Europe’s position on the ongoing Palestinian genocide has become one of the most urgent and divisive political issues of our time. It exposes profound contradictions within European diplomacy, from the continued provision of aid to Israel by certain EU member states, to the muted response of institutions faced with mounting civilian deaths and international law violations repeated countlessly.
This dialogue will explore the political, civic, and moral implications of Europe’s stance, both within and beyond the EU, and reflect on its responsibilities and prospects for peace. The discussion will also address the role of boycott movements and public mobilisation, examining how citizens’ voices opposing the genocide have been heard (or silenced) across Europe, with a specific zoom into Spain and how this EU country decided to take a firm stance as compared to other member states.
Targeted at those interested in foreign policy, human rights, and European democracy, this event aims to foster a critical and forward-looking conversation on the EU’s role in global justice and peacebuilding.
The webinar format will allow participants from across Europe to join and engage in this one-hour dialogue, which seeks to identify pathways toward a more coherent, just, and principled European foreign policy.
GEF’s Green Red Dialogues, organised with the support of Fundació Nous Horitzons, provide a platform to address the defining social and ecological challenges of our time through a Southern European perspective. From the genocide in Palestine to the war in Ukraine, the far-right resurgence to feminist struggles, the Dialogues bring together diverse voices to connect the red and the green, bridging social and environmental justice concerns in Europe.
This dialogue continues that mission by focusing on Europe’s role and responsibility in the context of the Palestinian genocide, and by encouraging open dialogue that challenges silence and inaction.
