About the event

The European Green Activist Training (EGAT) is an international training program for young people (16-26 years old) culminating with a study visit to the European Parliament. The EGAT takes place between October 2021 and April 2022. During this time, participants will take part in 3 hybrid (offline+online) meetings, during which they will learn how the European Parliament works and how to implement their own social projects. Finally, they will receive microgrants and mentoring support to implement their own social projects.

Who is the EGAT for?

  • Young people between 16 and 26 years of age, both those who already have activist experience, as well as those are taking their first steps in activism,
  • Members of school climate strikes, youth city councils, youth organizations and associations or young people active in informal youth groups,
  • For people who believe in values ​​such as: respect for the natural environment and planetary boundaries, human and animal rights, democracy and openness to others, respect for people and animals, regardless of their origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or social status.
  • People who want to grow and make change to the world around them.

Good knowledge of English language is desired, but not required.

What awaits the participants of EGAT?

1.   Three hybrid meetings in various places in Poland (or online in case the pandemic situation escalates),

2.   Participation in two e-learning courses on the functioning of European Parliament.

3.   Small grants and support from mentors in the implementation of their own campaigns or local actions,

4.   Participation in a study visit to the European Parliament (might happen online, depending on the pandemic situation).

Practicalities

EGAT schedule

• 15 October- 15 November 2021 – three meetings and e-learning phase

During the meetings participants will get to know each other, establish new contacts and learn to plan actions and activities together. During e-learning, they will learn about the structure and functioning of the European Parliament and deepen their knowledge on policy issues. The offline meetings will take place on the following dates:

 

I) 15-17 October,

II) 30-31 October,

III) 12-14 November.

 

• December 2021 – February 2022 – implementation of own projects

Enriched with new knowledge, participants of EGAT will be able to start implementing their own ideas for action. In small teams (4-5 people) they will implement their small, local or online projects. They will receive the support of mentors, as well as microgrants (up to 1000 PLN) to implement their ideas. Project implementation is not a mandatory element of the program, but participants will be strongly encouraged to implement their own projects.

• April 2022 – visit to the European Parliament

Participants who complete all stages of the EGAT will take part in a visit to the European Parliament together with a hundred people from other countries, where similar trainings take place (Finland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Spain, Greece). During 3 days of the study tour they will visit the Parliament, meet MEPs and take part in joint workshops with young activists from other countries. Participation in the a study visit is not obligatory.

Participation costs

Thanks to funding from the European Parliament, participants have to bear only 10% of the cost of participation in the training, i.e. 200 PLN. The Green European Foundation and Green Zone Foundation will cover the costs of participation in three offline meetings (including travel, accommodation and meals), as well as the cost of participation in a study visit to the European Parliament (travel, accommodation and meals).

In case of a difficult financial situation, please contact us. We want everyone to be able to participate in the program, regardless of their financial situation, therefore, it is possible to cover 100% of participation cost from the solidarity fund for people in difficult financial situation.

Please fill in the recruitment form no later than September 6th, 2021, 23:59. All persons qualified to participate in the project will be informed about the recruitment results by September 20th.

The following session will be in January 2022 (a Saturday in Budapest) and finally,  a study trip to Brussels during the spring of 2022 – all for free!
Those who fill in the application form and receive a written confirmation after the application deadline are eligible.
In case of over-application, the applicants will be pre-screened, due to the number limit .We can provide a place for 20 applicants. 

Context

Participants will learn about the history, principles, and challenges of the green movement from researchers, politicians, and NGO representatives. We will examine the Green political map and the main social, economic, and political actors involved in it.
From a practical point of view, we examine what types of actions we need for ecopolitics to gain more space in the 21st century. We will heavily focus on Europe, the EU institutions, actors, history, and current affairs, which reflect the political composition of the European Parliament and the functioning and strategy of the European Commission.
The other important aspect of the training is for the participants to get to know each other and share their knowledge experiences.

European Green Activist Training – Greece

About EGAT GREECE

EGAT Greece involves a series of training meetings in the context of the transnational European Green Activist Training programme.

