The Green European Foundation (GEF) is seeking an intern who will support GEF’s work, with a focus oneventorganisation. The successfulcandidate willjoin our team in Brussels in June 2024.    

About GEF 

The Green European Foundation (GEF) is a European-level Green political foundation. It is a pillar of the European green movement, together with the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament and the European Green Party. Our mission is to offer a platform and space for debates, training, research, and new forms of collaboration within and beyond the Green family to foster a more democratic, open and just Europe.  

GEF is funded by the European Parliament as a European political foundation seeking to support and enable citizens to participate, in full respect of pluralism and in an active manner, in European politics. GEF is both a Brussels-based organization and a network of national member foundations and partners. GEF also works through projects, debates and training initiatives with many other stakeholders from academia to civil society, from business to politics. About the role

This role is foreseen as a reinforcement to support the implementation of GEF’s flagship European Green Academy (EGA). The person filling the role will support the GEF Strategy Manager in ensuring professional planning and delivery of events, coordination of logistics, communication and liaison with event participants, and supporting evaluation and reporting processes. The Events Intern is Line Managed by the Strategy Manager and works alongside other members of the Green European Foundation team.

 

About the initiative

EGA is an annual academy that serves as a key meeting point for diverse green actors, activists, politicians, and civil society from across Europe to connect, debate and build capacities. With a strong focus on political education and tailored methodologies, it seeks to bea vibrant space for learning and experimentation. EGA aims to deepen understanding of salient issues in Europe and bring forward-looking ideas & debates on crucial topics, such peace and security, and the social dimension of the Green Deal. 

 

Main tasks 

  • Assisting the Strategy Manager in the planning and implementation of the European Green Academy 2024, taking place on 22-24 November (tbc) in Brussels. 
  • Coordinating logistical aspects of the Academy, including supporting the selection of, and liaison with service providers. 
  • Supporting the coordination of event registration processes and associated platforms. 
  • Liaising professionally with participants, speakers, and other relevant stakeholders. 
  • Supporting the implementation of financial and content reporting processes. 
  • Supporting the smooth running of events on the day. 
  • Reinforcing work on evaluation, impact assessment, and filing of event results. 
  • Occasionally supporting the organisation and administration of other GEF related activities and events. 

 

What we are looking for 

  • Enthusiastic candidates with a proficient written and oral command of English;
  • Available full-time for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal for another 6 months. 
  • Interest in Green issues and EU politics;
  • Technology-savvy, and good command of office software (Ms Office, project management tools, etc.);
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently;
  • Good organisational and administrative skills. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Proactive attitude and openness towards a variety of tasks. 
  • Interpersonal skills and eagerness to work in a political and intercultural environment;
  • Commitment to GEF’s mission and team values (solidarity, respect, openness, sustainability, autonomy).

 

Desirable

  • Experience of working/volunteering with/in multi-partner networks. 
  • Engagement with the green movement (either with actors from Green parties, Green political foundations, climate movements, environmental NGOs etc.).   
  • Knowledge of an additional European language is considered an asset. 
  • Participation in a previous European Green Academy or a European Green Activist Training programme. 

 

What we offer 

  • A paid internship, under a Belgian “convention d’immersion professionelle” in our Brussels office:   
  • 1365 EUR/month net 
  • Food vouchers amounting to 7EUR/worked day. 
  • Full reimbursement of public transportin Belgium. 
  • Reimbursement of phone costs. 
  • 2 EUR/day of home officeallowance. 
  • A training budget of 500 EUR/6 months. 
  • 1 day holiday/month.

What you will learn 

  • You will strengthen your event organisation skills (coordination of logistics, organisation and time management, working with diverse stakeholders) and develop a strategic approach to event management. 
  • You will strengthen your project coordination skills (including project administration and finance). 
  • You will become familiarised with new collaboration tools – SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, project management tools such as Monday.com, etc. 
  • You will attend the European Green Academy and have the opportunity to attend other GEF events, allowing you to benefit from capacity building and networking opportunities. 
  • You will strengthen your knowledge of local and European green actors. 
  • You will become familiarised with the functioning of pan-European projects.
