Vacancy: The Green European Foundation is currently looking for a full-time Project Coordinator.

The role of the Project Coordinator is to work with the Deputy Director and other members of the GEF team in conceptualising, implementing and reporting on projects in all areas of GEF’s work. Projects are organised and implemented with the support of a variety of national and European partners from GEF’s network, and often built in a transnational setting.

  • One-year contract starting in early April 2020

About GEF

The Green European Foundation (GEF) is a Brussels-based European level political foundation funded by the European Parliament and affiliated to the European Green Party and Green Group in the European Parliament. Our mission is to encourage European citizens to participate in European political discussions. As a forum for cooperation at European level, we work closely with our national member foundations and thereby aim to strengthen the Green network in Europe.

Our annual work programme focuses on three main areas:

  1. Study & Debate: we invest in research, debates and seminars on a variety of European topics, highlighting innovative Green approaches. The results are disseminated through both printed publications and online articles, raising awareness among citizens about Green solutions to the challenges Europe faces.
  2. Capacity-building: we promote political education and training and provide opportunities for building capacity amongst Green-minded stakeholders across Europe. Our aim is to enhance the ability of young activists and Green actors to work on issues with a European dimension.
  3. Networking: we act as a framework for cooperation between Green actors at the European level and encourage collaborations in a transnational manner.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • The coordination of GEF’s decentralised projects with national partners
  • The coordination of projects organised in cooperation with other national or European (green) partners
  • The implementation of other projects in line with the political priorities set by the GEF Board

For the above-mentioned projects, the project coordinator is responsible for the smooth running of all the steps and aspects of the project cycle, such as:

  • Compliance with GEF’s project implementation rules
  • Daily communications and coordination with GEF project partners
  • Following of the GEF decentralised project cycle, and requesting regular updates from partners
  • Ensuring the political relevance and quality of the projects, with advice from GEF management
  • Monitoring the implementation of the project budget and reporting to relevant GEF staff
  • Electronic and paper reporting of projects outputs (agendas of events, photos, participants lists, etc.)
  • Dissemination of project outcomes and outputs, in coordination with GEF staff responsible for communications
  • Regular contact with and coordination between the stakeholders (such as project partners, designers, printers, etc.)
  • Organisation of events and meetings

 

Qualities and experience sought

  • 2-5 years of experience in project implementation and coordination, ideally in a European/transnational setting or with a variety of stakeholders
  • Full working proficiency in English (written and oral skills); all other European language skills are an asset
  • Able to function in a political environment and adapt to changing intercultural and social conditions
  • Experience and judgment working both collaboratively and independently
  • Proactivity and sense of initiative
  • Attention to details and organisational skills
  • Good command of basic computer programmes (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with the EU institutions and procedures
  • Interest for current Green issues and debates, and commitment to GEF’s mission and team values (solidarity, respect, openness, sustainability and autonomy)
  • Availability to travel occasionally and work outside regular office hours

 

The Green European Foundation offers:

  • A full-time (38h/week) position for one year
  • A salary defined by GEF’s salary scale, taking into account the category of function and prior experience of the candidates (from 2.560 EUR gross monthly for candidates with 2 years’ experience and up to 2.884 EUR with 12 years’ experience, subject to Belgian tax and social security systems)
  • Other advantages such as flexible hours, extra holidays, teleworking possibilities, meal vouchers, training budget and full public transport reimbursement

Call for Tender: UX Design Expert – Green European Journal

The Project 

The UX design expert will be responsible for providing an analysis of the current Green European Journal website and for making recommendations to improve the user experience. The Green European Journal has identified its homepage, user journeys between articles, categorisation, and certain specific content types as areas for potential improvement. The UX design expert will have access to qualitative and quantitative data for their analysis. The recommendations should: 

  • Keep users on site and encourage them to move between articles 
  • Make the most of the range of content and formats that the Green European Journal offers 
  • Encourage users to return to the site 
  • Encourage users to sign up to the newsletter 
  • Encourage users to subscribe to or purchase the edition 
  • Offer a range of options and identify strengths and weaknesses of different approaches 

The objective is not a full redesign of the website, the UX design expert is expected to work from the current design basis and make recommendations in line with the current products and mission of the Green European Journal.  

