SUMMARY:Democracy and its enemies
DESCRIPTION:About the event\nThis debate will focus on the dangers that democracy in Europe is currently facing. We will explore how fake news\, hate speech\, and the discrediting of social movements\, politics and organisations harm democratic processes. \nThe debate will focus on the influence these issues have on the younger generations and how young people experience messages such as climate change denial or lost hope in the face of the climate emergency or how unbridled capitalism delegitimise governments to favour of economic growth. \nThis debate is particularly relevant now that the pandemic and war in Ukraine produce a sense of unease\, providing an opportunity for authoritarian views to become more widespread. \nProject background\nThe event is the first one in a series of three debates\, taking place in Barcelona and revolving around three pressing issues; the state of democracy\, local policies for a fair and just transition\, and Green Taxation. \nSpeakers\n\nPablo Simon\, Political Scientist\nCristina Monge\, Sociologist and Political Activist\nEudald Espluga\, Philosopher\nGwendoline Delbos-Corfield\, MEP Greens/EFA\n\nProgramme\n6.30 p.m. Introduction of the speakers start of speakers’ interventions. \n7.30 p.m. – 8 p.m. discussion with the audience \nPracticalities\nDate and Time: 24th April\, 18:30 \nLocation: Espai Assemblea of CCOO (Via Laietana\, 16 Barcelona) \nLanguage:  Catalan/Spanish and English \nRegistration: Please reserve your spot here \n  \n\nThis event organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons and the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation. The European Parliament is not responsible for the content of this event.
