In conversation with… Magid Magid

 

This year, we are introducing a new session format to the European Green Academy. In Conversation With… sessions offer a unique opportunity to connect with some of Europes leading Green and progressive actors in an intimate and informal setting. 

In these cosy gatherings, speakers will share their personal journeys, experiences, and motivations. You will get the opportunity to ask questions and gain deeper insights into the lives and work of inspiring leading actors who are at the forefront of pivotal struggles for the future of Europe.  

 Magid Magid, Founder & Director, Union of Justice

Magid Magid is a compassionate disrupter. He is a Somali-British author who came to the UK as a refugee aged five. He is the Founder & Director of Union of Justice. He was a member of the European Parliament representing Yorkshire & the Humber, Mayor of his beloved city (Sheffield), and an elected councillor representing his community. He sits on the Board of Trustees for the EU think tank ‘Friends of Europe’, the arts university ‘The University of the Underground’ and is Chair of the refugee charity ‘Safe Passage International’. Magid was named one of TIME’s 100 Rising Stars Shaping the Future of the World, One Young World Politician of the Year, European Young Leader and recently received an honorary doctorate from the University of York. Magid is also a custard connoisseur.

Moderator: Neda Noraie-Kia, Policy Advisor to Green MP, German Parliament

Neda Noraie-Kia earned her Bachelor degree in Social Sciences and her Master of Arts in International Relations and Development Policy. Until recently Neda headed the European Migration Policy Programme of the Heinrich Böll Stiftung from Thessaloniki, Greece. Between 2015 and 2020 she worked as a researcher and Head of Office for the spokesperson for migration policy of the Green Group in the German federal parliament (Bundestag). Prior to that she served as advisor to the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) with a focus on peace and conflict resolution and good governance, inter alia in a regional program in the Middle East between 2011 and 2015. Currently Neda is back to the German Parliament as policy advisor for European Migration for the Green MP and spokesperson for refugee and asylum policy.
