SUMMARY:Green Summer Academy - Closer to Europe (Ośno Lubuskie)
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\nThe fifth Green Summer Academy in Poland will take place 20km from the Odra River\, a  natural border between Poland and Germany\, near the two towns on the both sides of the river: Słubice in Poland and Frankfurt / Oder in Germany. \nThe Academy is set against the new political reality following the European Parliament elections\, in which the Greens became the fourth largest force in the Parliament. At the same time\, right-wing and conservative\, authoritarian forces were highly successful in Poland and Hungary. \nIn Poland\, pro-democracy and European opposition are preparing for national parliamentary elections in October. On a global context\, we are facing crises in the form of climate change\, biodiversity extinction\, natural resource depletion\, pollution\, growing inequalities and rising nationalism. \nOn the other end of the spectrum\, we are seeing citizens mobilising across the world\, with initiatives at every level rising to meet these crises. SUMMARY:Climate Conference (Istanbul)
DESCRIPTION:Event Background\nTurkey has been seeing the tangible effects of climate change over the last few years\, with impacts on food security\, the economy\, and other broader social ramifications. \nYet there is no solution-oriented action due to resistance by policy-makers and a lack of public awareness. There is particularly a lack of clarity in the debate regarding the link between urban and local ecological deterioration and climate change\, and the effects of climate change on the local level. There is also an absence of understanding on how political decisions and action at an international level relate to the local level. \nAbout the Event\nHeld in coordination with our partner Yesil Dusunce Dernegi\, this national conference will offer a different perspective on climate change\, connecting society\, movements\, communication and green politics. It aims to build capacities and raise awareness of the effects of climate change\, local actions and green policy alternatives in the field. \nIt will bring together the agenda for the climate and ecology movements on both European and local levels\, and provide networking opportunities. \nIn particular\, the conference will focus on: \n\nOpportunities to identify and compare relationships between mitigation and adaptation policies at national and local levels\, and the obligations and potential they offer.\nDevelop awareness and comprehension of European policy proposals regarding climate change and encourage political debate that includes the Turkism perspective on the issue.\nEstablish solidarity networks between local movements directly affected by environmental disasters and those affected by ill-conceived fossil-fuel projects.\n\nProgramme\nThe working language of the conference will be Turkish. \n10.00-10: 45 | Climate Policies \nModerator: Barış Gençer Baykan / Yeditepe University – Green Thought Association \nOmer Madra / Açık Radyo\nKelsey DePorte / FYEG (European Young Greens) Climate Campaigner \n10: 45-11.00 | Break \n11: 00-11: 45 | Climate Law \nModerator: Serkan Köybaşı / Bahcesehir University – Green Thought Association \nGökşen Şahin / People’s Climate Case\nSerde Atalay / Ecology Collective Association \n11: 45-12.00 | Break \n12: 00-13: 00 | Activism / Communication/ Campaigning \nTeo Commet / FYEG Secretary General\nXR (Extenction Rebellion) International\n13: 00-14: 00 | Lunch \n14: 00-16: 00 | Forum \nXR Turkey (Extinction Rebellion / Rebellion Extinction)\nFFF Turkey (Fridays For Future Turkey)\nPFF Turkey (Parents For Future)\nLocal Movements\nClimate Activists \nParallel Sessions: \n10.00-13.00 | Informatics Education-kidsistanbul \nThis event will last for 3 hours and is suitable for children between the ages of 10-15. \nRegistration\nThis conference is free and open to all. SUMMARY:Change of Climate in the World of Jobs? (Budapest)
DESCRIPTION:Context\nWith a changing climate\, many traditional jobs will be lost all over Europe\, as a just transition to less carbon emission intensive industries and a green economy is inevitable. Innovative policy proposals will be necessary to create new jobs that do not threaten the emission reduction targets as they have been agreed in the Paris Climate Agreement from 2015. \nAbout the event\nAs part of the transnational project “Strengthening Climate Targets\, Creating Local Climate Jobs”\,  this conference will feature a first presentation of the local job creation potential in Hungary in a zero carbon society that has been estimated as part of this year’s project research. Together with the data gathered on the United Kingdom and Ireland\, this estimation will be a first step towards quantifying and publicising the EU-wide potential of greening local economies to create new climate jobs\, and better address climate change\, in the run-up to COP24. \nProgramme\n17:00 – 17:20 PRESENTATION OF THE GEF TRANSNATIONAL PROJECT AND RESEARCH RESULTS – Jonathan Essex\, Green House Think Tank United Kingdom \n17:20 – 17:40 4th INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION: REDUCE OR INCREASE EMISSIONS? – Miklós Kis\, Journalist \n17:40 – 18:00 CLIMATE CHANGE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE – Sándor Fülöp Phd\, Co-chair of Ökopolisz \n18:00 – 18:15 COFFEE BREAK \n18:15 – 19:30 Q & A\, DISCUSSION \nRegistration\nTo register for the event\, please click here. \n\nStay tuned for updates on the programme here and via our Twitter and Facebook channels.

