GEF together with CDN is announcing a call for Participants for the international seminar ‘Art as Shelter’. The seminar will take place between 7th – 11th April in Tirana, Albania.

We would like empower the participants with tools to broaden safe space and claim more private and political space through non-formal education and art. In particular, we would like to:

  • build understanding of patriarchy as a dominant power that operates in the society and feminism as a theory and strategy to challenge dominant power relations;
  • create an intercultural safe space for young women, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, agender and intersex people to share their private and political struggles and to explore tools to counteract them;
  • use art to empower young women, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, agender and intersex people to stand up against patriarchy and broaden the safe space by giving visibility to women* through art.

The programme will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. The project is the first phase of our annual work plan “Art for the Young, the Queer, the Feminists of Eastern Europe .

Gender Equality for Green Politics

By

While gender equality is one of the basic policies of the Greens, it continues to face weak institutional mechanisms and poor representation in social life, legislative and executive power, politics, the economy, and many other areas of daily life in the Turkish societyWith the support of the Turkish partner, GEF will organise a series of seminars as well as conference on the political and theoretical background of gender issues and the green response. The aim is to strengthen the feminist green network and provide a space for cross-European exchanges.

Art for the Young, the Queer, the Feminists of Eastern Europe

By

In two different trainings, GEF will bring together, with the support of CDNEE, young green activists from the EU countries, EU candidate countries, EU negotiating candidate countries and countries that signed association agreements with EU to explore artivism and explore its use for gender activism. With the EU integration as a step for creating a united and fair Europe, the project will provide a space for the young activists and politicians to establish connections and exchange the experiences that they have in regard to doing politics through art and work together towards anti-discrimination and equal opportunities for men and women in the Eastern European context. Both 5-day trainings will tackle feminist and queer theory and its links to Green ideology and politics, art as a tool for non-male persons to send their political message to the wider public as well as empowerment sessions for the young non-male activists and politicians. The second part of the event will concentrate on the skill development and creating the outputs. Participants will develop the public speaking, group work, compromise, moderation, motivation and collaboration skills, they will practice action creation through different mediums such as theatre, visual arts, music, poetry, installations. The objective of the project is to support young green activists and politicians to gain new knowledge, increase their own visibility and be empowered to deliver their messages.

Feminists in the Climate Movement

By

About the project

Given Finland’s leading example in women’s leadership and political participation, GEF and its Finnish partner implemented a project in 2020 to support the growth of the green feminist movement across Europe. We wanted to highlight the connections between gender and climate justice, while empowering leaders and activists to become active in their own communities and across Europe.

Building on this successful pilot with our first generation of Feminist Climate Ambassadors, we are joined this year by three new partners from the UK, Belgium, and Poland to expand our training programme and also host relevant events and materials for the general public.

Feminist Climate Ambassadors

In February, we launched a call for our new group of Feminist Climate Ambassadors–activists, social media influencers, academics, politicians, and first timers in change making who share the goal of climate action through a feminist lens. Selected participants have been taking part in a transnational training programme. This comprises a participatory online training course, and a study trip to either the COP26 in Glasgow or Ecopolis, and the European Parliament in Brussels. The course aims to build safer spaces, where feminists can learn tactics, share their experiences, and network with other activists for a sustainable future. International experts provide our participants with training on capacity-building, movement-building, and campaign strategies, empowering them to launch their own projects, outreach, and initiatives.

Webinar Series and Summer Schools

Besides the closed training course, this project also aims to highlight the gendered aspects and impacts of the climate crisis and raise awareness to a broader audience. To that end, we are organising a webinar series touching on topics like gender and economics, gender mainstreaming in EU policies, and ecofeminism. Additionally, our Climate Feminist Summer School and session at the Polish Green Days provide further opportunities for interested participants to learn, discuss, and network with a particular eye on COP26.

Round Tables and Publications

Throughout the year, we will publish outputs and materials that highlight some of the project’s key lessons, including a booklet to be released in early 2022 on ecofeminism and its meaning today. This booklet is accompanied by a series of round tables, where interested participants will have the chance to discuss its content and give feedback and input of their own.
