The Green European Foundation is looking for a graphic designer to pilot a new design for the visual identity of the European Green Academy (EGA), taking place in Brussels, 22-23 November 2024.

About GEF

The Green European Foundation (GEF) is a European-level political foundation funded by the European Parliament. GEF is affiliated to but independent from the European Green Party and Green movement in Europe. Our mission is to encourage European citizens to participate in European political discussions and in particular when it comes to envisioning what a Green Europe would look like. As a forum for cooperation at the European level, we work closely with our national member foundations and thereby aim to strengthen the Green political movement and green ideas in Europe.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a dynamic graphic designer to pilot a new visual identity for the third edition of the European Green Academy (EGA), taking place in November 2024 in Brussels.  The ideal designer will be highly creative and capable of translating abstract ideas into visual images. Specifically, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience designing visuals and developing visual identities for events.
  • Has experience working with non-profit organizations.
  • Has experience developing artwork for communication campaigns.
  • Is passionate about ecology, social movements, and political change.
  • Has experience in creating visuals for both online and physical formats.
  • Has availability to deliver initial designs in June 2024, and availability during the period leading up to delivery of the Academy (22-23 November 2024).

We welcome submissions from designers at all stages of their careers.

About EGA

EGA is an annual event organised by the Green European foundation. The academy is an important meeting place for Green-minded individuals to come together and take stock as well as shape the future of the European Green movement. It also serves as a place of inspiration, by putting forth the latest ideas and facilitating forums for discussion and exchange on crucial issues.

This November, GEF will host the third edition of EGA in Brussels, the heart of Europe. Gathering approximately 250 green actors, activists, representatives from civil society organizations, and engaged citizens from across Europe, the event aims to facilitate connections, debates, and trainings.

Objectives of EGA 2024

  1. Knowledge: Enhance understanding of the political landscape and key Green issues in Europe, promoting forward-looking ideas and debates on topics like the Green and Social Deal, Peace & Security, and Democracy.
  2. Training & Skills: Provide political education and training tailored to the needs of the emerging European Green youth.
  3. Network & Connect: Build inclusive alliances with relevant actors and underrepresented communities in politics.

Design Requirements

We seek designs that inspire reflection and imagination. Visuals should be original, lively, and evoke EGA’s key themes under the umbrella of the ‘future of Europe’:

  • Democracy
  • The Future of the Green Deal
  • Social Europe

The final design will be used across the GEF website, newsletter, social media channels and Academy venue.

As EGA is an annual event, we are seeking to pilot a new design with a view to replicating it for future editions.

Style and approach

Visuals have been a core part of the EGA’s identity since 2022.   This year, in light of European elections, we are shifting the focus of the Academy and therefore seek to pilot a new visual style and design. We are looking for a designer who can create an original visual identity that captures the energy and creativity of EGA while maintaining the professionalism of a flagship initiative for a political foundation.

What we offer

  • A one-time collaboration contract in accordance with agreed rates and deliverables.
  • Conceptual briefings to guide the development of the new visual identity for the Academy.
  • Close cooperation and guidance from GEF Communication Specialists and Academy organisers.
  • The chance for your work to appear in GEF’s largest scale European event of 2024.
