GEF Report Launch: Building Security Through Values

Join us for a timely conversation on rethinking European security through values

On 23 April, GEF will launch its new report, New Idealism for a Disrupted Europe: Building Security Through Values, bringing together policymakers and experts to discuss how values-based politics can strengthen European resilience in a shifting geopolitical landscape.

Drawing on insights from Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, the report encourages Greens and progressives to rethink traditional approaches to security—challenging established assumptions and opening space for fresh perspectives. The “new idealism” it proposes seeks to mobilise the power of values across multiple domains, from military and social resilience to diplomacy and the promotion of democracy.

The event will bring together policymakers, researchers, and practitioners for an open and forward-looking exchange on the future of European security. Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with a diverse panel of speakers from across Europe:

• Tomas Tomilinas – Member of Parliament, Democrats for Lithuania; Committee Member, European Green Party
• Gabriela Svárovská – Member of Parliament; Co-chair, Czech Greens
• Joanna Kaminska – Mediator expert, Committee on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament; Committee Member, European Green Party
• Richard Wouters – Project Lead, Wetenschappelijk Bureau GroenLinks
• Speaker from Ukraine (TBC)

The discussion will be moderated by Roderick Kefferpütz, Director of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung EU Office.

Designed as an interactive forum, the event aims to foster dialogue among Brussels-based policymakers, civil society representatives, and experts working in the fields of European security, foreign policy, and democracy.