SUMMARY:Climate Jobs - Towards a Zero-Carbon Economy (Bristol)
DESCRIPTION:Context\nWith the consequences of climate change being evermore perceptible through extreme weather events (both worldwide and in European countries)\, verifiable research is urgently needed to set targets and policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the amount necessary to secure a livable environment. At the same time\, policies to reduce greenhouse emissions are often attacked for threatening existing jobs. \nGEF’s transnational project “Strengthening Climate Targets\, Creating Local Climate Jobs” sets out to explore what greenhouse emissions reductions would mean in practical terms for our job markets and economies\, and whether jobs could be created in rural areas across Europe. Can both a safe and just economically sound life for all be achieved? To this end\, our project undertook research on the potential to create more climate jobs in three EU countries with diverse historic and economic prerequisites: United Kingdom\, Ireland and Hungary. \nAbout the event\nThis upcoming side event at the Autumn Conference of the Green Party of England and Wales will offer an introduction to the GEF transnational project. In particular\, it will present the results of modelling to estimate the net number of jobs that could be created in each local authority area of the United Kingdom\, via the transition to a zero carbon economy\, in the key sectors of energy\, transport\, waste management\, buildings and food\, farming\, and forestry. \nDuring the event\, the overall GEF project as well as the research findings and resulting policy recommendations for the United Kingdom will be presented by: \nJonathan Essex\, Green House Think Tank \nAnne Chapman\, Green House Think Tank \nChaired by: Natalie Bennett\, Board Member Green European Foundation and former Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales \n\nFor more information on this workshop and the Autumn Conference of the Green Party of England and Wales from 5 to 7 October in Bristol\, you can find the programme here. \nFor updates and other upcoming events of this GEF transnational project\, follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

SUMMARY:Fighting for Our Common Planet (Selce)
DESCRIPTION:Context \nThe Summer Camp ‘Fighting for Our Common Planet’ is part of Federation of Young European Greens’ annual project on commons. Commons refer to shared resources and social practices that are maintained by communities in a sustainable manner. Good management of commons offers a sustainable and accessible alternative to the current centralised and dominant role of the state and market. \nThe Summer Camp will focus on environmental commons\, particularly on how the climate can be managed in a sustainable\, inclusive and participatory way. \nAbout the event \nA central part of the programme – ‘Climate Change Summer Workshop’\, organised by the Green European Foundation – is built around Climate Change. It aims to increase awareness of the importance of combating climate change among Young Greens\, and a better understanding of climate negotiations and what actions are needed on the EU and national level to make a difference. Moreover\, young people will be trained to bring climate change into the public debate and make it a relevant subject. \nProgramme \nFriday July 27 \n12:00-13:30 ‘Looking into the Paris Agreement’ \nIntroduction to climate negotiations – understanding how international stakeholders cooperate to mitigate temperature rises and adapt to climate change. We will look into what the Paris Agreement brought to the table\, what were the commitments by different European countries\, and how far are we in reaching them. From FYEG’s Climate Change Working group we will learn the relation between the European Union and nation states when it comes to national policies related to climate change. \n14:30-16:00 ‘Towards the climate change solutions’ (with a livestream) \nThree guest speakers coming from different backgrounds are invited to discuss the main challenges faced within international climate negotiations and in the elaboration of European Climate Policies (Mitigation\, adaptation\, North/South Solidarity\, Transfer of knowledge\, Loss and damage\, etc.). The panel will address questions such as: Why is COP24 in Poland important? What policies are planned in relation to combating climate change around Europe and in the EU? What changes can we expect in the upcoming elections in regards to climate change policies? Is Europe ready to mitigate the consequences of climate change? What are the next steps in the fight against climate change and what are the entry points through which young people can influence the outcome of climate negotiations? \nSpeakers: Yan Dupas\, Political advisor in the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament (tbc); Kelsey de Porte\, Jonge Klimaatbeweging; Luka Tomac\, Green Action/Friends of the Earth Croatia (tbc); Moderator: Zuzana Pavelkova\, FYEG’s co-spokesperson \nSaturday July 28 \n12:00-13:30 ‘Storytelling about Climate’ \nWith the engagement of a guest-trainer from the Green European Journal (tbc) and a famous French vlogger Vincent Verzat (Partager C’est Sympa)\, participants will be trained about efficient ways of communicating climate change to a wider audience. Emphasis of the training will be put on how to create a positive narrative on combating climate change\, and how to incentivise people about the issue. The program will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. We strive for an active\, inclusive and direct communication and sharing of knowledge. \nPracticalities: \nThe workshop is open to the public. Those interested can receive information about available places at project.manager@fyeg.org. \n  \nThe event ‘Climate Change Summer Workshop’ is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of the Federation of Young European Greens and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.