The final deliverable for the UX design expert will be agreed by both parties at the outset of the projectThe project will take place in September 2019 and will involve multiple meetings to present the UX design analysis and move to recommendations so the service provider must be able to deliver in that period. The recommended changes will be implemented by designer and a developer by end 2019. 

Technical  Proficiencies and Expertise 

  • 3-years’ experience in UX design, previous projects with online magazines are highly valued 
  • Strong grasp of website analytics 
  • Strong grasp of creating user journeys and building information architecture 
  • Highly skilled in HTML and CSS 
  • Proficient user of Adobe CC Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator) 
  • Familiarity with WordPress 5.0 

General Skills 

  • Organised, precise and detail oriented 
  • Ability to communicate technical solutions to non-technical colleagues 
  • Working proficiency in English, with French an added plus 
  • Ability to deliver within agreed deadlines 

Who We Are 

The Green European Journal offers analysis on current affairs, political ecology and the struggle for an alternative Europe. An editorially independent publication of the Green European Foundation, the journal works to create an inclusive, multilingual and independent media space. Online, the Journal publishes analysis, debates, and interviews year-round, linked to current affairs and topics of significance for the European green movement. Its printed editions, released every year, take an in-depth look at different themes. 

The Green European Foundation (GEF) is a European level political foundation funded by the European Parliament. It is linked to, but independent of, other European Green actors such as the European Green Party and the Green Group in the European Parliament. The mission of GEF is to contribute to the development of a European public sphere and to foster greater involvement by citizens in European politics, ultimately forging a stronger, more participative democracy. The role of the Project Coordinator is to work with the Deputy Director and other members of the GEF team in conceptualising, implementing and reporting on projects in all areas of GEF’s work, with a specific focus on capacity-building, training and networking activities.  The position entails the coordination of European-wide projects with a variety of national partners from the GEF’s network, often built in a transnational setting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating GEF’s decentralised projects with national and European partner organisations
  • Implementing GEF’s capacity-building projects (such as European Green Activists Training and other seminars)
  • Coordinating the development of the GEF’s online learning programme (mygreenlearning.eu)
  • Developing and implementing other projects in line with the political priorities set by the GEF Board
  • Organising networking events for GEF members and partners

For the above-mentioned projects, the project coordinator is responsible for the smooth running of all the steps and aspects of the project cycle, such as:

  • Compliance with GEF’s project implementation rules
  • Ensuring the political relevance and quality of the projects, with advice from GEF management
  • Budget implementation monitoring and reporting
  • Electronic and paper reporting of projects outputs (agendas of events, photos, participants lists, etc.)
  • Dissemination of project outcomes, in coordination with GEF staff responsible for communications
  • Regular contact with and coordination between the stakeholders (such as project partners, designers, printers, etc.)
  • Regular reporting to the GEF management on the implementation status of projects
  • For the e-learning programme: management of the e-learning platform, update e-courses, communication with learners and progress reporting,

Qualities and experience sought

  • 2-5 years of experience in project implementation and coordination, ideally in a European/transnational setting or with a variety of stakeholders
  • Interest and experience in the development of training activities, networking and capacity-building projects.
  • Proficient in English (written and oral skills); all other European language skills are an asset
  • At ease with numbers and with online tools, such as online educational tools, websites, documents sharing platforms, etc.
  • Able to function in a political environment and adapt to changing intercultural and social conditions
  • Experience and judgment working both collaboratively and independently
  • Proactivity and sense of initiative
  • Attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Familiarity with the EU institutions and procedures
  • Interest for current Green issues and debates, and commitment to GEF’s mission
  • Availability to travel occasionally and work outside regular office hours
  • Any expertise in fundraising for non-profit organisations is an asset

The Green European Foundation offers:

  • A full-time (38h/week) position, starting with a 6 months-contract and with a long-term perspective
  • A salary in line with non-profit sector based on experience (around 2500 EUR gross monthly, subject to Belgian tax and social security systems)
  • Other advantages such as meal vouchers, eco vouchers, training budget and full public transport reimbursement
  • An open, positive and engaging working atmosphere in an international environment
