About European Green Activist Training (EGAT)

During the EGAT course, you will learn about Green values, meet politicians and experts working at the frontline of fighting for positive change, and of course connect with plenty of other like-minded young people!

The course will give you insights into the political decision-making processes on the national and European levels, develop your skills as an activist to enact societal change, and explore how Green values promote more equal and sustainable societies.

The training course will be comprised of three training sessions in Croatia, an online course on Green Learning , and then culminating with a one-week study trip to Brussels to visit the European Institutions alongside EGAT participants from other countries.

We encourage people from across Croatia and from all backgrounds to apply to take part.

Find out more about EGAT on the EGAT project page.

Handbook on Organising European Green Activists Training Programmes

By Uncategorized

In 2015, GEF and its partner Green foundations from Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic and Finland organised for the first time a project entitled “European Green Activists Training”. In the course of the project, the five partner organisations planned and organised trainings which explored the history, functioning and institutions of the European Union in a Green context. The training programme at the national level was complemented by a common European study tour to Brussels in spring 2016.

Considering the unique character of the European Green Activists Training programme, the project coordinators have decided to develop this handbook, disseminating good practice for future editions of the training within their own foundations, as well as among other organisations interested in training programmes for young activists. This publication is aimed at all organisations involved in educational activities for Green actors, such as Green foundations, Green parties, Green youth organisations and Green study centres in European countries, who are interested in discovering practical tools and tips on organising trainings which empower young people with the ambition to change Europe for the better.

The handbook has been updated in 2018, with a new design, and now features testimonials from previous participants on their experiences. It also includes tips from course coordinators on how to keep participants engaged after the training and on developing an alumni network to exchange ideas and knowledge.

Through this instrument, we mainly address those organisations which have little or no prior experience of organising European activist trainings, but we think that more experienced organisations can also find useful tips and tricks that may inspire their future educational projects.

“My Life According to me”: A New Narrative on Migration in Europe

By

Therefore, our partner foundations Fundación EQUO (Spain), Fundació Nous Horitzons (Catalonia, Spain), Green Institute (Greece) and the Green Economics Institute (United Kingdom) and FYEG will empower young migrants in different European countries to tell their own stories by organising filming workshops in the different countries. The results will be shown on the project’s platform: http://mylifeaccordingtome.eu/. A European-wide video festival will follow to award the most inspiring story among the contestants during a concluding award ceremony.

2016: Refugee and Migration Policies – The Local Level

In 2016, the project focused on the insufficiency of EU migration and asylum policies and the malfunctioning of migration management at the European level which became apparent in the course of 2015. As the challenge of accommodating and integrating refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers was primarily handled by local communities, the different events, organised with the support of the partner foundations, looked particularly at how the local context of refugees and asylum seekers’ well-being is influenced by both European and national realities.

The project aimed to enable exchange between the locals and Green activists, to identify questions that need to be addressed within the framework of the current problems, to collect answers, and to ultimately connect the local with the European level again. Collaboration with our partner foundations aspired to offer analysis within the current context of pan-EU and national debates and to produce new normative, institutional and social settings of migration policy. The 2016 project was concluded by a report that laid the groundwork for the continuation of our partners’ transboundary efforts this year.

European Green Activists Training 2015-2016 [VIDEO]

By Uncategorized

This video was produced in 2016 during the study trip to Brussels, which represents the final part of our European Green Activist Training project. This transnational project offers educational opportunities for young people interested in politics and activism. After a series of training in their respective countries, organised together with our national partners, this joint study trip enables the young participants to meet and exchange in Brussels with other Green-minded people from all over Europe. Furthermore, it provides them with a first-hand opportunity to gain knowledge of European politics during their visits to the European Parliament and other European institutions.

Find out what the organisers, coordinators and some of the participants from Finland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Austria, have to say about this experience and receive an impression of their study trip to Brussels in the video below.

The Guide to EU Funding on Migration and Asylum

By Uncategorized

In the absence of a common European response that treats migration as a human phenomenon and manages it as such, the task of welcoming and accommodating migrants and acting as their first personal contacts has mainly been taken on by local and regional authorities, non-governmental organisations and activists, who continue to play a key role in providing initial reception and access to services and fundamental rights for migrants and refugees. In this context, this guide builds on the idea that the best practices of how to welcome refugees and asylum seekers and work towards successful integration can be found in local communities and initiatives throughout Europe.

Therefore, the objective of this guide is to actively support the work of these local actors, organisations and institutions with a one-stop source of information on additional financial assistance offered by the EU. This guide provides a quick and easy overview of the relevant EU funding opportunities, with key information and practical inputs in regards to accessing them. Special attention is given to projects that foster integration, social inclusion and a better quality of life for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
