We understand that equipping them with the right knowledge and skills is crucial in an ever-changing world and complex political environment. The vision behind Green Learning is to combine different methods and learning styles\, and to allow for meaningful conversations to take place across borders. \nAfter building expertise with its first e-course Impact Europe\, which attracted nearly 1500 learners\, the Green European Foundation will launch at the European Green Party Council Green Learning\, a capacity-building website which brings together e-courses in multiple languages\, webinars\, training events and much more. \nIf you want to hear the story of a new tool that redefines how greens campaign\, educate\, counter hate speech or win\, join our inspiring workshop. \nSpeakers\nIoana Banach\, Deputy Director\, Green European Foundation \nIoana Banach works as Deputy Director at the Green European Foundation\, which is the political foundation affiliated to but independent from the European Green Party and Green Group in the European Parliament. \nIoana has worked for 8 years in non-profit and political organisations in Romania\, Switzerland\, the Netherlands and Belgium\, specialising in education and capacity building programmes\, as well as health policies. For the past 6 years\, she has been engaged in developing online courses for training thousands of learners from over 40 countries. \nGio Megrelishvili\, Web & Digital Media Officer\, Green European Foundation \nGio Megrelishvili has been with the Green European Foundation over a year\, previously handing the foundation’s external communications and currently assuming the role of a Web & Digital Media Officer. DESCRIPTION:This training is a part of our transnational project “European Green Activists Training”\, and will provide opportunities for 25 participants to learn more about the institutions of the European Union\, Green politics and sustainable development policies.  \nAs an additional element of this training\, the participants will gain an exclusive access to our online course IMPACT EUROPE – which will enhance their critical understanding of the European Union\, provide them with an analytical overview of the Green movement in the context of contemporary politics at the European level\, as well as with insights into ways of generating political impact as a European citizen.  \nThe second EU Session \nThe Green European Foundation will contribute with a special session with the focus on Europe\, the EU and the Greens between 20 November and 1 December 2018 in Jyväskylä.  \nProgramme \nThe second EU training will focus on regional EU policies\, introducing German municipal politics from a local perspective. SUMMARY:Shaping the Energy Sector in Europe (Athens)
DESCRIPTION:CONTEXT\nThis conference is part of the Green European Foundation Energy Democracy transnational project\, which aims to explore the potential of an energy transition for Europe and how to shape this process in a democratic\, participatory way. \nEurope has to change its energy system into a fully renewable one to transition to a sustainable economy and to establish a real climate policy. This is a major challenge for every Member State of the European Union\, but will only succeed if the states work to together. \nEuropean citizens are already playing an active role\, together with governments at different levels\, as they are organising themselves in national energy cooperatives and also the European Federation REScoop. \nStudies show that by 2050\, around 45% of all EU households could be producing their own renewable energy\, and more than a third could come through renewable energy cooperatives. This constitutes a huge opportunity for regional economic development\, as locally-owned renewable energy projects deliver eight times the value of projects that are owned by private companies not from the area. \nThe reality in the different Member States is however extremely diverse. DESCRIPTION:Within the framework of the Capacity Building programme\, the Green European Foundation\, together with the Green Group in the European Parliament\, developed an online educational platform\, which is currently hosting the Impact Europe module – an online course\, primarily for young\, green-minded citizens\, who want to influence the decisions made at European level and shape their own future. Throughout this course\, we analyse the past\, present and future of the EU\, the battles Greens carry continuously at European level and why they matter\, as well as ways in which you can become engaged in order to shape the future of Europe – the Europe you want to live in. \nWHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?\nBased on unique content\, this course serves as a stimulating learning environment which provides a critical understanding of the EU and the functioning of its institutions. Impact Europe addresses some of the most pressing issues in Europe: the Future of the European Union\, Trade\, Environment and Food Safety\, Migration etc. as well as giving insights into Green political movement and an opportunity to discover ways to be part of a European network of activists. DESCRIPTION:Context\nThe world we live in is going through a radical transformation which is changing the fundamental values our societies but also economies are based on. Multiple crises due to the growing inequality and environmental destruction are calling for an urgent sustainable answer. As the economic parameters that are measuring growth and economic success are changing\, we must use our knowledge and expertise to innovate the way we think about economy and cannot continue with “business as usual”. \nAbout the event\nThe Green Economy Congress\, taking place for the second time this year\, is a series of interactive\, multidimensional events designed to create and further build up on the notion of necessity for