Online Facilitation for Green Minded Trainers

By

About the Event:

The Green European Foundation in cooperation with horizontal school, with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation, is organising the “Online Facilitation for Green Minded Trainers” on 18, 23, 25 and 28 September 2020.

Context:

Online trainings and online events have been gaining popularity in the recent years due to their relative accessibility, convenience, sustainability, and easier admission to a variety of expertise from all over the world. With teleworking becoming the new norm, many event and training organisers find themselves in the position of having to transfer their working methods online thereby shedding light on the new opportunities for digital and hybrid collaborations.

These opportunities also enable us, green organisations, to reach further, to strengthen our collaboration across countries, and to solidify our work once an event has ended. For sustainability-driven organisations, being compelled to invest in digital infrastructures has also opened up the space for less polluting, resource-consuming work.

In this context, the Green European Foundation in cooperation with horizontal school, is organising this training for facilitators and event moderators working on green topics .

Handbook on Organising European Green Activists Training Programmes

By Uncategorized

In 2015, GEF and its partner Green foundations from Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic and Finland organised for the first time a project entitled “European Green Activists Training”. In the course of the project, the five partner organisations planned and organised trainings which explored the history, functioning and institutions of the European Union in a Green context. The training programme at the national level was complemented by a common European study tour to Brussels in spring 2016.

Considering the unique character of the European Green Activists Training programme, the project coordinators have decided to develop this handbook, disseminating good practice for future editions of the training within their own foundations, as well as among other organisations interested in training programmes for young activists. This publication is aimed at all organisations involved in educational activities for Green actors, such as Green foundations, Green parties, Green youth organisations and Green study centres in European countries, who are interested in discovering practical tools and tips on organising trainings which empower young people with the ambition to change Europe for the better.

The handbook has been updated in 2018, with a new design, and now features testimonials from previous participants on their experiences. It also includes tips from course coordinators on how to keep participants engaged after the training and on developing an alumni network to exchange ideas and knowledge.

Through this instrument, we mainly address those organisations which have little or no prior experience of organising European activist trainings, but we think that more experienced organisations can also find useful tips and tricks that may inspire their future educational projects.

Fighting for Our Common Planet (Selce)

By

Context

The Summer Camp ‘Fighting for Our Common Planet’ is part of Federation of Young European Greens’ annual project on commons. Commons refer to shared resources and social practices that are maintained by communities in a sustainable manner. Good management of commons offers a sustainable and accessible alternative to the current centralised and dominant role of the state and market.

The Summer Camp will focus on environmental commons, particularly on how the climate can be managed in a sustainable, inclusive and participatory way.

About the event

A central part of the programme – ‘Climate Change Summer Workshop’, organised by the Green European Foundation – is built around Climate Change. It aims to increase awareness of the importance of combating climate change among Young Greens, and a better understanding of climate negotiations and what actions are needed on the EU and national level to make a difference. Moreover, young people will be trained to bring climate change into the public debate and make it a relevant subject.

Programme

Friday July 27

12:00-13:30 ‘Looking into the Paris Agreement’

Introduction to climate negotiations – understanding how international stakeholders cooperate to mitigate temperature rises and adapt to climate change. We will look into what the Paris Agreement brought to the table, what were the commitments by different European countries, and how far are we in reaching them. From FYEG’s Climate Change Working group we will learn the relation between the European Union and nation states when it comes to national policies related to climate change.

14:30-16:00 ‘Towards the climate change solutions’ (with a livestream)

Three guest speakers coming from different backgrounds are invited to discuss the main challenges faced within international climate negotiations and in the elaboration of European Climate Policies (Mitigation, adaptation, North/South Solidarity, Transfer of knowledge, Loss and damage, etc.). The panel will address questions such as: Why is COP24 in Poland important? What policies are planned in relation to combating climate change around Europe and in the EU? What changes can we expect in the upcoming elections in regards to climate change policies? Is Europe ready to mitigate the consequences of climate change? What are the next steps in the fight against climate change and what are the entry points through which young people can influence the outcome of climate negotiations?

SpeakersYan Dupas, Political advisor in the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament (tbc); Kelsey de Porte, Jonge Klimaatbeweging; Luka Tomac, Green Action/Friends of the Earth Croatia (tbc); Moderator: Zuzana Pavelkova, FYEG’s co-spokesperson

Saturday July 28

12:00-13:30 ‘Storytelling about Climate’

With the engagement of a guest-trainer from the Green European Journal (tbc) and a famous French vlogger Vincent Verzat (Partager C’est Sympa), participants will be trained about efficient ways of communicating climate change to a wider audience. Emphasis of the training will be put on how to create a positive narrative on combating climate change, and how to incentivise people about the issue. The program will be based on the principles of non-formal education and intercultural learning. We strive for an active, inclusive and direct communication and sharing of knowledge.

Practicalities:

The workshop is open to the public. Those interested can receive information about available places at project.manager@fyeg.org.

The event ‘Climate Change Summer Workshop’ is organised by the Green European Foundation with the support of the Federation of Young European Greens and with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation.

Education for Europe

Education for Europe – Building Capacities Towards and Beyond 2019 (Brussels)

By

Context

The Green European Foundation (GEF) invites organisations invested in strengthening the European green movement to join its annual networking and capacity building meeting on education and training. This year’s special edition is entitled “Education for Europe – building capacity towards and beyond 2019” and will take place in Brussels on June 5 to 7, 2018.

Over the past decade, GEF has built expertise in capacity building as integral part of its work programme through online courses, face-to-face trainings across Europe such as the European Green Activists Training or our Fundraising Training for projects on Migration and Asylum. In this spirit, “Education for Europe – building capacity towards and beyond 2019” will serve as a platform for political discussions on the role of training for advancing activism, as well as an opportunity to identify training and educational needs within the Green network, as well as available resources and inspiring initiatives taking place across Europe. The meeting will combine formal and non-formal training and facilitation methods.

About the event

This year’s edition is aimed at GEF’s members and partner’s foundations, as well as other NGOs, citizen movements, educational institutes, youth organisations and green parties active in the field of education, training and capacity-building.  Through this event, participants will be able to:

  • Engage in a political discussion on the role of capacity-building and trainings ahead of the upcoming European elections;
  • Create new partnerships with other actors implementing trainings on green topics across Europe;
  • Expand their knowledge on building successful online learning courses;
  • Gain knowledge and inspiration on adding a European dimension to their training programmes;
  • Transfer and gain knowledge on resources and tools that can boost educational projects;
  • Increase their impact and outreach through expanding and diversifying the green network of trainers and trainings;

European Green Activists Training 2015-2016 [VIDEO]

By Uncategorized

This video was produced in 2016 during the study trip to Brussels, which represents the final part of our European Green Activist Training project. This transnational project offers educational opportunities for young people interested in politics and activism. After a series of training in their respective countries, organised together with our national partners, this joint study trip enables the young participants to meet and exchange in Brussels with other Green-minded people from all over Europe. Furthermore, it provides them with a first-hand opportunity to gain knowledge of European politics during their visits to the European Parliament and other European institutions.

Find out what the organisers, coordinators and some of the participants from Finland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Austria, have to say about this experience and receive an impression of their study trip to Brussels in the video below.