During EGAT Greece, 20 participants aged 16-25 will have the chance to get informed about green values and to deepen their knowledge and understanding of issues related to democracy, ecology, sustainable agriculture and food activism. They will share space with politicians, activists, scientists and specialists working in the front line trying to effect positive change, and of course, meet with their peers who share
the same preoccupation about the future and ideas of a better world. Also, through interactive activities, they will learn more about political decision-making processes at the national and European level and develop useful skills as active citizens who will promote participatory democracy and the sustainability of our societies in the future.

The programme consists of online trainings on the Green Academy platform, 2 (two) two-day training workshops in Athens and a week-long educational visit to Brussels, where, along with other young activists from other countries EGAT trainings (Finland, Croatia, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Czech Republic), participants will have a first-hand experience of European institutions.

Participation

You can submit your application by filling out this online application form.

We would like to encourage young people aged 16-25 from every part of Greece to submit an application. We would particularly like to encourage participation from young people who belong to groups with marginal political representation, such as People with Disabilities, Roma Greeks, second generation immigrants and members of the LGBTQI+ community.

Knowledge and experience of the above issues is not a prerequisite. The selectioncriteria are a positive attitude, team-work, motivation for participation, consistency andthe desire to become and stay active in public affairs. For the Brussels visit, a good levelof English (B2) is important.

European Green Activist Training Week 2021

About the Event

During the four-day event, the green-minded youth will have the chance to explore various topics such as climate justice and lobbying in Brussels by engaging with professionals, politicians, NGOs and other activists operating in and around the European Institutions, as well as with each other.  

Throughout the event, the participants will have the opportunity to discover and learn from the various other countries. Through a variety of team building and icebreaker sessions, participants will present and share information about their countries and find points of common interests and as well as differences. 

With a range of formal and non-formal training methods, including interactive workshops, the trip will be a valuable learning experience for young activists brought together by Green values and a motivation to enact change.  

 

Event Background

The European Green Activist Training project aims to Europeanise existing training programmes for Green activists in several European countries by incorporating more pan-European content and to make these programmes more cooperative by enabling young activists to meet and network.

First national Training

Catalunya- Fundacio Nous Horitzons- November 13, 14

Programme: through various presentations, participants will debate on the green way out of the health, economic and climate crisis, learn about the social protection measures in times of economic and climatic uncertainty, perspectives on climate change from feminism, and discuss green entrepreneurship.

The participants were given an additional article “UNA PROPUESTA ECOSOCIALISTA PARA EL ESCENARIO POST COVID-19”  by Joan Herrera, a jurist, former director of IDEA and current director of Environmental Action and Energy in the City Council of Prat de Llobregat. The focus of the article is in on the green way out of the sanitary, economic and climate crisis.

About European Green Activist Training (EGAT)

During the EGAT course, participants learn about Green values, meet politicians and experts working at the frontline of fighting for positive change, and of course connect with plenty of other like-minded young people!

The course gives them insights into the political decision-making processes on the national and European levels, develop skills as an activist to enact societal change, and explore how Green values promote more equal and sustainable societies.

The aim of EGAT is to familiarise trainees with the institutions of the European Union, green topics, green policies, and sustainable development policies, and through various activities and discussions with representatives of international organizations and representatives of the European Union, to explore opportunities for active and professional involvement in building a greener and more just society.

The training course will be comprised of two weekend training sessions in the Czech Republic, an online course, a preparation session for the Brussels trip and then culminating with a one-week study trip to Brussels to visit the European Institutions alongside EGAT participants from other countries.

About European Green Activist Training

Programme: learn to campaign at the EU level with a presentation from Katarzyna Urgryn, network coordinator at Climate Action Network, presentations on Ecofeminism and the Green Left.

Programme: learning to plan campaigns, exploring the theory of change through a workshop conducted by Piotr Trzaskowski, HBS Energy and Climate Coordinator, and discussing artivism with Cecylia Malik, renowned polish artivist. 

European Green Activist Training (Barcelona)

About this course

During the European Green Activist Training Barcelona course, you will learn about Green values, meet politicians and experts working at the front line of fighting for positive change, and of course connect with plenty of other like-minded young people!