transition to sustainable and fair economy. DESCRIPTION:Context\nAt the beginning of 2018\, a publication\, The Revision of the Economy in the Balkans: Change Policy\, Not Climate\, as well as a green economy manual\, was published as part of the transnational project carried out by Green European Foundation supported by Blue Link Bulgaria\, Sunrise Macedonia and Networked Serbia. \nThe research done in the previous years has shown immense potential and pointed out the fact that these national economies are currently going in a different direction: subsidising multinational companies and mega infrastructure projects in privatizing natural resources. \nA process of political centralisation\, by taking competences from the local level and exclusion of the citizens from the economic and social decisions is evident. In this political environment\, the only possible solution is a creation of bottom-up\, self-organized\, citizens’ initiatives with a purpose of association of labor and services. SUMMARY:Climate Jobs - Towards a Zero-Carbon Economy (Bristol)
DESCRIPTION:Context\nWith the consequences of climate change being evermore perceptible through extreme weather events (both worldwide and in European countries)\, verifiable research is urgently needed to set targets and policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the amount necessary to secure a livable environment. At the same time\, policies to reduce greenhouse emissions are often attacked for threatening existing jobs. \nGEF’s transnational project “Strengthening Climate Targets\, Creating Local Climate Jobs” sets out to explore what greenhouse emissions reductions would mean in practical terms for our job markets and economies\, and whether jobs could be created in rural areas across Europe. Can both a safe and just economically sound life for all be achieved? To this end\, our project undertook research on the potential to create more climate jobs in three EU countries with diverse historic and economic prerequisites: United Kingdom\, Ireland and Hungary. \nAbout the event\nThis upcoming side event at the Autumn Conference of the Green Party of England and Wales will offer an introduction to the GEF transnational project. SUMMARY:Shaping the Energy Sector in Europe (Skopje)
DESCRIPTION:Context\nThis conference is part of the Green European Foundation Energy Democracy transnational project\, which aims to explore the potential of an energy transition for Europe and how to shape this process in a democratic\, participatory way. \nEurope has to change its energy system into a fully renewable one to transition to a sustainable economy and to establish a real climate policy. This is a major challenge for every Member State of the European Union\, but will only succeed if the states work to together. \nEuropean citizens are already playing an active role\, together with governments at different levels\, as they are organising themselves in national energy cooperatives and also the European Federation REScoop. \nStudies show that by 2050\, around 45% of all EU households could be producing their own renewable energy\, more than a third could come through renewable energy cooperatives. This constitutes a huge opportunity for regional economic development\, as locally-owned renewable energy projects deliver eight times the value of projects that are owned by private companies not from the area. The reality in the different Member States is however extremely diverse. DESCRIPTION:Background\nThe Green European Foundation (GEF) is a European level political foundation. It is linked to\, but independent of\, other European Green actors such as the European Green Party and the Green Group in the European Parliament. Modelled on many successful national green political foundations\, GEF works to encourage European citizens to participate in European political discussions and to ultimately forge a stronger\, more participative European democracy. Read more: www.gef.eu \nAbout Green Learning\nAn important element of our annual work programme is the GEF online learning platform (currently www.gef-learning.eu)\, where we make available interactive and innovative e-courses on Green topics.  In 2018\, we expanded the scope of the platform to accommodate more diverse types of courses\, organisations and audiences. \nBesides expanding the content available on the e-learning platform\, we decided to create a landing page – green learning – a website\, which tells the story behind our e-learning programme\, invites participants to sign-up (which they can do directly from the landing page) and invites other organisations to collaborate with us. \nWhat we need\nOne of the challenges we are facing is to keep the both our landing page and the e-learning environment clean\, easy to navigate and consistent. We therefore intend to introduce an additional element to our brand identity\, which will tie the landing page Green Learning (in production)\, e-learning platform and various courses together. \nWe are looking for a skilled illustrator\, who will not only deliver the main illustration available on Green Learning\, but also offer a long-term vision to help us fulfill the following objectives: \n\nto support us in elevating the brand presence\, prominence and recognition\nto support us in reinforce our image as a credible and cohesive brand\n\nTarget audience\nOur primary target groups:  \n\nEuropean citizens involved in the green parties\, youth organisations\, foundations\, etc.\nEuropean citizens not yet involved in green organisations but interested in green topics.