Diversity and Inclusion (DEI): A Starting Guide

By Uncategorized

Context

There is no quick fix to the dangers democratic systems are facing, but one thing is certain: building an open and inclusive society will take consolidated efforts to restore civic participation and dialogue which goes way beyond election day.

Diversity and inclusion start at the organisational level, by adopting adequate policies that helps attract and retain a diverse set of talent.

Objectives

With this short pocket-guide, you are invited to dive into the topic of diversity and inclusion, a mental framework which invites for self- and organisational- reflection. While not pursuing the ambition of an all-encompassing guide, it aims to pose the question: “Are you, your team and your organisation ready to engage in open, respectful, and inclusive dialogue with diverse groups in society?”

Fighting Conspiracy Theories on TikTok

By Uncategorized

Context

TikTok has become a primary social media platform. It has allured many young social media users (under the age of 18), at an age when conspiracy theories are more likely than ever to take hold. With a never-ending newsfeed and easy redistribution tools, the platform has become a breeding ground for fake news, conspiracy theories and theorists, for long under the radar.  But since it is now a key actor in our social media landscape, used more and more for political objectives, non-profit organisations and activists need to address this dangerous trends .

Since it is getting increasingly harder to find reliable information online where the lines between reality and fiction blur, what can we do about this, especially in a digital age when everyone has access and is exposed to conspiracy theories?

This toolkit was drafted after the implementation of the “Anti-conspiracy theories on TikTok” project in January 2022, looking at how could young European activists and non-profits use TikTok to combat existing conspiracy theories and prevent the rise of new ones. And this is a new tool, a starting point for anyone interested in learning about this platform and in debunking and combatting fake news  on social media in general.

Online Facilitation for Green Minded Trainers

By

About the Event:

The Green European Foundation in cooperation with horizontal school, with the financial support of the European Parliament to the Green European Foundation, is organising the “Online Facilitation for Green Minded Trainers” on 18, 23, 25 and 28 September 2020.

Context:

Online trainings and online events have been gaining popularity in the recent years due to their relative accessibility, convenience, sustainability, and easier admission to a variety of expertise from all over the world. With teleworking becoming the new norm, many event and training organisers find themselves in the position of having to transfer their working methods online thereby shedding light on the new opportunities for digital and hybrid collaborations.

These opportunities also enable us, green organisations, to reach further, to strengthen our collaboration across countries, and to solidify our work once an event has ended. For sustainability-driven organisations, being compelled to invest in digital infrastructures has also opened up the space for less polluting, resource-consuming work.

In this context, the Green European Foundation in cooperation with horizontal school, is organising this training for facilitators and event moderators working on green topics .

Call for Youth Tutors

By

About the Project

The Idea Challenge is a project for young people aged 18-24 from Finland, Portugal, Croatia and Czechia, particularly youth not usually engaged in active citizenship.

The project aims to encourage the target group to become active European citizens by challenging them to:

  1. Propose ideas for change in their communities.
  2. Create a bridge between the stuggles they face on a local level with the struggles of their peers in other countries.

 Job Description

The mission of the youth tutors will be to help us in disseminating the call for project ideas on a local level, to assist the foundation in selecting the successful projects, and to support these projects with one-on-one tutoring sessions on pan-European cooperation. Tutors are also expected to assist in assessing the impact of winning project ideas.

More specifically, a youth tutor will:

  • Identify online and offline locations where the Idea Challenge should be disseminated; for example, sports clubs, unemployment offices, technical & vocational schools, local parks and leisure spaces, social media groups, etc.
  • Disseminate the calls for action locally, both online and offline.
  • Work with GEF in the selection process of the winning project ideas from the applications received in their respective countries.

EGAT Study Trip (Brussels)

By

Event Background

The European Green Activists Training (EGAT) consists of training sessions for young Green activists in three phases.

The first phase is the completion of the free online course Impact Europe. Then, in the second phase, the trainees participate national training sessions in their respective countries on domestic politics, as well as a session on European politics and institutions. The final stage is the study trip, which brings all of the trainees from across Europe together in Brussels.

The EGAT project aims to Europeanise existing training programmes for Green activists in several European countries by incoporating more pan-European content and to make these programmes more cooperative by enabling young activists to meet and network.

About the Event

During the four-day study trip, participants from Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland and Malta will have the chance to engage with professionals, politicians, NGOs and other activists operating in and around the European institutions, as well as with each other.

With a range of formal and informal training methods, including interactive workshops, the trip will be a valuable learning experience for young activists brought together by Green values and a motivation to enact change.

Programme

Monday 4th March – Getting to know each other

  • Meeting the participants and familiarising them with the Green family on a European level.

Tuesday 5th March – Discover the European Union

  • European Parliament visit, with MEPs Heidi Hautala, Ernest Urtasun and Sven Giegold.

Parallel Sessions:

  • House of Europe visit
  • Parlamentarium visit
  • Career opportunities in Brussels

Wednesday 6th March – Influence the European Union

  • Different faces of lobbying: citizen, NGOs and corporations
  • Activist toolbox: debate and demonstrate

Thursday 7th March – Debate the European Union

  • Keynote speech on the Future of Europe
  • Groupwork and debates

The exact details and timings of the programme are to be confirmed, please check back later for more information.

If you would like to take part in the next generation of EGAT, there will be a call for participant applications in Autumn 2019, for national training sessions in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Finland and Hungary.