The course will give you insights into the political decision-making processes on the national and European levels, develop your skills as an activist to enact social change, and explore how Green values promote more equal and sustainable societies.

More specifically, the training course consists of two intense training weekends, and additional online training. The first one will take place in May, in an online modality, and the second one will happen in November in Barcelona. In between, an online course on Green Learning will take place. The program will culminate in a one-week study trip to Brussels to visit the European Institutions alongside EGAT participants from other countries (Croatia, Poland, Finland, Hungary and Czechia).

We encourage people from across Spain, and particularly Catalonia, and from all backgrounds to apply to take part!

Practicalities

The European Green Activist Training Barcelona course is free of charge, and all travel and accommodation expenses in Spain will be covered by the Nous Horitzons Foundation.

All materials, travel (including flights) and accommodation costs in Brussels are covered by the Green European Foundation, on the assumption that the participant has successfully completed the national training sessions in Spain.

 How to Apply

Applicants must be 18-26 years old. Previous experience in Green organisations is not required.

We are looking for passionate young people with a strong motivation to learn and make a difference!

EGAT Study Trip 2020 (Brussels)

About the Event

During the four-day study trip, will have the chance to explore various topics such as climate justice and lobbying in Brussels through engaging with professionals, politicians, NGOs and other activists operating in and around the European institutions, as well as with each other.

With a range of formal and non-formal training methods, including interactive workshops, the trip will be a valuable learning experience for young activists brought together by Green values and a motivation to enact change.

Event Background

The European Green Activists Training (EGAT) consists of training sessions for young Green activists in various phases. These include the completion of the online course Impact Europe, the participation in national training sessions in their respective countries on domestic politics, as well as on European politics and institutions. The final stage is the study trip, which brings all the participants from across Europe together in Brussels.

The EGAT project aims to Europeanise existing training programmes for Green activists in several European countries by incorporating more pan-European content and to make these programmes more cooperative by enabling young activists to meet and network.

Third EGAT Training Session in Croatia (Sljeme)

About the Event

On the last European Green Activist training session of the year in Croatia, the participants will continue to learn more and engage in discussions ahead of the Brussels Study Trip, which will take place in March 2020.

The programme includes inputs from Alan Kečkeš (Policy Adviser for the Committee on Regional Development at the European Parliament),  Marko Popovic and Ivan Buljan (members of Green Window) who will talk about the European Pillar of Social  Rights and a workshop on decision making and introduction of the system of Youth Advisory Boards as a tool to engage in decision making in Croatian municipalities by Kaja Pavlinic (President of Green window).

The program will continue with exploring the topic of energy through a roleplay and a talk from Luka Gudek (CDNEE Committee) on Just transition. On the last day, a panel with representatives of green organizations (Institute for Political Ecology, DOOR, BIOM) will talk about the history of the green movement in Croatia.

EGAT Session on EU Politics and Gender (Czech Republic)

“European Accumulator” is the second meeting of a series of training sessions in the Czech Republic, part of our transnational project European Green Activists Training organized by the Green European Foundation together with the Institute of Active Citizenship.

During the weekend training, 20 participants will discover more about the topics of EU and gender equality. Guests from various levels of politics and activism will offer complementary perspectives on interconnections between the national and European affairs. In the city of Rijeka, European Capital of Culture in 2020, the EGAT participants will meet for the second time and engage with the topics of media literacy and sustainable development. In the 2-day program, they will meet with representatives from various organizations and journalists. The 20 activists will also learn more about citizens’ initiatives and the EU StratCom task force.

Second EGAT Session in Finland

This is the second meeting of a series of training sessions, part of our transnational project European Green Activists Training organized by the Green European Foundation together with the Young Greens of Finland and the Green Cultural Association Visio.

From the 22nd to the 24th November, the 25 participants will engage in an exciting programme in the city of Seinäjoki. During the three days, they will have the chance to engage with local councilors, MEPs and members of the Federation of Young European Greens. Apart from different workshops and plenary sessions, the group will also attend the Finnish Young Greens’ General Assembly and engage with other young people part of the Green movement.