\n\nOur secondary target groups:               \n\nEducational institutions (high schools/universities) and educators\nGreen NGOs not necessarily affiliated to the political movement\n\nDemographics\nOur learners are predominantly European and represent diverse national\, ethnic and racial groups. The courses attracted almost equal number of learners identified as female and male. Our attitude surveys show that our learners tend to be socially active and politically progressive. The age of our learners varies between 15 and 60 (with vast majority between 20 – 40). \nCreative direction\nWe welcome different creative styles as long as it’s not in conflict with the brand identity of the Green European Foundation. DESCRIPTION:Context\nThe current times in Europe are characterised by political uncertainty and instability in regard to domestic as well as foreign policies. As it is clear that we are living in times of fundamental change\, citizens all over Europe must be equipped with the tools to take a new political course and they must be empowered to face the challenges ahead. \nMany countries across the EU face similar challenges in various areas that affect citizens’ daily lives: insufficient access to affordable housing\, high unemployment rates and precarious jobs\, sexist violence and the ongoing migration and asylum policies crisis. SUMMARY:Technological Unemployment and Basic Income (Budapest)
DESCRIPTION:Context\nTechnological change causes short-term job losses\, that can ultimately lead to lasting increases in unemployment. Especially among young people in Europe\, unemployment is already extremely high and unequal distribution of common resources\, shrinking of social security and lack of access to low-skilled jobs deepens the insecurity about the future of work. To counter the erosion of the 20th century welfare state and the increasing youth precariousness\, new ideas  have to be put forward on how society’s wealth can be distributed in a just way. \nAbout the event\nIn the framework of this year’s Basic Income for all EU Citizens? transnational project\, we will host this particular workshop to have a closer look at the prospects of a Universal Basic Income to combat youth precariousness and will especially address the following questions: \n\nWhat is technological unemployment\, what are its possible consequences and how does it relate to young people?\nWhat are policy answers to technological unemployment and what kind of role could Basic Income play?\nWhat are the digital tools we can use and what is the strategy to advocate for Basic Income in a digital world?\n\nThe workshop will be hosted at the Federation of Young Europeans’ week-long training “Common Digital (R)evolution”. \nProgramme\nDuring this workshop\, young Green activists from all across Europe will learn more about technological unemployment and its relation to basic income from Lilja Tamminen\, Director Of Operations & Product Management at a computer software company\, former Deputy Member of the Helsinki City Hall and expert on technological (un)employment. \nFurthermore\, the participants of the workshop will receive practical tools during a hands-on training session to argue for basic income as a means to move towards a more just society. \n\nFor more info on the event and how to participate\, contact office@fyeg.org

The European Greens Activists Training is a training session for young green activists. SUMMARY:Moving Beyond Fragments (Komiža)
DESCRIPTION:Context   \nIn its 6th edition\, the Green Academy aims to identify the convergences and draw on positive experiences of social movements and political actors across Europe. The will is to foster transnational European exchange on ways of moving beyond the fragments\, with a particular focus on Eastern Europe and the European South\, where obstacles to enact progressive politics seem most vivid. The emergence of far-right authoritarianism and the exposure to austerity should challenge us to formulate a sharp and coherent political strategy\, homegrown to the European semi-periphery.   \nSince its establishment in 2010\, the Green Academy was designed as an intensive knowledge-building and discussion program for left\, green and other progressive political forces. So far\, almost 1000 people from civil society\, politics\, academia\, movements and media have participated in its work. The 6th edition of the Green Academy\, grounded in intersectionality and transdisciplinary approach\, encourages in-depth knowledge building\, combining academic modules with political debate and activist exchanges.   \nContinuing its focus on three education modules\, namely degrowth/sustainability\, municipalism/commons and climate change/just transition\, it will aim to break with disciplinary divisions and limitations\, using methodologies such as critical pedagogy and new formats that encourage self-organisation\, cultural expression and learning of practical political skills.   \nAbout the event \nAt the Green Academy GEF will organise a specific workshop under the title ‘’Degrowth & Glocal Sustainability’\, that will offer relevant cutting-edge knowledge to participants (from Doughnut Economics and Eco-Sufficiency to the concept of a Good life for all) through interactive formats of learning.  \nThe workshop will concentrate on different variations between growth\, technology\, work and quality of life\, but also tackling specific aspects of inequality or participation. It will help to identify points of convergences where political and social alliances can be framed and strengthened while at the same time not ignoring the potential conflicts or controversial aspects that have divisive impact\, with the ultimate goal of finding solutions for them. The focus of this workshop will be predominantly to frame the narrative about a deeper understanding of sustainability as an old concept\, through discovering of its importance of future design of future life in and of the European Union.  \n  \nThe workshop ‘Degrowth & Glocal Sustainability‘ is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Institute for Political Ecology and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Context\nIn the framework of the “Basic Income for all EU Citizens?” transnational project\, the GEF experts’ group\, comprised of Basic Income experts from Finland\, Spain\, Germany\, Switzerland\, Serbia\, and the United Kingdom\, will attend the BIEN Congress to discuss the latest developments in the studies and application of the Basic Income models across Europe. In addition to their participation in the conference\, the experts’ group will come together in a meeting organised by GEF to facilitate the development of the GEF Basic Income project. \nGEF will be present throughout the entire Congress displaying and disseminating the outcomes of various GEF projects related to the topic. \nAbout the event\nThe 2018 BIEN Congress plans to build on the growing interest in Basic Income by inviting activists\, stakeholders\, policymakers\, students and researchers to discuss the promises of Basic Income against the background of the need for a “new universalism”. The 2018 Congress is entitled “Basic Income and the New Universalism: Rethinking the Welfare State in the 21st Century”. \nBIEN 2018 features a Film Festival with a dozen productions from around the world on the topic of Basic Income. DESCRIPTION:Context\nThe training is a part of our transnational project ‘European Green Activists Training’\, which this year consists of training sessions for young Green activists from Croatia\, Finland\, Hungary\, Czech Republic and Malta. The participants will take part in national trainings about green politics\, as well as European politics and institutions. In addition\, there will be a study visit to Brussels in the beginning of March 2019\, during which participants will complement their training by experiencing the European political dimension first-hand.  \nAbout the event\nThis 3-day training in Croatia is  taking place from October 19 – 21\, 2018 at the Red Cross House in the Nature Park Medvednica\, and is organised by The Green European Foundation together with Green Window and Cooperation Development Network of Eastern Europe.  \nParticipants will engage in activities with the representatives of international organizations\, local authorities and the representatives of the European Union to learn about the possibilities of building a greener and more just society.  \nPracticalities\nThe participation fee for the training is 50€\, while the accommodation and food expenses\, along with the Brussels Study Tour expenses\, are covered by the organisers.  \nWe invite young people (from 19 to 26 years of age) living in Croatia to apply for this unique opportunity until September 30\, 2018 by filling out this form. DESCRIPTION:Context  \nThe Summer Camp ‘Fighting for Our Common Planet’ is part of Federation of Young European Greens’ annual project on commons. Commons refer to shared resources and social practices that are maintained by communities in a sustainable manner. Good management of commons offers a sustainable and accessible alternative to the current centralised and dominant role of the state and market. \nThe Summer Camp will focus on environmental commons\, particularly on how the climate can be managed in a sustainable\, inclusive and participatory way. \nAbout the event \nA central part of the programme – ‘Climate Change Summer Workshop’\, organised by the Green European Foundation – is built around Climate Change. It aims to increase awareness of the importance of combating climate change among Young Greens\, and a better understanding of climate negotiations and what actions are needed on the EU and national level to make a difference. Moreover\, young people will be trained to bring climate change into the public debate and make it a relevant subject. \nProgramme  \nFriday July 27 \n12:00-13:30 ‘Looking into the Paris Agreement’ \n​Introduction to climate negotiations – understanding how international stakeholders cooperate to mitigate temperature rises and adapt to climate change. From FYEG’s Climate Change Working group we will learn the relation between the European Union and nation states when it comes to national policies related to climate change. \n14:30-16:00 ‘Towards the climate change solutions’ ​(with a livestream) \nThree guest speakers coming from different backgrounds are invited to discuss the main challenges faced within international climate negotiations and in the elaboration of European Climate Policies (Mitigation\, adaptation\, North/South Solidarity\, Transfer of knowledge\, Loss and damage\, etc.). The panel will address questions such as: Why is COP24 in Poland important? What policies are planned in relation to combating climate change around Europe and in the EU? What changes can we expect in the upcoming elections in regards to climate change policies? Is Europe ready to mitigate the consequences of climate change? What are the next steps in the fight against climate change and what are the entry points through which young people can influence the outcome of climate negotiations? \nSpeakers: Yan Dupas​\, Political advisor in the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament (tbc); Kelsey de Porte​\, Jonge Klimaatbeweging; Luka Tomac\,​ Green Action/Friends of the Earth Croatia (tbc); Moderator: ​Zuzana Pavelkova\,​ FYEG’s co-spokesperson \nSaturday July 28 \n12:00-13:30 ‘Storytelling about Climate’ \nWith the engagement of a guest-trainer from the Green European Journal (tbc) and a famous French vlogger Vincent Verzat (Partager C’est Sympa)\, participants will be trained about efficient ways of communicating climate change to a wider audience. Emphasis of the training will be put on how to create a positive narrative on combating climate change\, and how to incentivise people about the issue. The program will be based on the principles of ​non-formal education​ and intercultural learning. We strive for an active\, inclusive and direct communication and sharing of knowledge. \nPracticalities: \nThe workshop is open to the public.
