia\, Greece\, Hungary\, Kosovo*\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Moldova\, Montenegro\, North Macedonia\, Poland\, Russia\, Serbia\, Slovakia\, Slovenia\, Turkey\, Ukraine). \nWe encourage applications reflecting diversity in all forms; therefore we welcome applications from those who identify as women\, LGBTQIA+\, POC\, migration background\, or with a different ability. \nParticipants who have activism experience in working on the rights for the city and/or urban planning and policy making and with relevant knowledge or high motivation to learn about the topic are highly encouraged to apply. \nPracticalities\nThe event will take place from 5th to 9th of August in Prague ( 4th and 10th are travel dates to and from Prague.) \nLanguage: The main language of this activity will be English. DESCRIPTION:The Green European Foundation (GEF) is a Brussels-based European level political foundation funded by the European Parliament and affiliated to the European Green Party and Green Group in the European Parliament. Our mission is to encourage European citizens to participate in European political discussions. As a forum for cooperation at European level\, we work closely with our national member foundations and thereby aim to strenghten the Green network in Europe. \nOur annual work programme focuses on three main areas: \n\nStudy & Debate: we invest in research\, debates and seminars on a variety of European topics\, highlighting innovative Green approaches. The results are disseminated through both printed publications and online articles\, raising awareness among citizens about Green solutions to the challenges Europe faces.\nCapacity-building: we promote political education and training and provide opportunities for building capacity amongst Green-minded stakeholders across Europe. SUMMARY:Call for Participants: Summer Camp: “Our Social Rights - Our Future!”
DESCRIPTION:Summer Camp & GEF Hackathon\nGreen European Foundation partner Federation of Young European Greens is announcing an open call for participants in the Summer Camp “Our Social Rights – Our Future!” that will take place from 22 – 28 July 2019 in Serbia. GEF will support the Summer Camp and organise a hackathon that will take place on 25 and 26 July.  \nThe summer camp will consist of five full days exploring different tools and platforms Young Greens can use to campaign and advocate for social rights. Participants will leave the summer camp with practical skills to use and share in their local contexts and on European level. \nThe aims of the summer camp are: \n\nTo understand how social rights apply to specific topics – including regional specificities\, a just transition towards a sustainable society\, and gender aspects.\nTo determine which tools to use for a campaign/advocacy depending on the cause and context\, and how to apply these tools with limited resources.\nTo equip participants with the skills needed to carry out hackathons in their local regions.\n\nProgramme\nThe five days will be divided into three parts: \n\nOpening of the event; sharing and building upon the conclusions from “Social Europe Now!’’ – a seminar that identified the struggles young people from various regions of Europe face today in relation to housing\, education and healthcare as well as having fostered development of a common vision for the future of work.\nHackathon – an intense\, sprint-like\, goal-oriented\, small teamwork-based activity. Hackathon is a period of 36h when participants can plan\, design and carry out their own mini-projects in small teams. The teams will be composed of young people – participants and guests – with different skills and backgrounds: activists\, young advocates\, lawyers\, and programmers.\nCreating a Toolkit for a Hackathon on Social Rights: based on our common experience of running and taking a part in a social rights hackathon\, we will create a toolkit for those who are going to organise one back home in the autumn 2019\n\nThe summer camp will be a fast pace\, interactive experience of Young Greens creating campaigns together to make social rights a reality for all. Participants will also learn how to create their own FYEG-supported hackathons in their local regions in autumn 2019. \nThe programme will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. We strive for an active\, inclusive environment for direct communication and sharing of knowledge. The summer camp will balance the dynamism of the hackathon with interactive discussions and reflections for participants to develop their practical and theoretical knowledge of social rights in an supportive and informal environment. \nApplications\nApplications are open to all young people inspired by fighting for social rights and green ideology. FYEG encourages applications reflecting diversity in all forms; therefore we welcome applications from those who identify as women*\, LGBTQIA+\, people of colour\, or with a disability or other health impairment. \nThe “Our Social Rights – Our Future!” Summer Camp is the second activity of FYEG’s Reclaim Your Social Rights! project\, supported by the European Youth Foundation of Council of Europe. The hackathon that will take place on 25 and 26 July and is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of the FYEG and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the GEF. \nPracticalities:\nParticipants: FYEG is looking for 50 young people aged between 16-35\, residing in one of the Council of Europe member states\, Belarus or Kosovo*. \nLanguage: The main language of this activity will be English. But not being comfortable in interacting in English should not prevent you from applying\, as FYEG will look into translation options for the event. \nCosts: The full cost of working materials\, visa and lodging (accommodation in multi-bed rooms\, vegetarian food\, and refreshments) during the event will be covered by the organisers. In exchange\, FYEG asks for a participation fee of 40 EUR for participants coming from non-EU countries and 60 EUR for participants coming from EU countries\, Norway\, Switzerland\, and Iceland. Applicants for whom paying this fee is an obstacle for participation\, should still apply and mention this in their application. FYEG will try to find a solution together with the applicant after the selection is finalised. \nFYEG will reimburse 70% of travel costs for the participants coming from the EU countries\, Iceland\, Norway and Switzerland and 90% for the participants from the non-EU Eastern European countries within reasonable limits and within Europe\, with the condition to combine the most economic and environmentally friendly way (lowest price + travel time + CO2 emissions). \nDEADLINE for submitting online applications: 29 May 2019 at Midnight CET.
